Shout out to the BT boys:::

I'm wondering how many men have left their lady friends after the first time they've seen her without makeup because she just wasn't what he thought she looked like.

I've always wondered what a lot of the inital thoughts or what the actual physical jolt was like of men the instant they finally see their women without the face paint. Gotta be some funny stories....

This is easily avoided by finding a woman who's beautiful and wears little to no makeup to begin with.  Once she's found, marry her as the money saved on war paint can be spent on tri-related items.

Better yet - find someone who embraces her femininity - with or without makeup, can kick @ss in sports, AND makes enough money herself to afford the "war paint" and tri toys.

AMEN, SISTAH!

Where's the love for the stay at home tri moms who don't like make-up? "Better" is always relative.

My post was never a criticism of stay-at-home tri moms who don't like make-up or any woman for that matter who prefers not to wear makeup. You see, it's all about choice - all of them perfectly valid. But what I do detest is the subtle message from some responses to this thread that being a girly-girl is a negative. It's a stereotype that I simply *cannot* stand. Wearing make-up makes someone high maintenance by default? Does caring about one's looks make one less of an athlete? One of the privileges of being a woman of this day and age is that we're able to wear a pinstripe suit, climbing shoes, and killer stilletos all within a 12-hour day. I love being a woman and all that implies.

Cheers,
M
(wearing my favorite shade of Chanel lipstick)

[Cad comment] I think the real surprise is not the girl without the make-up, but the girl without the bra. There were times in college when I was going to throw a flag for "false advertising", but - then again - there was this girl with her shirt off ... and, well, you know ... [/Cad comment]

In the end, guys are really predictably hopeless.

Speaking of false advertising, Huengsolo, perhaps you should have made with the Truth in Advertising yourself? Instead of going with the "I'm a nice college guy looking for a nice girl" shtick you could have just laid it out there: Got tits? See, that way, they would have known what you were looking for and you would have had fewer disappointments.

Renee -

No opportunity for false advertising, my "cadness" was well known.

Then this girl came along. I went to a date party with her just as friends ... then fast forward 12 years and I find myself in the suburbs with 3 wonderful children and a woman I love more now than the day I married her (a feat that, upon looking back, seems impossible).

Again, in the end, guys are hopeless.

if you women knew how HORRIBLE most make-up tastes, you would NOT wear nearly as much... at least not on date nights
That being said, I do like my mascara, and to date, no one has kissed me on my eyelashes...

Hollis, since I wouldn't appreciate having my face licked, the odds of my makeup being a problem is nil.

Lipstick is the price you pay for access. And there are times when they don't complain in the least when the lipstick leaves marks.

straight people don't lick faces? How odd....

DORK, even a peck or a nibble inspires the activation of my taste buds. Foundation or cover up on the neck is particularly romaticidal...

ps- there is no charge when THIS cowgirl seeks access....

well said (just beware of trying to be super woman, since that is the new cultural expectation of women - be feminine, climb mountains, and be a ceo).

when i was in college, i remember a fellow feminist saying that it was a disservice to all women and to feminism to shave your legs. i always thought this was bs. feminism to me is about having choices to do what you want to do, and not being limited by the cultural assumptions or expectations about your gender. shaving and make up are to me, the least of our concerns as women, whether we shave or not or use make up or not. equal pay, equal access, job-site childcare, maternity/paternity leaves, equal access to sports and sciences for our daughters, etc. much more important.

i'm a stay at home tri mama who doesn't wear make up (unless i've had a really hard night with the kids, then i hit the coffee and the under-eye make up!). that said, i LOVE getting glammed up once in a while. i love playing with my hair on days when i have time (and know that i won't be wearing a bike helmet!). however, it doesn't define me and more often than not i leave the house 'naked', 'cept for maybe a little lip balm.

i think the problem comes when women feel they have to look a certain way ALL the time, not for their own pleasure or self-confidence, but because of the expectations of those around them.

I don't put anything on my neck. Oops, perfume. I've tasted my own perfume by accident - it is icky. Too bad, so sad!

and hey, mascaraless butterfly kisses are nice. put it on your to-do list!

In honor of this thread, I am going to now apply liquid eyeliner (had to reapply my makeup after my treadie run at lunch). I will not be applying makeup to my lovely neck. Never have, never will.

Also, I'm having a very good hair day and I used 2 hair care products on my hair (after the shampoo and conditioner).

Autumn, I cannot stress enough how much I agree with you on all points. The fact that we have more choices now than ever is something that I dare not take for granted. We still, however, have a long way to go.

And yes, there's a lot of pressure out there - both internal and external - to be everything. This is an issue I struggle with - you know, whether or not we can truly have it all. I guess time will tell.
