Thanks for the welcome.  As soon as I started having pains I went and got some new shoes and a new gait analysis.  I have a meeting with a podiatrist next week to get his advice on training.  I definitely do over-pronate, so the running store employees suggested I got the Asics Evolutions.

Hey Mo,
I would like to continue to be in your group! I don't have my first tri until the 10th, but it would be kind of neat to possibly work with someone in the HR area.

I think we talked about this before..

you can use the guideline method.. 220-age* percent effort (.6, .65, .7, .75, .8, .85, .9).

this will give the a range of were you are.. To get it correct HR training, you have to find out your Lactic Threshold, VOmax, and some other things.. There's a place locally, acutally it in suffolk.. that does this.... i think its call "in motion" or something like that.. check that out.

Hi Mo! I would love to join your group if you still have room.

I am: tnguyen1/ Tania

Background: Competitive swimmer since I was 7 through high school. When I got into college is where I stopped being active and where I got into trouble. I gained a total of 35 + pounds by 2007 and I decided to do something about it. Worked with a trainer and got it off but now I find my self bored with the gym. Gained back 10lbs.  I have always wanted to do a triathlon but never acted on it. So here I am! Big triathlon this year is the 2009 US Open Triathlon in Dallas. I want to do a couple smaller (sprint distances) ones in the next few months, just not sure which ones yet. From my competitive swim background, I've got a solid stroke but don't have the endurance behind it yet. Ridden mountain bikes for fun but never road bikes for long distances. Love spin class, although I know it's not even a close comparison. Running will be my Archilles heel. Not going to lie, the hardest I've ever run was because a huge rotweiler was chasing me.

Hi,

Do you think you may have room for one more?  I am new to triathalons.  A friend of mine asked if I would be interested in a triathlon in July and I decided to do it.  This will be my first one and I am a little nervous.  I am currently training for a half marathon in May.  I don't really know much about proper gear, technique and form when it comes to swimming and biking.  Being in a mentor group will be very beneficial to me so I can learn from others and avoid any injuries.

What are everyone's training/workout plans for the weekend?  Bea-u-ti-ful weather expected in our area.  Yea!

I'm volunteering at our town's marathon (Charlottesville Marathon) Saturday.  Some friends and I'll be cheering and offering liquids and such at the 1/2 way point.  Go, go, go!!

After that I hope to be mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, and maybe squeezing in a run.  Oh yeah, plenty of frisbee too.  What a great time of year!

me i plan on taking advantage of this weather.. some bike riding and running tomorrow.. and more bike riding and running on sun..

I would first off like to welcome you all to my mentor group. I hope you all will gain something from this group.. this is my second time mentoring.. i have a few return group members.

I issue challenges every month in all three disciplines... very attainable goals.. this helps me see where you need help..

i have things (spreadsheets and articles) that will help you with hydration and nutrition.. i have articles that i have written on preparedness for races(equipment).. i can also help with weight training.. because i'm a fitness coach..

if i can't answer a question, i know someone that can.. so ask away.. don't be shy.

later

Happy training

Hi Mo...
Are you still open?  When I read your profile I thought I would fit in here best but I see you have a bunch of people already.
I'm going to give a little bio just in case...
My name is Lauren and I'm 31 (yikes) I haven't competed in a race, but I have a swimming & running background (swimming before I could walk, track in high school and running at the gym).  So I'm definately a beginner with lots of questions and in need of the push from a group.  I signed up for a sprint in September because I've always wanted to do a tri (I'm not sure why) ...plus I need to do this for myself cause I'm caring for a family member with cancer right now.  Phew
I'll check back in this weekend to see if I'm in :
Thanks and good luck to everyone,
   L

As I think you may already know, I'm training for my first; the 3Sport in July.  I'm already using Ron's 13 week to sprint tri plan but may need to ask you a few questions.  It seems like a good fit with us being just up the road.  Let me know if you have room.

Momo,
Got my first race ever done this morning. Wanted to go 1:45 and ended up going 1:31.02 according to my watch. I am about as happy as a guy can be. Passed about 6 people on my swim. Bike was good gave up a few spots, but I was freezing for the first 3 miles, and my chain popped off a half mile from transition. Took me a minute to fix it. Run was tough, as it was a 5k trail run so I had to be extremely careful on portions with my feet, but I think I need to do some more over distance training to get my pace time down. All in all I am excited about the next one in a month.

Great job Adam!  Your weight loss and finish time are very impressive.  You motivate me!  My first triathlon is June 21st.  I hope I do as well as you did.

Let me know if you have the space.
