Hmmm....

I've seen a few people mentioning the Baconator.

It really is, quite possibly, the best cheeseburger ever created.

Carry on.

So...I just had to find out what this baconator was and for anyone else curious, here are the specs:

http://www.wendys.com/food/Nutrition.jsp

sounds like a good after race reward...you can replace all that sodium in a single burger!

I am embarrassed to say that I drink three pints of draft beer every day, eat ice cream every day, fast food several times per week, high fat foods like hot link sausage, baby back ribs, fettuccini alfredo, lots of mike, cake, pie, (all deserts with homemade whipped cream or crème fresh) and pretty much anything else that looks good.  I much prefer fresh food over process food (dinner meals only).  Anyway, my average calorie intake is right about 6,000 per day.  I am 5’10.5” and weigh 168 lbs (+- 1lbs).  Play request ball one time per week for 2 hours and have recently started training for triathlons.  Not huge distances or super fast speed, but very regular exercise.

Clearly, it is not the most healthy way to live but is sure is fun.  When my metabolism slows down, I will have to modify my behavior.

I hate you.

I'm 5'9, 180 lbs, 13-15% body fat and struggling to drop another 5-10.  My diet is 95% whole grains, fresh fruit, steamed or fresh veggies, and grilled or baked meat.  If I so much as look at a piece of birthday cake or, God forbid, a Baconator, it's like I had reverse-liposuction.

reminds me of a sandwich I had in Charleston, SC after the festivelo century ride...little joint in town had a BLT. Toasted bread soaked in butter, two tomato slices, mayo, lettuce and 12 (yes TWELVE) pieces of bacon...had to be at least as calorie heavy as the baconator....

But imagine how much better you will sleep train and live with the right fuel!

And you know what? It's actually possible to love the good fuel too. This doesn't mean you switch to salads only from tomorrow, but if you spend the time to find the foods that fuel you best and you love to eat then it's every bit as good as a runners high.

Will a heart attack be enough to modify your behaviour, or will it take death? Both those things tend to alter metabolism quite a bit.

Why not modify it now by choice and be around for longer to enjoy it?

Ok, Dr Doom and Gloom signing off

I think most of us who have been working out/racing a while have a pretty good idea of what eating healthy is... Some people at my work think it means eating only one large pepperoni pizza instead of 2 :-)

I try to eat healthy most of the time, not because the "bad foods" are high in fat and calories, but because they have much less nutritional value (vitamins, etc). But sometimes, when I've had a few days of intense workouts, I find I really need a really fatty, super high cal meal. Nothing else will cut it.

I figure, when you are training a lot, and not trying to lose weight, eat what you crave... You're body will tell you what you want.

I hate you.

That was me until I hit about 27/28 years old. Now I have to be careful, the clock is a couple ticks slower these days.

Now it feels like you are just tauntingWink  , I have to ask if you have been to a doctor and had your BP checked?  Does the doctor tell that you need to change your eating habits?   Just curious and probably none of my business.

FWIW, I increased my consumption of processed junk food and did notice a drop in my performance. .. Nothing too surprising about that I guess.

I dropped that and recently have been adding hefty daily ice cream portions, maintaining my other habits and my energy is up and my weight is a little lower.... .  So my body doesn't like processed stuff, but does better with a bit more calories.  I know I should look for "healthy" calories, but I cannot imagine consuming either more pb or another clif bar... I'd start having nightmares.

I think it is easy to forget what a average american diet looks like when you train hard and are around healthy folks.  What we(BTers) would consider indulgent "hefty ice cream portions" is what many would consider a daily nutritional requirement for an inactive person.

 All in moderation...

Thanks to all for taking an interest in this topic.

Agreed. I don't keep junk in the house, but if I REALLY want it, I will get it. But if I am not eating a balanced, healthy diet, I can really feel it. ie, I know when I need more protein, or when I need to eat a big old salad, etc. After a race, a burger and fries tastes awesome and is exactly what I want. And that's fine. But if I ate a burger and fries every single day, I'd feel like crap.

Who else is sick of chicken breast subs with extra spinach and no cheese or mayo from Subway 3 days a week?

I'd rather be on the Homer diet:

But then, I guess then you get body-by-Homer too:

I use coca-cola as a carrot....especially after a long hot run...when I have 2 miles left I start tellin myself how good and cold and sweet it will be. And it always is!

If you cannot enjoy life, what's the point??

I love all three things and will do as Dan says .... everything in moderation (unless I feel like getting ripped and stuffed watching a ball game).

Definatley necessary every so often.

smoke - 2008-09-26 9:17 AM So far the season when I watch my beloved browns play i tend to slide towards MUCH more beer and less pizza/wings

Glad they gave Derek Anderson the contract yet? When does the Brady Quinn era start?
