Subject: RE: Training intensity and restTH3_FRB - 2005-06-02 11:00 AM So, back to training intensity. While I understand that it might be difficult to hold yourself back early in the training season, I suggest training only in the aerobic zones for at least 2-3 months before you attempt any intense workouts. You really need that strong base to build power later in the season. Eventually you can begin to add tempo/threshold runs, which will train your body to more efficiently deal with lactic acid and allow you to ride the boundary of your LT, which is key during long races where you can't afford to get into oxygen debt until the final miles. So here is my question - I began my 11 week Sprint Tri program about 4 weeks ago. In the beginning for my "runs" I would basically have to walk to keep my heart rate in my zone. I have heard from everywhere that I need to build my base for 2-3 months before I start to train harder. I've heard this all over, and I would like to build my base. Problem is - my 11 week training program. How can I build my base and worry about finishing my first sprint mid-September. Should I just hold off until next season to compete in my first triathlon? (I really don't want to if I don't have to) or should I base train and compete in the Tri anyway? All of this stuff is so confusing. Like trilover was saying, I feel like I'm just out there with no direction, no matter how much I read. Edited by justalittletri 2005-07-25 12:56 PM
