Champion 7036 Sarasota, FL | Subject: RE: I wanna move, I need to move!! I grew up and went to school in Indiana. After school, I lived in NJ, upstate NY, and NC each for a couple of years until moving here to Sarasota 19 years ago. Wouldn't leave for anything. Yeah, we have hurricanes, but we had tornados back in IN every spring, and blizzards in NY. The sharks, gators, fire ants and red tide aren't too bad this time of year either... Mark |

Elite 2768 Raleigh | Subject: RE: I wanna move, I need to move!! I think Nashville rocks!! I have lived in a few larger towns and Nashville has that big little town feel. Plus I am only 4 hours from All3sports. Have all 4 seasons (little or no snow), 7 hours drive to the beach, Titans and the Preds. |

The Original 7834 Raleigh/Durham | Subject: RE: I wanna move, I need to move!! Ok- I just talked to someone at work about an opportunity in Ithaca, NY. If I got a job there I would probably accept it because I'm ready for a change. What's wrong with me? It's too cold up there. Why am I even trying to pursue it? I think I've gone crazy! |

Master 4101 Denver | Subject: RE: I wanna move, I need to move!! You are a wise man for wanting to move out west. I haven't spent much time in WY but if you're looking for low pop density, thats the place. Don't know how much gov't work you'll be able to find there though. If you want to be near the mountains I thikn it puts you in western WY which is either small, remote towns or Jackson which is beautiful but it aint cheap. CO on the other hand - close to the mountains, lots of gov't & universities, close to civilization, tons of BT'ers here & training friendly. |

Champion 6285 Beautiful Sonoma County | Subject: RE: I wanna move, I need to move!! I can only talk about the places I've lived: Louisiana (all over) I love the Bay Area over any other place I've ever been. Louisiana is a kind of emotional "home" for me, and I love visiting there, but can't really see myself moving there unless something happens to me. Texas was nice while I lived there, but Texas and me don't see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues and unless I was in Austin, I'd feel like a sore thumb all the time. Michigan was nice, except for the 9 months of winter. Actually, I'd consider moving back, but only if the job was GREAT. Kansas -- well, no offense to anyone who loves living in Kansas, but it ain't the place for me. California: PERFECT. Except for that whole cost-of-living thing, and the fact that I'll never be able to afford a house here that's larger than a small garage. We've got ocean, forests, trails, mountains, deserts, big cities, rural areas, etc. In three hours, I can be carrying my skis into my cabin (rental). In less than an hour, I can be staring at the Pacific Ocean. Within 30 minutes of my home, there's 100s of miles of quiet back roads for safe bicycling, miles and miles of hiking/running/mountain bike trails, at least two redwood forests, San Francisco with all it's beauty and culture, and pretty much anything else you can think of in between. I know people who live in other states and love them as much. If I HAD to move anywhere outside California, I'd consider: Colorado, Oregon, Wisconsin (Madison), Georgia (Atlanta), Massachusetts (Boston). Good luck with your selection! I hope you find the perfect spot, and that all the pieces fall into place nicely! |

Expert 893 Livermore, Ca | Subject: RE: I wanna move, I need to move!! Hey, nobody is stealing my thunder. I've been looking at the usajobs website every week but no luck, yet. I think an academic job would be ideal because of flexible scheduling but that would entail atleast another two years for my degree. Janelle, it would seem you're trying to get some type of research position? I cann't think of anything else you would do with cow semen. |

I've been looking at the usajobs website every week but no luck, yet. I think an academic job would be ideal because of flexible scheduling but that would entail atleast another two years for my degree. Janelle, it would seem you're trying to get some type of research position? I cann't think of anything else you would do with cow semen. It's actually selective semen. No really- this place is located on a cow stud farm. What they do (I wouldn't be doing this part) is collect semen by changing the cows' flat tires. The semen is collecting, and submitted to the lab. The lab does a lot of fancy stuff to keep the semen alive, and injects it with dye. The dye will adhere to the sperm that contains the female chromosome (the famous X chromosome), the semen is put throught a machine, the machine separates out the male/female sperm, and the sperm containing the female chromosome is collected. It's then put into containers and cryogenically frozen for artificial insemination into bulls. The semen has about a 80% guarantee to produce female calves, which is what the diary farmers want for milking. It's some interesting genetic stuff. I would actually be applying for the position of project coordinator so I wouldn't really be dealing with the cow semen directly. Thank goodness. |

Extreme Veteran 474 Sydney | Subject: RE: I wanna move, I need to move!! Would anybody like the picture out of my office this morning (hmmmm, its actually foggy)? Or the weather forecast (hmmm, fog and rain all week- can't always be perfect!)? Or the directions to the two 50m pools I can walk to? Or the directions to my morning run route on the cliffs over the pacific? Having lived in London and NYC and spent time in Kissimmee, FL, San Francisco (only place that came close), Zurich, Paris, Barcelona, Boston (pretty nice too) and a whole bunch of other places I'm not leaving Sydney!!! If anyone wants to marry me for a passport let me know. |

Master 1938 La Crosse | Subject: RE: I wanna move, I need to move!! nbo10 - 2005-10-31 1:52 PM Work is going to be the sticky point. Right now I'm in grad school. My most likely employers are going to be Universities, National Labs, Government labs, and a small section in the private sector. I'm either going have to get lucky or just find a job where I want to live and not be concerned that it isn't related to my degree. I could go either way at this stage. Ummmm . . . two words: Research Triangle. But you already said you weren't excited by North Carolina, so I don't know. I've lived in Kansas, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Pennsylvania, Florida and Ohio. I enjoyed the skiing in Idaho, the living in Oregon, the bars in Pittsburgh, the beaches in Florida, and nothing in Kansas. I hated the heat in Florida, the xenophobia and parochialism of Idaho, the lack of visible sun in Oregon, and the lack of jobs in Pennsylvania. I don't think any one place is perfect; it's what you do in the place that makes it worthwhile. Universities . . . could you work for The University of Montana? Missoula's one of those pre-Vail or undiscovered Tahoe kind of places; it's still cheap and funky but with great mountains and natural surroundings. It's a poor man's Colorado. |
