Is this for all athletes? Or is this like the thing I have seen at expos that costs a large fee plus a subscription?

Either way, I am psyched about the race.
So far, the customer service via email has been awesome!

Also, it appears Camper Village is a matter of FEET from the transition area!!! I'm so excited!

The Trakkers device is included as a part of your race registration fee for this race.  Trakkers will likely also be available at other non Rev3 races soon for a small fee. Smile

Just came from the info session in sandusky, the trackers are limited to 300 or so, at least at this point.  Tey will be available on a first come first served basis.

It definately sounds like Rev3 are on top of things for this race.  They were out there today going over the entire bike course.  Taking a lot of input to where the finish line will be, where inside the park.  And are also looking a switching the swim to the bay area.  They have set up discount lodging I believe at Kalahari, Sawmill Creek, Cedar Point hotels and Great Wolf lodge.

Awesome! I called Cedar Point to reserve a campsite at Camper Village and they already have a triathlon rate set up, so that's awesome. It appears the transition is just steps from the camp sites and from the Breakers!

You got me going!!! I called and reserved a room, too!  I'm totally excited now b/c I think we'll have a great MI contingent (Rawk Squad where are you?)

The trakkers thing is cool, I tracked someone using it and really enjoyed following them.  I hope it's truly available for more than just the 1st 300.

Note, the rez gal commented she was surprised at how many reservations they have already for this event.....

For all out there, they also stated they were capping registration at 1500, not sure if thats firm but jst to know.

There is also a tri team/group/club discount for this race and a tri team/group/club competition.

Am DEFINITELY considering this one.  I love Cedar Point and, since I'm from Ohio, it'd be cool to represent.  I'll be representing the BOP, but representing nonetheless.

JChristoff - 2009-09-04 10:17 AM I'm considering the HIM... a lot of fun options for before and after the race (ie Kalahari, the park itself, Put-in Bay. Swim wise: Lake Erie rarely gets super rough like Lake Michigan or Huron. It will be warm because it is super shallow compared to the others. It is nice to have the option for a Sandusky Bay swim in a just-in-case situation. Bike... Super flat. Only have to worry about wind coming off the lake. Run... A little disapointed that it doesn't look like it takes you though much of the park which was very surprising to me.

I completely disagree.
Because it is shallow it gets rougher than Michigan or Huron.  Not so much swells but chop. yes it is warmer.

Alright, I'm all registered. This will be my first Ironman and looks like the venue will be sweet.

My wife is from OH and for the first 3 years of our marriage whenever amusement parks came up in conversation she would rant and rave about how sweet Cedar Point is. I would always just play it down like it couldn't be that cool, but after going there myself I realized she was not exaggerating! So, when I went to ask for her permission to register, the conversation was over after mentioning the venue

Anyways, this seems like it will be a quality event experience all around and I'm totally excited for it!

God bless your pea-pickin' heart. I don't think I could mentally or physically train for a race over 10+ months. I haven't signed up yet, but will soon. Then, I plan on beginning my training for the race in March/April timeframe. In the meantime, I am running a marathon and will be getting ready for local Oly/sprints as well as AG Nationals next year...so, not like starting from nothing...just diffferent focus.

I just finished The Detroit Free Press Marathon. I learned that I SUCK at running. So.... as soon as the pain is gone I'm going to build and build and build and build a SOLID running base. 10 months from now I will be able to swim, bike and SPRINT my HIM!

ahohl -

What is the triathlon rate at Camper Village? And is this something that will be open only to triathletes, or will the general public (read: noisy party twerps) also be there?

It's between Cedar Point and Louisville for me (with ChesapeakeMan as a third option).

I am impressed with how Cedar Point is shaping up. The website has evolved quite a bit in the past few weeks, and the course looks quite fine. All three legs have a lot of appeal, and on first glance the whoe thing seems challenging, but fair.

I'm figuring that unless there are gales from the west, the swim will be the 2-looper in Sandusky Bay. One person posting on slowtwitch expressed concern about the first turn of the Lake Erie option being close to a mile out, and I think that will similarly worry a lot of potential registrants.

I really like the looks of the bike course, with enough varied terrrain to force changes in gearing and cadence. But if the winds are forcefully out of the west on race day, it will make for a long slog back to T2, with the better part of the final 33 miles going from east to west. So there's another reason to hope for race-day winds out of the east (that is, if they must blow at all! )

The run looks great. I know that one person posting here was a bit disappointed that parts of the run do not navigate the park, but for me I just don't want THAT much stimulation during an iron run. Those long stretches (8 miles in total!!!) along the causeway are ideal for my mentality ( I train solo in the flatlands of eastern Ontario), and I would probably enjoy the zig-zagging through Sandusky, for variety (and maybe ample fan support?). Is there a hill in sight for that run course?

Other reasons to look favorably on Cedar Point:
(1) The Rev3 people seem to have been very responsive to the comments about the Quassy course, and I just get the feeling that they don't necessarily feel that their way is the only way.
(2) They are setting a reasonable cap on numbers for the race; it will not be a madhouse of course chaos.
(3) The refund policies are very fair, as are the staggered price increases. I'll be 61 in January, so my body is not so quick to come on board about another iron, and needs ample time to make its decision!
(4) Competition is good, and I think some viable options to M-dot races are essential. So, there is a lot to be said for supporting the independent races whenever possible. And here's one that looks like it could be a great one, so.......

Sorry - I honestly can't recall how much it was. Pricey for a camp site, but less than $50 a night, I think.
Camper Village is not closed to the general public. But kids are back in school and I don't think it will be too crowded with partiers. If it is, I guess we will just turn the heater/AC to VENT and turn it on full blast. That usually drowns out most of the noise.  It's RVs only - no tents.

I think it's appealing due to being just steps from transition. That would really help my stress level on race day and the day before.

Will be doing the full IM at Cedar Point. It is 5 min from where I live. In fact, my home is on the bike course so I can train on the actual course and train the run course as well. Am going to do Knoxville Oly as my first Tri and Cedar Point as my first IM! Just started Don Fink's 30 week Intermediate plan. Have been swimming since Nov. Yes, I just started swimming, basically for the first time in my life! Cedar Point will be a GREAT venue for this event. It is family heaven. Look forward to seeing you all there....hopefully on each course!!

I am signed up and getting my head around the whole IM thing. I am sure it will be a great time and I won't have to worry about what the kids are doing for the day. My first IM and I still have not decided on what training plan to use. Good luck to all. I look forward to meeting my fellow BTers at the race.

Interesting going into a second IM distance race. Totally different perspective.

Okay. So, which is the "real" official thread for this race?
