Expert 1274 Houston, TX | Subject: RE: We talk about men shaving their legs, what about men... I have both ears stretched currently at a 2 gauge but have had them a little bigger (00 gauge) in the past. Have had them stretched for about 5 years or so now and I am 30 for reference. Mine are not stretched big, about the size of a pencil eraser, and typically close to where you can barely see through them after being out for a few hours. It obviously doesn't bother me if others have ears pierced. I have had 1 boss in the past who didn't like them and I took them out while she was my boss and after she got fired, they went back in. Other than her, no one else at work has ever complained about them. I am a trauma nurse so my "clients" just care that I do my job and do it well. |

Sous - 2012-10-18 2:02 PM tuwood - 2012-10-18 12:11 PM I think as a society it's very common for guys to have ears pierced and it's not abnormal to see a business executive or judge with a pierced ear. I have no problem with it, and had my one left ear pierced for about 3 or 4 years when I was in my early 20s. The quoted comment, however, I disagree with. It is fairly common in society, but its a stretch to say that it is normal to see executives or judges with a pierced ear. only your one left ear? why wouldn't you pierce both left ears? |

Pro 3932 Irvine, California | Subject: RE: We talk about men shaving their legs, what about men... I pierced my left ear in high-school some 30+ years ago. It was the cool, rebellious thing to do at the time. Over the years, I've gone from wearing an earring often to not at all. Just a couple weeks ago I thought to myself, "why not be symmetrical and pierce your right ear too?" So I did. But I had second thoughts the next day, so I chickened out and removed it. Personally, I just like how it looks, and have no interest in making some kind of social statement by wearing them. But I realize some people will draw conclusions about guys with earrings, and I just didn't want to deal with that right at the moment. I may very well decide to do it again down the road. |

Member 5452 NC | Subject: RE: We talk about men shaving their legs, what about men... I got mine pierced senior year in high school or so. We were on a cross-country church mission trip and I got it pierced in Oklahoma. I figured that would be enough miles between me and my father that he wouldn't drive out there and kill me. I split the piercing with this girl who was getting her second in the same ear. Her dad and my dad were friends, so they drank a beer together and commiserated about their idiot children. I got over it about a year later.

It's NOT a religious thing....it's a respect for my body thing....it takes really good care of me, so I don't stick holes in it. Just to be clear...I don't care at all what others do to their bodies or even why. I'm good with what I've got....don't feel the need to "accessorize". That's a pretty broad way to describe it. Is shaving "artificially altering"? After all, you take a razor to your face and remove nature's face warmer. How about cutting your hair or nails? I think all these things (shaving/piercing/tattooing) are all just ways of deciding what you think looks good on your body. That becomes obviously in part a matter of personal taste as well as of the times. I think (as has been expressed elsewhere) that a single piercing in a guy is about as timely as a mullet. Or flannel shirts as a fashion statement. |

My mom's ok with it, so we're all ok with it. Go figure. I'm only 37, and I shave my head, and when the mood strikes me, I put in my earring in my left ear. Sometimes, I'll grow a goatee. At one point I had 2 piercings in my left ear.Truth is, I'm in the navy, so I spend Kostunica of my time with my earring out and clean shaven face. When I'm retired in just over 1 year, I'll definitely grow a goatee, wear my earring whenever I wish, and shave my head. |

I thought it was ok for that but not good for any cartilage piercings? an inquiring mind wants to know Guns aren't sterile, for one. Most guns have some plastic in their assemblies, meaning they cannot be autoclaved. And when that happens...you've got itsybitsy contaminants form the last person in the chair all over it. Guns are basically blunt force trauma-a needle is much easier on your ear. The needles are hollow, one-time use, sterile, and hurt less. Also, you get better jewelry and jewelry more suited to your lobe type with a professional piercer and a needle. Plus, a professional piercer is much better at giving you aftercare instructions--the stuff you get at Claire's is bad for your piercing and can slow healing. I've got 14 piercings, some from guns, some not--and I will never recommend a gun (or a mall-type store) to anyone. Edited by mmrocker13 2012-10-19 4:01 PM |
