Several recent races took several days to completely fill up where before they were filling within a few minutes. You can ensure your entry by volunteering the year prior (2009) and you get first dibbs at the slots... |

You can ensure your entry by volunteering the year prior (2009) and you get first dibbs at the slots...I think it may also have some to do with the new policy of having on-site registrations having to pay money up front, rather than a few weeks later. Weeds out the people that probably had little/no intention of really racing the next year. |

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I volunteered for the 2008 race partly to get a good spot in the 2009 entry line and would highly recommend it. I worked body marking and then the men's T1 change tent. It was a great opportunity to be able to help the racers on their way. I'll be in the volunteer line again in 2010 for sure. So, volunteer, it's a great experience and you get a good entry slot. |

I'm Canadian, and we have our long weekend in May 16-19. Anyone else available that weekend to meet up for a ride? Or any locals? I know this is a long time in advance but I'm a planner. I don't know anyone else doing the race, so it would be nice to have company for a ride. Also, does anyone know if historically, the lake would be swimmable by then? I know it was really cold last year, but in previous years, was it possible? Merry Christmas all. |

Lets keep in touch and get a group together that weekend. I'll be out there unless there is that one last race to brush up before the big one. Hope everyone's training is going well. Also hope you're all loving your trainer and treadmill (weve gotten 30+ inches of snow in the last 3 days here...its been tough training outside). This is my first Ironman distance. It seems like it was just a few days ago that I hit that 'submit' button on my computer to register for the race...yikes! The CDA IM crowd and organizers are awesome. If you haven't been there to race or watch before, you'll love it. I've been out there 2 or 3 times to check it out and it pumps me up every year. Anyhow, good luck to everyone! |

The cold here has been unbearable- it's hovering around -30 for about 1 1/2 weeks- I'm fairly hardy, but I find it tough running outside in this weather- short runs only!!! |

I usually head inside below about 15 degrees ( sorry...a little wimpy). For sure, lets keep in touch. I've been logging some decent base miles and some build 1 sort of stuff right now. Maybe a bit early, but I'm easing into it and going to make sure I'm ready. I'm calling it my "Train for 10:20 workout" (everyday) - for each individual event, I'm training to finish in 10 hours 20 minutes. Not sure thats going to happen, but who knows  . How's everyone else's training going? Any exciting events planned for the Spring time for checkpoints? |

I want to run the run this time, and if I do that, I don't care what my time is. My last Ironman I did mainly walking on the run portion, and that's mentally tough. I live in Edmonton Alberta, so we're used to the cold, but this is a little excessive!!! I'll just keep praying for an early spring!! |

Competing athletes get top priority for registration for 2010 followed by the people who volunteered; however, both must be there in person the Monday after race day to sign up in person. Otherwise, signing up at 1200 hours PST is the next best bet. The internet gets clogged up during the first hour but you should eventually be able to get on through Active.com. I recommend cutting and pasting the answers for the entry form to a word document so that you can complete the online entry quickly. It seems like this race fills up a little faster each year. Expert 839 Portland, OR | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread One thing I've done the last two seasons is go up to CDA over Memorial Day weekend which is the final peak training weekend of most Ironman plans and also happens to be the weekend of the CDA 1/2 marathon some of which is on the IM course. So a bunch of us last year rode the full 112 on Saturday bricked that with a couple quick miles and then ran the 1/2 mary on Sunday all while becoming familiarized with the course, the town etc. I'll be up volunteering this year so I'll cheer you all on since 09 isn't an IM year for me. |

(I volunteered last year in 2008) The earliest I've been in the lake has been at the very end of May or early June. The 16-19th might be pushing things a bit, particularly if the Spring thaw is as late as last year. Brrrr.... |

I know it can vary but a general range would be good??? Best guess is in the mid 60's. I've done IMCDA 4 times in a sleeveless wetsuit with no issues.
