I spent my 20's destroying my body playing rugby. At 27 I injured my back and was no longer able to play so I started bikeing. If anyone has ever trained for just cycling you know this can be teadious and boring... The natural evolution was to do something new and I had a friend who told me about triathlon. Now here I am 19 days befor my 30th birthday! 8-)

When I was growing up - soccer wasn't anywhere in US now ALL the kids- male & femal have the opp to play- ....

My stomach didn't hang over my jeans when I was in my 20's.

Checked out the demographics of our local TRI and it appears:

35% Female Avg age 35

65% Male Avg age 38

Hmm... Raises more questions. What was it 5 years ago and what is the trend?

okay, so hard question to answer....SUMMARIZED VERSION = due to clumsiness and my wisconsin injuries.

early twenties ditto as most: it was college and discovering how a REAL social life should be lead, took a hiatus from training. then tried training for a marathon junior year- ended up with tendonitis... took another hiatus and became an on-again/ off-again working out person. FINALLY, at the age of 24 I discovered triathlons while rehabbing a skiing injury. Was into it for about 2 years, ended up with a MTB back/neck injury... and three years later at 29 am FINALLY getting back into triathlons again.

I love the age gap...I actually placed 1st in a recent run because the only other person in my age group was my buddy!

I'm 24 (wow...almost middle 20s!), been moving around for 2 years and don't always get a chance to join sports leagues. So I took up cycling seriously as a way to learn about the places I moved to and get exercise. Also...I became a big fan of MS 150 rides. I grew up running, so all I had left to do was swim....that's easy right?!?! Gotta get this cast off!

Tri no. 2...I'm gonna get you!

Yes, let me tell you, it sure is nice being a beginner triathlete in the 35-40 age group. [sarcasm drips]

jerry - 2005-01-11 7:41 PM But we find our fountain of youth in doing triathletes.

Whoa! You mean I don't actually have to do triathlons, just triathletes?!  ;-) (There I go, showing my age...)

Maybe it just kind of rubs off in the whole process....
