Looks like I am doing Malibu... (Page 2)

It was a treat to meet you and Liz, Todd.  Wished I had spoken up before you guys need to wander off...had you pegged shortly after walking up.   

And I am ridiculously excited for my first triathlon tomorrow...

You looked great today, Rev, and will rock the race.  Pleasure to meet you at the reg table.  I saw Todd and Liz nearby, but they didn't come to our line to check in.  Hope everyone has an amazing race!

So check-in involved explaining to my mom in from Phoenix:

1.) why the pretty lady behind the table seemed so excited to see me

2.) what is this BT you speak of?

3.) then trying to explain for about 5 minutes why Gail would be volunteering and not racing the event 

Ouch, hope they're OK.

Checked in about 4:30, didn't see Gail.  But did see Macca, Kemper and Wendy Ingraham.  Oh, and the blind 65 yo triathlete that was feateured in the Kona 2007 broadcast... Charlie... something.

I'll be at the relay racks tomorrow, LA Tri cycling jersey.

Thank Mom for  the compliment!  Tell her a) most of us who were volunteering are also racing (volunteers from our club were offered slots into the race after it sold out), and b)  I'm not b/c I am busy training for my next race and had just come from a 16-mile run.  I'll be out there this morning also to cheer everyone on; tell Mom she can drop by the LATC tent while you are out on the bike.  I am a very happy person in general, but it was extra nice to see you.

Chris, missed you b/c my shift ended at 3 and I went home to shower, finally, after that run... 

Did not hear anything about the airlifting after a crash.  I did see one pro walk his bike back in gather his running shoes and gear and leave - because his handlebar package broke off and was hanging limply off the front by his cables...

But none of that matters now - I AM OFF TO TRANISITION SETUP!!!

Holy Moley  - the Big Dog is a triathlete!!!

who also happened to beat J-Lo.

Turns out, didn't park in your lot, we ended up in Zuma parking and figured since we were in the lot...  of course we were further than Morning View

Malibu is an .... interesting triathlon.  I've never seen so many people, much more than in an IM.  3K plus all the spectators.  

Have to say I didn't appreciate the paparazzi bumping into me following mcconaughey /lopez et all from the finish.   That's not what tris are about for me.  People like Cryer/Macy/Huffman have been doing this race for years and were utterly ignored.  I think they may have liked it.

My buddies Erich took 3d overall and Rick took 5th overall.    

Andy rocked his first race, looked great coming out of the water and had an amazing cheering section all in RevBigDog t-shirts -- your mom looks like she is about my age, amazing!

Todd clearly was not happy at the end, nearly nailed me in the head in the finish chute as we tried to take his timing chip.

Chris has clearly lost so much weight and was moving so fast that I didn't even see him all day (okay, I was never anywhere near the bike course, but still)...

Most of the celebs, both H'wood and Tri, were gracious, and you'd be surprised how many exhausted and sweaty athletes at the finish line say thanks and want a hug/kiss.

Funny thing. I would get a bigger kick out of seeing the pros over the actors. Just me.

I hope the guy who crashed is okay.

Vineman - Where were the no pass zones? I did the sprint relay bike and was told by someone that last year the "service road" thru the parking lot area was a no pass zone, but that was never shown on any map or announced at the pre race meeting.

Someone did go down at one of the speed bumps going out, saw the ambulance there on my way back in

Also - just curious, where was the bike turnaround for the Oly?  I know it went to Deer Creek or thereabouts, but there isn't a tunnel there.   Did they just have a u turn and they stopped traffic?

As I was leaving, people were still coming back in on the bike course along the service road, the same road that people were now trying to leave on.   Cars couldn't go very fast because people were in the right lane walking, so I saw a lot go into the other lane - into oncoming bike traffic.   That is an accident waiting to happen....

The first questions answered:

The bridge they built over the water under PCH at Busch was one  - and that was one in our race and Michael Epstein did mention it in pre-race meeting.  The other on Saturday was further north then we rode were PCH is 2 lane and they could only use the shoulder.  Vineman can field rest and correct me if I am wrong.

I am the same , i love watching the pros .  They are soooo Fast !
