Grapefruit before a run.  Citrus + jumping up and down = throwing up just a little in one's mouth.

I did happy hour sushi (all you can eat pretty much) and chardonnay before a 1-mile race - which I did actually run hard.  NOT GOOD.

csibona - 2009-07-17 9:30 AM I've had trouble with cheesy meals a couple of times. I will not eat anything with cheese and limit my dairy the day before a race or a long run. Apparently I've had more trouble with food on runs more than the other two disciplines.

X2 on the cheese...

I definitely stay away from cheese (and I love cheese). super gassy

mrwrite - 2009-07-17 1:11 PM The hot dogs I ate for lunch the other day kept trying to come out the wrong way at my bike workout that night. I should've just let 'em exit.

The guys swim team used to love chili and hot dogs day at lunch.  Swim practice that night was not a pretty sight.  I don't recommend it (your workout partners will also thank you).

I eat weird stuff sometimes mostly because I never have food in my house and I've recently done a few workouts where I've learned the hard way what not to eat.

pad thai and then biking- not a good idea
Milk based smoothie then running- really not a good idea
Blueberries, brie cheese and chip and salsa then running- sorry to whoever's door step I barf on.

Yup, I've done this more than once.

anything dairy.  (i'm just a little bit of a lactard, but not enough to require lactaid regularly -- just not a good idea before a workout.)

Anything Chinese.

I second that.

A few days before IM China my Coach and I had a meal in Shanghai and we both got pretty sick. Luckily I had brought some prescription medicine that I had brought incase 'food poisoning' should occur, and after a few days we were back to normal. But it wasn't a fun experience and I would say to stay away from Chinese unless you want to practice working out when you feel extremely ill.

Vindaloo or madras curries, especially when it has a lot of cauliflower.  Unless, of course, you like tasting last night's food for the entirety of a 3 hour ride.

Silver_wlf - 2009-07-17 10:39 AM Burger King.  The night before a long run - with a Raisin Bran breakfast.  Just a bad idea all together...

Oh my....I had to stop reading and run to the bathroom just reading that!!  Whew!

For me, it was Rocky Rococo's Pepperoni Pizza the night before a long run = Many, many visits to gas station bathrooms (while running with a brand new running partner) and then one jaunt into the woods.  Had to sacrifice a glove too

Coffee.  I've learned the hard way on three occasions that I can think of off hand, that coffee does not agree with my stomach.  I didn't figure out the coffee was the culprit until after the second bad experience,  and I have no idea what the F I was thinking on the third.  I had a Venti latte from Starbucks about three hours before a planned 8 mile run, and I'll just say I have never been so relieved to find a port-a-potty in my life as I was on Mile 5 of my run that day.
