Anyway, short version - I talked to him about it, he didn't really have a good explanation.  There were also inconsistencies about things he told me from the first time to this time.  So, I'm now getting the feeling that he's a game player and just trying to tell me what I want to hear, so he can get what he wants.  Not planning on going out with him again, but I am glad that I went this time, cause now I know for sure.

Closure!

Bummer ... but next time you get into this situation, order the Opus (or any other ridiculously priced but tasty wine) and then watch him squirm when he discretely checks the price.

If you know that you ware not going to go out with him again and/or made plans + did not follow through, then you might as well have fun with the rest of the evening! ... Just be sure to get up and leave when the check is being brought.

(Amazing how your perspective on dating changes the moment you have a daughter.)

I am very impressed with the way you handled that situation.  You showed how nice you are by giving him a second chance, and when he proved himself a red-flag waver, you showed you have the self confidence to say no thank you.  Very classy.

Wish I could say a whirlwind trip around the world - but unfortunately, I got an unfriendly reminder from life that it isn't always fun or kind, so I went over to the dark side temporarily.  I find it's better (for me) to just give into it and let the current take me rather than to fight it - it lets go sooner.  So I'm feeling much better now and am ready to get back to happy me.  Thanks for inquiring after me!

Sorry if this is considered a hijack!

So sorry, Tania. I had a thing like that too for about a month. I'm feeling feisty again.

Shellee...

Good for you for recognizing that this is guy is not "on the level" and not putting up with it.  As Dr. Phil says, we teach people how to treat us.  And the best thing you can do for yourself is to not allow someone to "play" you.  You deserve someone who wants to call you... and he is out there.

Tania...

I hear ya!  I've been in a funk myself for the last couple of weeks.  I'm glad you're feeling better-enough to return to us.

As:

1. A guy.

2. The father of a 23-year-old college graduate, smart, gainfully employed, attractive daughter...

My advice is: Move on. Don't look back. This guy is a jerk, unworthy of your attention.

Mark, et al ...

You are gods among men. I got 'the call' at 8pm. Apparently it couldn't happen 'face to face' because I'm sooooo intimidating. So now, I'm dating again! Seriously, all you guys who've logged on, you give us singlettes validation that decent men exist. Thank you!

Dating? No. I'm training. And be careful when you meet me at a meet!!! Grrrrrrr!!!! To the pool!

I have a three-strikes rule. Three incidents/behaviors/flake-outs = see ya. So a no-call back, a call after a MONTH....based on my handbook, this guy has one more chance to completely change his character or he is just the next topic of derision in my Girl's night out.
