peanut1981 - 2009-10-19 8:27 AM Door County had strippers for the sprint distance also this past summer. awesome! I'm trying to decide between Door County and Racine for my first halfiron.
I've done Door County for the last few years. Actually, both my wife and I have raced it - everything from the Sprint to the Olympic
(when they had it
) and the HIM.
I know there are a lot here who really like Racine
(which I admittedly havn't done
), but I think Door County is a phenomonal race. And, its a nice destination to spend some time at afterwards with the family. We usually camp at Peninsula State park the following week.
Things to note:
Sprint is on a Saturday and HIM on Sunday.
The sprint race tends to fill up and close registration early and I suspect the HIM could also hit their limit this year.
I've heard the HIM distance is more challending than SOR but I'll let people who've done both clarify that one.
The HIM run has some big hills but it ends going down a long hill, which is always fun.
I didn't notice it, but I heard they ran out of Gatorade
(or whatever they use
) early in the ride and this was a problem for some racers. Knowing the RD, I am sure he took this criticism to heart and will make sure it doesn't happen again.
Basically, I think its a really good race venue - Sean Ryan is a very good and safe RD
(except for funning out of gatorade on the bike course
), the event is nicely organized and well-supported, very secure transition area, good parking, scenic bike and run routes, and the best
(and I mean the best!
) vittles after the race.
Oh - and they have strippers.
