Diamonds have 3D structure of carbon atoms, and carbon fibers have 2D mesh structure with carbon atoms lined up to fiber direction and entwine together. Just tell her that. It's all good. This whole thread is merging with my personal life - a buddy of mine just emailed me about his company's process of low temperature sulfuric alkylation for gasoline production and how it was a superior process to the hydroflouric process currently in general use - which is highly volatile and toxic under ambient conditions. We then talked about subbing in a training run with a turkey trot - WORLDS ARE COLLIDING. Oh -and I'm just a transportation geek, so no picturey goodness of the chemical reactions shown above.
