Will that be in the way if we're coming Via 94?

Annandale is on Hwy 55, so at some point you'd need to get to that.  If I was coming from 94, my inclination would be to take 94 to 394 to 494 North and then Hwy 55 West.  To avoid the detour, you can follow my route from 394.    However, maybe there's another way that I don't know about.

We're up north from you aways...We usually go 694 to 94 to 25 (I think that's Monticello), then down to 55 in Buffalo. Sometimes we take the northern exit (aka, when I miss the turn) which is clearwater, HWY 24, which backtracks right into the backside of annandale (IIRC).

I'm not sure where teh construction on 55 is in relation to those, however...

If you enter 55 in Buffalo, then you're fine.  The construction is much closer to the cities.

Looks like we'll escape the heat. That is a VERY GOOD thing for this cold-weather mudder (knock on wood).

I've heard such good things about this race and am looking forward to it.

Should be a nice BT gathering.  Looking forward to seeing everyone.  (Except JoeR on the run).

BikerGrrrl - 2009-07-16 10:34 AM

Just got this on the GWTC list:

From MnDot - Motorists will encounter a detour on Hwy 55 in Medina between Highway 101 and County Road 116 beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, July 17 through 5 a.m. Monday, July 20, as work crews make road and drainage improvements.

Weekend travelers will detour from Hwy 55 onto Hwy 101 to County Road 10, to County Road 116 and back to Hwy 55.

Construction will extend for approximately five miles between County Road 116 and Fernbrook Lane.

Edit: I checked the map, this isn't too bad.  However, here's the route I am going to take as a total bypass:

Hwy 394/12 past Long Lake
Right on Cty 19 (past Baker Park)
Left on 55 in Loretto.

Ok, I'm kind of directionally challenged... I wish they'd just give an address on the website, so I could figure it out. Is the transition area hard to find from 55? I'm in Mpls.

TIA for any advice!!

So you're thinking you will be starting the run before me?

xctfnorseman - 2009-07-15 11:11 PM Never done HOTL (3rd tri ever) and doing the long course.  What is the course like, particularly the bike, can one stay in their big gear in the front the whole way?  Thanks!

Course is flat to rolling, no major steep climbs...i don't ever recall needing my small ring.

Swim is typically warm...in the years I've done it, it's been 50/50 for wetsuits. (Although it's been a pretty cold, dry spring and summer, so that may affect it to the cool side.)

Run is flat to rolling, no shade at ALL. Start in town, then head out and you run around the lake. THAT is why this race sux on hot days. :p

Hope everyone had a good race!! I looked for the group, but I must not have known where to look because I couldn't find you. Had the kids in tow, too.

I really enjoyed the course, and would definitely race it again. My dh liked the look of it, too. We'll probably have to fight it out on who gets to do it and who gets to watch the kids.

xctfnorseman - 2009-07-20 9:34 AM Perfect weather, perfect course.  I am looking forward to doing it again next year.

On a side note, what was up with all the drafting?  I started in Wave 8 of the long course (which sucked in terms of transition times), but at one point during the bike I had to swerve to the left hand side of the road around a peleton???  Rumor has it the elites weren't much better?

Flat course + little to no wind + a lot of people + not a lot of officials to break it up = a recipe for packs to form.

The elite race was pretty clean this year, at least what I could see of it (I came out of the water 16th and off the bike 6th or 7th, I think).  I passed one group of 3 that were really close together on the first hill on Co. Rd. 44, but that's about it.  Waaay better than last year, which was a total clusterf**k with a ton of well deserved penalties handed out.
