  • Even though the media will play up the casualty numbers of 800+ Palestinians and only 3 Israelis so far...

Just to clarify, the number of Palestinians killed, as of this morning according to the Palestinians, is 97, civilians and terrorists.

Hey BFD can you post a pic or a link to some video? Would love to see that Iron Dome system at work. Powered by Intel - Made in Israel

By the way, not for you, but others on here. If you want to read something really scary, read the Hamas Charter. Hard to ever imagine peace with the Palestinians when they embrace the hatred of Hamas as their constitution.

Which is a shame, all people have a right to raise their families in peace. We have friends in Israel too, it's been very scary.

Great synopsis BigFuzzyDoug,

I was watching MSNBC (I know, me? MSNBC???) and I heard something I absolutely agree with and that is that Hamas never has consequences from starting a war.  They start a war, lose, then they're left in the same position as before.

Iron Dome gives me this image of an adult holding his arm on the forehead of a young kid and the kid is swinging wildly but nothing is connecting...

There's a problem with Iron Dome...  It's expensive and impractical.  It costs about $75,000 per interceptor to launch.  Out of a salvo of about 50 rockets, about 6-7 are in a position to come down on people.  It costs a half million dollars per attack to intercept and stop them.  Yes, I know... how much is a human life worth.  But the point here is that Iron Dome is not meant to be an isolated protection system that works alone.  While it intercepts the rockets, it's up to the IDF air force to quickly identify and take out the launchers and stockpiles from wheer they came.  So air strikes have to be an integrated part of it.

BTW...  The Iron Dome Facebook page has something like 8,500 Likes so far.

I see where Hillary is going (Fox News said Obama is sending her) to Tel Aviv.

My take is this is a good thing for the administration to do. Really puts their money where their mouth is.

On the other hand, there's what BFDoug said about the cost of operating the iron dome and that they'll likely take no chances with anything launched over the border. They may shoot down a few dozen birds just in case. Seems a huge distraction for Israel to now have to protect our sec state as they're trying to keep their people safe.

Hillary will surely come back with stories like when she went to Bosnia and had to run for cover as bullets were snapping around her.

I find Hamas "peace negotiations" strategy interesting...

  1. Fire rockets at Israel or at least, don't stop Islamic Jihad and other more radical fringe wings of your organization from firign rockets at Israel.
  2. Fire a LOT more rockets until you provoke an Israeli military response.
  3. As it all escalates, sacrifice 100+ Palestinian lives, a bunch of your leaders, police stations and infrastructure.
  4. Cry out for cease-fire talks.
  5. Set as a firm, no-negotiation, MUST HAPPEN FOR A CEASE-FIRE condition in those talks, that the Israeli blockade of Gaza to prevent weapons and ROCKETS from being imported into Gaza, is lifted.

So in order to lift the blockade, you shoot first and keep shooting and then say, "we'll stop shooting if you lift the blockade."  Interesting tactic...  Do bad things to get what you want by simply promising to stop doing the bad things (for now).

For anyone who has children - doesn't that sound very much like a 3-yr-old strategy?

Yeah, and it didn't work with mine. Maybe because I grew up in Israel and am familiar with these tactics....?  Laughing

Bigfuzzydoug - 2012-11-13 8:20 AM The US military says more than 85 rockets from Tijuana have hit southern San Diego since yesterday.  "In the past two days, the Zetas drug cartel in northern Mexico has dramatically escalated their attacks against the US — firing an anti-tank missile at an Army Humvee as well as launching barrages of rockets at San Diego civilians," the US Border Patrol and Military says.

This photo shows Californians running for cover as a siren wailed in the San Diego suburb of Imperial Beach, warning people of more rocket attacks coming in from the Mexican side of the border, on Saturday night.

The US has tried to reason and lobby with the Mexican government to control the Zetas, but many believe that the cartel is so deeply interwoven with the government, that there is nothing the political leadership could or would do.  They are essentially one and the same.  Some even say that the Zetas are an extreme military wing of the ruling political party itself.

Meanwhile, many of the world's nations continue to criticize the US Military for their reprisals in an attempt to stop the Zetas from their quest to indiscriminately fire rockets on US civilian populations.  The US has been labeled as "heavy-handed" and the response "disproportionate".  President Barack Obama continues to lobby world leader for some measure of support in the defense of the country.  But so far he has received mostly condemnation.  "They're launching these attacks from civilian areas," says US Head of Border Patrol, Michael Fisher.  "We've seen them firing rockets from pickup trucks parked in the playgrounds of elementary schools while school is in session.  Every time the military tries to stop them with tank or helicopter gunship fire, we're criticized as attacking civilians.  They call us the bad guy every time a picture of a civilian home is hit, but meanwhile they're launching dozens of rockets at US civilians trying to kill people indiscriminately."

Oh wait!  This isn't the Zetas and the US.  It's actually Hamas and Israel.

Clearly you don't understand the problem well enough. We came over here from Europe and stole this land from the Zeta Cartel and we have no right to defend this since we stole it in the first place. We should either leave or agree to be blown to bits, it's the only sensible solution.

Wow, what a parallel... I often thought the San Diego county area looked like the holy land. Dry, rocky, desert, with a cold, blue ocean.

Ummmm but wait didn't the Zeta cartel steal it from somebody else a while back before we came?

Mexicano comes from Mestizo as in mixed blood lines from Spanish and Aztec natives. While Mexicans are probably more European than most of the Latin American countries, the Zetas are generally made up of lower-socio economic status Mexicans that are more than likely native descendants.

It's unlikely the Aztecs took the land from anyone in part because the food options in those days were pretty minimal and there were no animals to ride on in the New World (without getting mauled by the bear or bison that they surely tried to ride at some point).

Well, you shouldn't have done that. Good this that has nothing to do with what is happening in Israel, right?

Except all the high tech is hundreds of miles to the north.
