It was nice to meet you (however briefly) today...hopefully I'll see you at the swim start tomorrow morning. |

Was wondering if anyone knows what happened with the crash on the bike? Seemed pretty serious, heard one biker got air lifted off the course. |

I'll be at the relay racks tomorrow, LA Tri cycling jersey. We got some great photos of Macca in transition after his relay swim...not downloaded yet or I'd post. (And a couple shots of Kemper and Reed hanging out by "their" cars in the Toyota booth.) Good time watching the Oly...the two Brits who finished 1-2 had just insane run splits. We didn't hear anything about the crash. |

Thank Mom for the compliment! Tell her a) most of us who were volunteering are also racing (volunteers from our club were offered slots into the race after it sold out), and b) I'm not b/c I am busy training for my next race and had just come from a 16-mile run. I'll be out there this morning also to cheer everyone on; tell Mom she can drop by the LATC tent while you are out on the bike. I am a very happy person in general, but it was extra nice to see you. Chris, missed you b/c my shift ended at 3 and I went home to shower, finally, after that run...

I did see one pro walk his bike back in gather his running shoes and gear and leave - because his handlebar package broke off and was hanging limply off the front by his cables...
But none of that matters now - I AM OFF TO TRANISITION SETUP!!! |

Subject: RE: Looks like I am doing Malibu...Congrats Andy! Turns out, didn't park in your lot, we ended up in Zuma parking and figured since we were in the lot... of course we were further than Morning View Malibu is an .... interesting triathlon. I've never seen so many people, much more than in an IM. 3K plus all the spectators. Have to say I didn't appreciate the paparazzi bumping into me following mcconaughey /lopez et all from the finish. That's not what tris are about for me. People like Cryer/Macy/Huffman have been doing this race for years and were utterly ignored. I think they may have liked it. My buddies Erich took 3d overall and Rick took 5th overall. |

Feel free to tell all your friends and neighbors...you know you want to. My wife smoked J-Lo (Actually, my wife also smoked her time from last year...took 13 minutes off.) My race, OTOH, sucked...nearly took my first DNF-Mechanical on the bike with broken spokes...wheel was starting to shimmy at 5 miles and I finally had to give up and stop to inspect the issue at about 12...crawled home at <15mph the last four miles. Too bad, because I smoked the run and also took over a minute off my swim from last year. Despite losing what I'd estimate as 7-8 min. nursing the bike through the ride without crashing, I managed to salvage a tiny bit of pride by beating last year's time (barely). Really humbling experience creeping along on the final flat stretch with absolutely everyone flying past... |

Subject: RE: Looks like I am doing Malibu...Andy rocked his first race, looked great coming out of the water and had an amazing cheering section all in RevBigDog t-shirts -- your mom looks like she is about my age, amazing! Todd clearly was not happy at the end, nearly nailed me in the head in the finish chute as we tried to take his timing chip. Chris has clearly lost so much weight and was moving so fast that I didn't even see him all day (okay, I was never anywhere near the bike course, but still)... Most of the celebs, both H'wood and Tri, were gracious, and you'd be surprised how many exhausted and sweaty athletes at the finish line say thanks and want a hug/kiss. See y'all out there next year! |

LOL...That was you? I had no idea who was trying to get me to do what with my chip at that point. Definitely spent after trying to make up for the broken-spoke(s) disaster on the bike with a decent run. |

Veteran 231![]() ![]() ![]() Huntington Beach | Subject: RE: Looks like I am doing Malibu...I was in the Saturday race. I was heading back on the bike when I saw the guy on the ground right after the bike crash. There were two other racers assisting him and he was down and looked bad. I didn't see an ambulance until about 10 minutes after I passed the downed cyclist and it was back almost in transition. Very surprised on the slow response time for medical assistance. On the run back to the finish I saw a heli lift off the beach and assumed it was for the same guy. Supposedly the cyclist was passing another racer on the left and the other racer turned into him. The event overall was an upset. Was at check in at 5:30AM and they only had XL shirts available which really pissed me off. The run had multiple small bootlegs to add distance which was just really lame. The bike had a 'no-pass zone' in two different spots which were not enforced. The run course was either on concrete or on asphalt that had huge cracks on it that I saw multiple ppl twist their ankles in. These things wouldn't bug me as much if it wasn't the most expensive oly registration fee I've ever seen. |

Subject: RE: Looks like I am doing Malibu...Vineman - Where were the no pass zones? I did the sprint relay bike and was told by someone that last year the "service road" thru the parking lot area was a no pass zone, but that was never shown on any map or announced at the pre race meeting. Someone did go down at one of the speed bumps going out, saw the ambulance there on my way back in Also - just curious, where was the bike turnaround for the Oly? I know it went to Deer Creek or thereabouts, but there isn't a tunnel there. Did they just have a u turn and they stopped traffic? As I was leaving, people were still coming back in on the bike course along the service road, the same road that people were now trying to leave on. Cars couldn't go very fast because people were in the right lane walking, so I saw a lot go into the other lane - into oncoming bike traffic. That is an accident waiting to happen.... |

Expert 724![]() ![]() ![]() Simi Valley | Subject: RE: Looks like I am doing Malibu...The first questions answered: The bridge they built over the water under PCH at Busch was one - and that was one in our race and Michael Epstein did mention it in pre-race meeting. The other on Saturday was further north then we rode were PCH is 2 lane and they could only use the shoulder. Vineman can field rest and correct me if I am wrong. |

No pass zone near bridge and at oly turnaround. The turnaround was just on PCH and they were stopping traffic. There was TONS of accidents waiting to happen on this course both on bike and run. IMO a complete joke for the fee to race. |
