Subject: RE: Houston Triathlon - Olympic Course : Official ThreadKeri, The course maps are pretty much set. Although being last minute as it all is they are still subject to change. I have posted the swim and the bike. They are crude based on the maps you've come to expect from us but I'm working on getting the beautiful stand up map boards done we usually have for you guys. It's in the works. The maps that are up are the placeholders. I have the swim and bike on the site now, the run maps will have to be tomorrow. Run's pretty much the same as last year if you remember. The swim is two loops (ITU Style) again for the oly. 1 loop for the sprint. This year (as of now) we're doing the swim North and South to avoid the sun being in your eyes like last year. Other than that it's the same. Transition is still in the Lone Star parking lot so we're talking about a 1/4 mile run back to your bike so bring some junk shoes to put by swim exit to run back in. Maybe next year transition will move to the field. Too dry this year, the dirt is sinking and really dusty. The bike is a all right turn loop that's 1/3 on closed roads. At the top of the course Tuckerton will be an out and back 2 U-turn area but it's about 2 miles on each section (6 miles total) so it gives you an opportunity to really hammer between those U-turns. That's where we get the extra miles in. Having an out and back section in your bike is essential to be sure your distances are correct. Besides that out and back section it's a true loop and bikers will be in the right lane and also have the shoulder. Right now there's about a 1/4 mile section through the neighborhoods to connect back to Barker Cypress. They are pouring Tuckerton right now all the way through. Fingers crossed it's done before the race and that will eliminate about 4 turns going through the neighborhoods, and a BUNCH of headaches for us on the planning side of it. Plus it will make it easier on you guys just being able to go straight all the way down Tuckerton to Barker Cypress to finish your sprint loop or start your second oly loop. More to come... Thanks! Oh remember the site is either www.Onurmark.net or www.HoustonTri.com. |
