Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My wife had just given birth to our third child. We had two boys and she said we had to have at least one girl. As soon as she was born I was in the recovery room with my wife robo dialing the Urology clinics. I scheduled my consult and the doc was a real DB. I was only 25 at the time and he started going on and on about I was too young and what if I got a divorce and wanted to re-marry and start a new family. I could of punched him. I had to fill out a crazy amount of paperwork and get my wife to sign some paper that she was OK with it and they finally agreed to do it. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It's been about 11-years since I had mine done...after my son was born. Like most have already said...it's not a big deal. The worst is thinking about it beforehand. My only question is, do you really want to have it done prior to the baby being born? I know we intentionally waited until after ours was born...just in case. |

Ummm no experience here... But why is your wife so concerned about taking care of you? If it isn't a big enough deal to interrupt your training then it shouldn't be a big enough deal for her to have to worry about taking care of you. Argument doesn't make sense to me. |

Especially if she's having a c-section, they can wrap it all up at the same time. That can't be a good idea. |

Unfortunately my wife just laughed and commented, "you'll need to get this filled at a different pharmacy... Nice try."
What a great doc! Not to mention your wife is pretty clever with that comeback! |

What a great doc! Not to mention your wife is pretty clever with that comeback! He's actually a friend of mine and a wisenheimmer just like me. The morning after I'm in the shower and my wife bursts out laughing. "What?" "Haven't you looked at yourself?" I look down and notice the Band-Aid he put on over the small incision... Hello Kitty.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Did mine before I got into Tris, but not that great a deal. I was picking up my kids and back to normal after 3-4 days. If you want to be super careful, wait 2 weeks (I think that's the Dr. suggestion) before resuming training, but you can probably swim before that (and run too). I will stay off the bike for the full ~2 weeks, but everyone is different. However, listen to your body and don't over do it. It might result in inflammation and pain (did not happen to me) Regrets? Yes, not milking it more. I should have stayed in bed "fake" moaning and complaining, and hadmeals, drinks, and chips brought to me - especially during Sunday football...

My regret is marrying someone who later went on to become a head shrink. Damn woman is specially TRAINED to know when you're not being honest and faking it. Damn! I only got about 22 hours of "subserviant wife" time before she was large and back in charge with honey-do list in hand! ... She keeps me tough.

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You shouldn't need anyone to take care of you. It's outpatient procedure for a reason. May not want to run for a couple days, but that's about it. Training set back: 1 week +/- a day or two. Plan it on a recovery week (and just take the week off instead) and you won't miss any time at all. |

Plan it on a recovery week (and just take the week off instead) and you won't miss any time at all. Great idea. I've selfishly been stressing as my build to the marathon training is going really well, and selfishly wanted to wait till after marathon. Update, I called for consult today and am being referred to a specialist. Hoping to get it done during winter break (teacher). The Bj's sound like a wonderful and practical way to "be sure". My wife's pregos, so no risk there for another 7 mo's. NO chance of the C section. Our last one was just shy of 11 lbs. and was dilivered in 1 hour from the start of contractions with no drugs (intense). The comment about waiting until born, We were "surprised" with # 3. She just had a 13 week c/u, and everythings healthy and happy. We started out claiming we would have 11, so our 2 have really chilled us out. Once finances settle, we would like to foster/adopt. Many children out there in need of a home. Thanks all for the reply's peeps. I'm still selfishly nervous, but will get through. Hoping for a speedy recovery and hope not to lose any fitness and progress towards goals post procedure. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() rwolf - 2012-12-09 9:04 PM Sorry, but I was one of 1% that did not go well. Due to internal bleeding the boys swelled up till there was nary a wrinkle in the whole works and the stiches tore. I was out of work 4 weeks and did nothing for at least another four weeks out of fear. I, like you, talked to many people and they all said no sweat so I was not concerned in the least. That being said, it was still worth it.I read somewhere the % is closer to 10%...And I too was in that group. I went back and checked my workout logs and I was off (working out) a month... I'll spare you the details but the month was long....And not a poster on this thread would have ran, swam or biked with what I had going on.... It was worth it in the end for many many reasons but I felt you needed to hear from someone who didn't have a good experience... Plan for the worst and hope for the best...Otherwise, reading how smoothly it went for so many would be cause for a rude awakening should it not go quite as well for you... Murphy's law kicked in about six months later and my wife ended up needing a partial hysterectomy.... |

Your wife won't have to do much for you at all. Just remember; Ice, ice baby. |
