Subject: First Triathlon

Hey everyone, I just registered here, and this triathlon (Camp Pendleton Sprint) will be my first Tri!

I've been training for a few months (I want to do the LA Tri). I have a few questions.

What should I wear during the race? I am thinking about just wearing a pair of swimming shorts (tight ones, you know). No top. Will I be ok with this? Also, do I need to lock my bike?

Also, are you guys meeting up there? I would like to meet up with some people to learn the ropes.

No need to lock the bike. You bring it there in the morning and no one gets into transition but other competitors. If anyone is up for a meet I am down as this will be my 1st tri going solo. Gf has a big test.

I'll be there Mixie. I got my stuff in the mail the other day, I'm #220. I'm unsure about activities after the race as I have a couple of things that are tentative. I hope to work them out and if nothing goes down I'll be up for breakfast!

I have some things yet to clear from my calendar but I am trying to work it out so I can get over and cheer at the race. One wildcard is gonna be my new bike; I might need to use Sunday morning to pick up the bike and get a fitting.

If all goes well, I will already have it and will just ride down to the race venue

ETA: I will be wearing a white Coyote Tri Club Running Shirt.

Tim, would definitely love to meet you once before I leave California.  New bike would be icing on the cake!

I'm in for this weekend.....dragging the in-laws with me, so should be entertaining.

They want to sleep in longer than me since I don't go off until 8:30 or so.  Anyone know if they'll have any trouble getting to the race site if they arrive on base at 7:30?

Good luck with the New Bike Tim! Hope to get to see you and meet the bike

So lunch afterwards? Is there anywhere near by? I know the base is kinda isolated. Is oceanside the closest place?

Yeah, O'Side/Carlsbad is probably the closest for a bite to eat and has plenty of good eats to choose from. But it is out of the way for everyone who does not live in San Diego.

San Clemente is a bit farther but a better choice is folks are pressed for time. (Quite a few decent places to eat there also)

mixie - 2008-08-05 4:16 PM Well...anyone else? I am open to a bit of a drive or whatever.  It will still be pretty early in the day

Oh my god, I had to go search for this, on the way back from the Oly we pulled of in San Clemente (15 minute drive) and ended up at the Sunrise Cafe on the main street, el camino real.  What better way to celebrate a tri than a huge breakfast burrito and hash browns???????

I am wondering if you are responding to my question...because no matter how much you like food, you will never be a clyde!

Does anyone know what the policy is for Spectators getting on base?

I know that the base has been closed for a while to cyclists owing to the huge training buildup they are doing out at Las Pulgas.

I was hoping to ride out to the race site and spectate but I cannot find any info on the website regarding specators. Did any of you who registered get information regarding how they intend to handle spectators on race day?

OK, looks like I won't be able to make it down to spectate for the race.

I had a commitment on Saturday and could not get anyone to cover for me. It is something that I normally like to do but hate it when stuff like this gets in the way of races. (Either racing them or Spectating)

It is for a good cause though

Hope you guys enjoy the race and lunch afterward.
