Let's start this thing off with Beth telling everyone how her run went today......Well Beth...what say you?

Steve

Steve, you are a rascal!

ok, so let's just say I had the most amazing run of my life , seriously I can't stop smiling

I ran my longest distance ever, 7 miles!

I'm training for a 1/2 Mary at the end of January, so I'm working my way up in the distance - having only done Oly's before, this is moving into new territory for me

I felt really good about the approach, the pace, and the outcome

the best part is that I felt like I could have kept on going

Great job today and way to be a leader.

Steve

Way to go, Beth!

Best of all, as you said, you felt like you could have gone further--very important when training for endurance events like triathlons and long-distance running.

Hi, Chad! I'm the other leader of this Manatees group.

If it's in late March, it looks like the Original Sprint 13-week program here on BT would be very good for you. It's for people who can already run 30 min (however slowly! or even walk!), swim 30 min (even broken-up is fine) and bike 40 min.

If you can do that, you can probably even start several weeks into the program, depending on when exactly in March your triathlon is. Here's the link to the page where you can find it (it's one of the first programs):

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/trainingplans-list.asp?h=1&racetype=1&racesubtype=2&level=-1

There's also a good 10-week beginner program on a site called trinewbies.com: even though the site itself is not anywhere close to what BT is, some of their training programs are very good.

Here's the link: http://www.trinewbies.com/tno_trainingprograms/10wtp.pdf

I was able to do my first run in 12 days owing to a nasty cold ... very exciting!

It was my tri club's annual Santa Speedo Run (the costume in my avatar is from last year's run). We "dress down" and go charging down a major busy shopping street singing holiday carols and yelling "IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN!" while shoppers gawk and take pictures and cars honk at us.

(It's for an at-risk children's organization that trains them in tri--we provide funds and equipment as proceeds from the run).

Ha ha ha ha ... everyone seems to remember that special four seconds when I'm flying by with no support but that silly bikini top ...

[For the Manatees--you must forgive--I have a naughty streak! If you couldn't tell!]

Sadly, no video this year--my coach just wanted to have fun running instead of tearing around trying to get shots and then spending hours editing it all. There should be a bunch of fun pictures soon, though.

Hey guys, I am wondering if there's room in the group for me?

Name/other stats: Amy, aka givemashot. I am a pediatric nurse (hence the username), and I live in Utah. I am married, I am 33, and I have 2 school age kids.

How I got into tri/my background: I was an age group swimmer for years as a kid, and I swam and dove in high school. As the years have gone by I have become less and less active. A year ago, a good friend of mine challenged me to join her and a few of her coworkers in training for a sprint triathlon. Since she has been my on again/off again workout buddy over the last 10 years, I thought to myself, "Sure! Even if I don't actually do the tri, I'll be back into better shape!". She also introduced me to BT, and we both jumped in and joined the November 2008 challenge. I was on a little team know as NIBBS. (LOL. What volume of Nibbs are we on now Beth? The team is still chatting it up in the challenge forum--with a few additions and subtractions...). I only managed to do one sprint distance tri last year due to work schedules, hubby's travel schedules, and a yucky virus I caught at work at the end of the season. I have spent a LOT of time and energy learning more about triathlons, through BT, and the local tri club. The tri club hosts alot of clinics, group workouts, and a few lectures. They give points for each event you attend, and points for certain local tris throughout the season as well. I guess I had spent more time with them than I thought, because I was surprised at an end of year banquet with an award for point series champion for my age group for 2008.

My goals for this year/current training plan: I am planning on doing at least three sprint distance tris, maybe one of them with an OWS. I have an OW phobia, but I recently acquired my own wetsuit, so I have no more excuses. I also have recently agreed to do the Salt Lake half marathon with a few girls from work. I hope to overcome my biggest roadblocks this year--the OWS fear i mentioned, and the need to balance the kids, the work schedule of myself and hubby, and the motivation to stick to a training plan. I am currently starting back at square one with most of my training. i am taking a few months off from the pool, and have been focusing on the run, and added the bike back in this month. I am currently doing a bike training plan from a Jorge here on BT, and loosely following the tail end of a couch to 5k running plan from coolrunner.

Races in 2009:

Salt Lake half marathon-April 2009

Woman of Steel-Utah-May 2009

Shark Attack Triathlon-June 2009

South County Tri-August 2009

?Daybreak tri-September 2009?

?Bear Lake Brawl-September 2009?
