After seeing this video I can not decide on my 50 mm for the downhills or my road wheels for the climbs. So, what type of wheels are you planning to ride on this course?

I agree with Scotty - I will be using my road tires.  New to biking so can you explain the differnece between the two tires and why you would possibly choose either?

Thanks

He is talking about the Rim profile on carbon wheels. The mm is the depth of the rim. Anyway I am also curious on what I iwll run.. I guess it all depends how light of wheels you have.. Its mainly the weight that kills extra deep rims on the climb. If they weight like 1500 grams or so you should be okay.. I think the deep wheels on the downhills would be nice but if they are heavy going up might not make them worth it. Either way going down will be fast and going up will hurt.

Anyone have any idea how the transitions and transportation are going to work. Looks like T1, T2 and finish are all in different locations. Are they going to have shuttles for everyone or what?

I assume they will have check in for equipment the night before. I am not 100% sure but I was talking to a guy that did a race that was similiar and they had a Transition check in the night before.. Who knows though.. I am curious myself.

haha it was brutal. I was trying to run 7:05-10 min pace so I could qualify for boston.. I made it to mile 16 around that pace and my legs couldnt keep up.. I made it to mile 24 doing a walk jog thing.. I mentally and physically was done so I DNF'd it.. I still was at 3:30 at 24miles but just was so done and could hardly walk at that point. 2 miles seemed like 20 miles away at that point. Anyway probably learned more that day than any other race I have ran so it wasnt a waste. I hope Branson is better

I got my first OWS in yesterday in my wetsuit. The water was about 66 and felt good after I got swimming.  I only did about 600 yards, but it was alot different int he wetsuit than without it. My right shoulder got tired from trying to swim inthe wetsuit. I have a full Zoot wetsuit Iam using.

I think I have some work to do in the suit to get a full 1.2 mile swim in, I almost think I could do it easier without the suit!  lol

I wasnt planning on swimming with a suit.. Do you think I should rethink that idea? this is my first half so I dont really know what to expect.. I assume the water will be warm enough in Sept to go without one..

If it is wetsuit legal, I will wear it just for the added bouyancy, and this way I do not have to burn my legs kicking. I know I am faster with a wetsuit on.

I have wanted to do a 1/2 for the last couple of years, they have always been a little to far away for me. When I found out there was going to be one close to me I was so excited, I signed up in Jan. I am so nervous and excited. Definitely will be doing lots of hills after reading all the posts.

Speaking of hills.. I am planning on going down there this summer to do some riding on the main road they have most of the bike course.. I drive it some and yes its hilly.. The good thing is that you will be able to catch your breath on the downhills. (-;

Take me advice (from doing MANY hilly 1/2IM)...spin easy up the hills and let all the people go by you and win the king of the hill race and then push hard on the down hill as they coast and fly past them.  You're legs will be fresher for the run and you will still have the same or faster bike split as a lot of those people.

Does anyone know what the cut off times are? I have tried to find them a few different places, with no luck.

I am pretty sure even spinning easy on some of those hills is going to hurt.

There is not really a cut off time in a Half Ironman.  However, from all the things I have found and read, everyone should have 8 hours from the time the last athelete starts the swim.  This is mostly due to the wave starts vs. a mass start in a full.  I could never find any official cutoffs as a full Ironman has in place.  You may just want to email the race director for an official stance.
