Throw in the temps and I can see this race being a bit of a beat down. As I mentioned before, I have done that race twice, 2008 and 2010, the hardest race I have done after Branson. This year I am no show as I have not trained for it, will not even poke my head there as if you are not ready for it, it can be a suffer fest. Luckily, it is short. OK Aleks, I'll buy the "not trained for it" routine but you and I both know you could podium the sprint if you showed up. Thanks for giving ME a shot though, LOL I know you are going to do well regardless who shows up. I am after that long course race. I like battling Schloegels, Wilsons and alike. It is fun even though I mostly loose. So long course is what I like there. I have not been nearly as good in the last two years as I was 2008-2009. In 2008, I missed overall podium by a little, good swim, fast bike and not so hot run.....typical . I trained a fraction what I train now, but it was all short and fast work. I have lost that balance and drifted away 2010/2011 with some sporadic results and one huge plateau, couple of over training episodes that really set me back. I failed to recognize that more is not always more. I will be at Racine on 07/15 for 70.3 race than Vegas and finally Redman/ LC Nationals. Half Ironman is my distance, my old body likes that moderate speed, going fast hurts, I leave that now to young studs. I wish you all a great race, I will be reading this thread, always willing to share what I know about that course and type training required to do it really well. |
