Why is it necessary for Janelle to talk to her? If she truly has special dietary needs, then how hard is it for her to either a) state that in her email or b) speak with Janelle directly about it ? The fact that she posted this 'menu request' with no further explanation illustrates she's wacko.

Here's a normal person's response:

Hi Janelle, sounds like a great time, thanks for getting it together. BTW- I have ______ intolerance, so I'm going to bring a dish free of ______. Hope everyone likes it !
Thanks again, Ms. Nutjob.

In my mind, her rude and demanding email requiring certain foods doesn't warrant Janelle's further efforts of warm and fuzzy 'understanding' and 'acceptance'. Give me a break.

Cause Janelle's in charge of the Pot Luck.

This person she speaks of is loopy, but perfectly nice. I'm all for having a conversation. If not for the sake of goodwill, as Renee said, for the fact that it might provide even better COJ fodder.

I just saw her in the hall- failed to mention the potluck.  Maybe I'll catch her later so I can add some humor to this thread.  It's getting kinda dull.

Yeah- I'm coordinating the potluck.  It was funny becuase about a week ago, my boss walked by my cube and asked if I could come into his office because he needed to talk to me. I was so worried that I was in trouble spending too much time on BT.  And then he busts out with "I'd like to give you a fun project.  Could you plan a Christmas potluck for the department?"  I was soo relieved I didn't get in trouble

I'd almost rather be in trouble than have to plan a potluck.

Agreed. At least that pain only lasts for a few seconds... this will drag on for weeks.

I really coudn't tell my boss "no" so I didn't really have a choice.  I've been given crappier projects before, so a potluck isn't bad until certain people start telling me what to include on the menu

It's what we grownups do to get along, foster good employee relations, play nice with others, etc etc etc.

Hey Janelle, put me down for Wheat rolls and a six pack of Pabst and a six pack of Schlitz for variety. I'll bring some butter too for the rolls. I need to eat foods laden with wheat and barley.

k-thx!

seriously- I should pencil that in on my sign up sheet, since only 3 people have signed up at the moment.  It's soo annoying- people walk by my cube, see the list, make a comment like "so only 2 people have signed so far?"  I say "yeah", and then they walk away and don't sign up.  It could be a scene in Office Space- no lie.  Tomorrow I'm going to count how many people do that.  I had at least 3 people today do it- I wanna say run4yrlif did even though he's not invited to our potluck- lol.

I hate potlucks. I think I'm wierd that way. I can picture some of my wocorkers (spelling?) sitting over a pot with cigarette dangling from the side of their mouth or not washing their hands after they took a big crap. I especially won't touch any dish with the word "surprise" in the label. I don't want to be surprised - at all. I want to know exactly what's going in my mouth. Last thing I want to eat is some bitter-mad-at-the-world-and-all-the-men-in-it divorcee's dish that contained only gawd knows what.

~~~shiver~~~
Yeah- I always want to know who made what before I eat it.  But really- i'll throw you on my sign up list and see if anyone says anything.  I can just see it tomorrow- someone walks by, looks at the list, says "so only 4 people have signed up so far?  who's chucky finister?"  And then they walk away without signing up.  The visual is killing me!
Haha. Since you are in charge, did you get a budget? If so you should get to choose the entertainment. Hire a male stripper to jump out of a cake. You'll never be asked to coordinate again.
LOL- I'm saving that for my company Christmas party.  And...if any BT guy wants to volunteer to wear a speedo and a Santa hat, and jump out of a cake at my company party please let me know.
