As a team just let me know if I can count my elliptical miles or not. Either way is no big deal. It's just that I work 24 hour shifts every third day and I would rather spend time on the elliptical than the dreadmill. Let me know what the consensus is and I will update our chart as needed.

YES, you can count them.

The challenge rules are that you can count them, since you asked up front. I said yes. Therefore you calculated your goal WITH elliptical miles.

That said, if you choose to revise how you set your goal, I'm ok with that, too.

This issue comes up every month, btw. For example: If someone does swimming, do kickboard drills count? My answer is this --> If you calculate your goal WITH kickboard drills included, then they count. If you calculate it withOUT them, then they don't.

BTW, some people define running as RUNNING ONLY. (No walking.) Others define it as running, walking AND jogging. So while they are all on "run teams," there is variation in how people are achieving their goals.

In fact, there are several people on "run teams" who are ONLY doing elliptical time/miles, and are not running at all. They stated that up front, and used that information to formulate their goals.

Thanks for letting me use the elliptical miles. I may have to increase my goal for the month. Hope that isn't too much of a hassle.

Not at all. You can increase your goal anytime during the month. Just let your team captain know, and then go into the spreadsheet and up it.

(Decreases are a no-no though.)

As I said - a lot of people are doing elliptical miles/times. So you're definitely not "alone." LOL

Oh, I should add that it's up to the challenge organizer(s) to set the rules. Since I'm running this challenge, that's how I've defined them. During another month, someone else may define it differently. That's why it's good to ask up front - as you did - as to what's considered "acceptable."

Hey all -
Guess I was named team captain. So, I guess I'm going to have get on your butts to get out there and run and update the spreadsheet.

Now, what's the story about "LEMings"?

I'm trying to be consistent this year and run 100 mi each of the 12 months. January was 100.5, so I cut that one close. I've been fighting off some injuries issues so I've been struggling with my long runs. I'm hoping this challenge will help me keep my focus.

Walt (0 miles so far for the month...ooops)

LEMmings was the January Team. "Loving Every Mile aka L.E.M."

They did very well, so there have been suggestions of returning to LEM for this month's team name. For example, someone suggested ""LEMmings - the reRUN."

I kind of like this one:
"LEMmings - the reRUN. Over the cliff again."

Then again, I'm not even on your team, so I don't get a vote. LOL

Hm, and since I'm not on your team.... How about: "LEMons" ???

(That ought to get you guys all stirred up. LOL)

I am planning on counting elliptical milessince that is what I do to keep in shape for running during the winter - I will still run as well and try to meet my 100 miles goal for the run without the ellpitical.  So I will only count them if I need them - make sense?

Team name --- we need one. L.E.M.ings the rerun is my vote.

Well, yes. LEMons would be good with Flying Fish. Or with Talking Tilapias.

But this month, the swimming team is calling themselves "Swimming Rocks." So I don't know that LEMons would improve their flavor a whole lot. LOL

OK, so your 100 mile run goal may incorporate elliptical work. That's fine!

I like having this kind of flexibility in the challenges. For example, one month, someone was running but developed PF. If we'd had a "run only" rule, she would have had to withdraw from the challenge. But she was OK on the elliptical, so she was able to STAY in the challenge, and reach her goal. (Much better than withdrawing, and heading off to the couch with a bag of potato chips! LOL)

I've added a "Track your progress" box to all of the spreadsheets! You do NOT need to do anything. It will update automatically. (In other words, do not update it!)

It takes "today's date" from the computer, and calculates the percentage of the month that has passed so far. This will help you see if you're on track towards hitting your goal.

For example, today is Feb 3rd. So the month is 10% completed. All of this shows up in the "peach colored box" on your team spreadsheet.

But we still have to enter our miles right? And by Sunday night?

I use the elliptical to prevent injury - I am also a fitness instructor and last week for example - I taught so many strength classes that I could not run because my hamstring was so sore so I used the ellipitcal.

From the Challenge Announcement:

For reporting, the weeks will run as follows:
Feb 1 - 9
Feb 10 - 16
Feb 17 - 23
Feb 24 - 29
Please note: The week will end on Saturday. This will allow me to compile the results on Sunday.

Thanks!

The "Track your progress" box is just so people know where they stand - in comparison to how much of the month is over.

For example, if the month is 10% over:
- if you're at 12%, you're ahead.
- if you're at 7%, you're falling behind.

I saw that some of the teams last month were adding this info to their spreadsheets. So I went ahead and added it to all of them, so people could see more easily where they stand.

And yes, you still need to enter your miles/hours. Some things, I just haven't found a way to automate. LOL

Welcome to the Lemmings. We don't have any fat people on this team.... only Athenas and Clysdales There are at least a couple of us getting ready for spring marathons, so I think you're on the right team. Last month, we were the hard core running team.
