What bikes are you looking at?

Here's my current list, feel free to weigh in anyone! I'm looking to be less than 3K since I'll need new pedals, etc... I'm really looking for the equivalent in features to my road bike - Carbon, Ultegra components, Comfort, etc...Some of these may offer more than I really need, so this is just the initial pass.

- Cannondale Slice 4 - haven't seen this in person and the shop has no idea when they'll be available

- Orbea Ora TLE, TLT, DA - I haven't spent as much time comparing various models, I did ride an Ora at Atlanta Cycling, and it was pretty comfortable.

- Felt B12 - just saw this in person.  It's v. v. nice.

- Kuota K-Factor - just for the components alone, at this price point, I'm considering it, though I've only seen one, haven't actually been on one yet

- Others that I like - Kestral, Blue (Triad), QR, GURU (no dealers in GA) and Wilier (I think they are gorgeous bikes).

My husband covets the Wilier road bike, not sure which model. They are indeed gorgeous.

runnergirl - 2009-09-08 8:07 AM I finally bite the bullet and got a tri bike- after doing tri's on my road bike for 2.5 seasons with clip ons.  For one though my bike was too big and that was a huge part of my problem.  I never felt good in aero position and for the most part I never rode in aero because it was too darn uncomfortable.

I went to all3 the other weekend and got fitted and got a tri bike- I've only ridden it twice so far, but I really LOVE it. I can't believe the difference between a road and tri bike.  I don't know now if I'll ever want to ride my road bike again- maybe if it actually fit me better I might.  But as of now, it's still too big after making several modifications to it and putting the money into making it fit and I'm basically over it.

I've found that over the years of trying to make my road bike into a tri bike I should have just gotten a tri bike a long time ago because no matter how much I tried, it was still uncomfortable.  So from my experience, I would say if you're thinking about it and have the money, go for a tri bike   You won't be disappointed and if you do a lot of races it's totally worth it!  Comfort is key- especially with longer distances like an IM.

Can I ask what you ended up with?

I got a QR Dulce.  I was pretty much at the mercy of what fit me, being that I am so short. And price wise- I knew i wanted a good bike but I also didn't want to spend a fortune either.  I went to all3 for a bike fitting and had my eye on the P2, QR Dulce, and the Lucero.  They were all out of the 2009 P2's and I knew I wanted a tri bike before IM Cozumel this Nov and didn't want to wait that long.  And then I found that that the last '08 Lucero frame was sold (which btw that was a really good deal), so pretty much it was a decision between the QA Caliente and Dulce. I loved the color of the Dulce and went with that one   So far I'm really liking my new bike.

I agree with everyone on here that a tri bike is the way to go.  It made a huge difference for me not only for a more comfortable ride (especially when we're talking about iron distance) but also on my run.  I PR'd on the run the week after I got my tri bike because of how it saves your hamstrings.

As for where to buy one, let me know if you're interested in a discount at All3Sports.  I can get you a discount if it's your first bike purchase there.  They do include a fit with your bike purchase at a discount.  And you definitely want to get fitted properly when you buy a bike.  Matt's been bike fitting for a long time and he's great at what he does.

Let me know if you want to talk to those guys and look at the bikes they have.  I can meet you up at the store one day and get you a discount if you end up finding one you like there.

That's actually one of the bikes I'm interested in - it's a gorgeous bike (the QR).  I may head up to All3 on Saturday to scout out what they've got.  Yvonne - if I find one I like, I may check back with you, because that would be awesome!
