Expert 1210 Near Tampa | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread Guys, there is abother thread going for this race, maybe that's why - that said, i have the same concerns: lack of communication from the RD. The race page has been updated a few times, more sponsorship than anything else but the courses are there. I am soooo looking fwd to this race. Also, being from Tampa I will be volunteering at 70.3's Championship in Clearwater 2 weeks later, it was announced today that the Championship race will move to Vegas next yr (bummer :-( I guess its our award for all the resident's complaining about road closures and loss of business...yadda, yadda, yadda. The city loses. Pretty soon we'll also loose the Rays baseball team...just watch! So, 3 weeks to go, and a lot of traveling awaits me the next 2 weeks. I gotta find ways to train while on the road and staying at hotels. Any last minute conditioning tips? Otherwise, G'luck mates! and let the swim be "with" the strong current, not against it. :-) Later! |

Expert 1210 Near Tampa | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread Good deal - thank for the tips. Everyone, bring some cash to buy your 70.3 visors at the expo, looks like we'll need them. trirun26 - 2010-10-01 2:35 PM Welcome to South Florida! Here is some info that may be helpful.... YES!!! it will be hot and possibly windy. The bike course is definately windy going over the causeways (our hills..lol) but we can definately survive it. There will be buildings, trees and homes in certain areas to block the wind so there is no need to panick. The Water will most like be too warm for a wetsuit...last year I did a HIM in Miami and the water was one degree below so we were allowed to use wetsuits and most people (including me) had to take them off on the second loop due to feeling overheated...so plan on no wetsuits ;-). The area of the swim can be a little choppy with strong current. I just did "escape to miami" last weekend, similar swim and the current was pretty strong. You can certainly drive the bike course, YES there is alot of traffic but you can drive it...bike it? hmmmmm not recommended unless a TRI group is putting up a ride together. It is an awesome venue. We should all have a great time! For those coming out of town make sure to make a stop in South Beach!!! Tri on kids... |

4 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread Anyone have a clue on whether swim cutoff is 1:10 from wave start or from last wave? My glacial pace in the water is pretty nerve-wracking, so it'd be nice if I could spend the next 3 weeks not worrying about it. |

Veteran 220 Plant City, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread you will be fine... the good thing about a slow swim (i am) is no one will overrun you and your bike is easy to find. Then you get to pass all those "fast" swimmers on the bike, or not, it's all good. Then after parking the bike it's all a catered run with cheering all the way to the finish line. Three weeks away, worry not you're there but for the t-shirt. |

New user 529 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread Swim wave start times are posted on the website. (I guess the race director isn't dead after all.) I start at 7:08am. Is the sun even up at that hour? Just did a 2000 meter continuous swim tonight for the first time - wasn't really all that difficult, which reduces some of my swim anxiety. BTW, where is the other thread regarding this race? |

Veteran 118 Harrisburg, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread If there's another thread, I couldn't find it. And I've been busy but I've been reading posts on here. Unlike you guys, I rec'd an email from the race director a couple of weeks ago. Said there'd be more info as the race nears. I am excited about the race but also nervous. Just as I'd been getting into the heaviest weeks of training, work started demanding way to much of my life. I've had some good weeks but many less than good weeks. Swimming I do more than enough. Running I think I have enough in the bank. Bike is weak. Between work (and rain on crucial long ride days) and the shortening daylight, it's been hard. I have to ship my bike today so I'll be riding the rest of my training on a mtn bike. I actually think my long rides on the mtn bike will be a good approximation of riding in Miami. By that I mean, Miami is going to be flat so it's peddle all the time with no resting on downhills. Road biking here is up and down on rolling hills. But I mtn bike one trail that is about 3 1/2 hours of constant/consistent peddling. Well, even if it's not a good approximation, at this point I have to psych myself to believe it is because it's what I have! This will be my first 70.3. I did just the swim & bike at Eagleman because I entered too late. I just hope to break 7 hours but will be really happy if I get closer to 6:30. Good luck and see you in Miami. Joe |

I can't believe u have been the only one so far that I know of that has received an email from the race..how funny. The weather down here has been pretty good..not 2 hot!!!! or humid but it has been on the windy side. I start at 7:15 or 16 in the am...sun starts coming out around 7:10 or so. This race should be fun! and I am looking forward to it and seeing how everyone does...I am currently fighting a cold which is freaking me out but I guess better now than closer to the race. keep on training...Alicia |

Veteran 118 Harrisburg, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread I've been getting lots of emails from the race. On 17 Sept I actually rec'd one signed by the Race Director at the bottom. It wasn't very informative (not the typical email like you get from RDs 10 or so days before the race) and just told me to stay on top of happenings by checking the press releases and the website. Aside from this, I'll bet I've rec'd 50 emails from the race about so and so being a sponsor or so and so is racing. I'm looking forward to getting to Miami and doing this event. And enjoying some warmth & sunshine. Tonight is supposed to be a bike ride for me and it's pouring rain with an expected high of 52 degrees!!!! Joe |

Elite 3315 Miami | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread i have not seen another thread besides this one.... 1 don't count on wetsuit as the new WTC rules are 76 degrees not the USAT rules of 78 degrees. temp has dropped over past couple of weeks. from high 80's to mid low 80's and 70's at night. my prediction...IF the weather stays.... 1. 7 am race start water will be around 76-79 degrees based on historicals. 2. wind will be picking up to about 15 mph by 11 - 12pm.... 3. if sunny expect running in about 85 degrees with a high level of humidity about 75-85% hopefully this cold front maintains thru end of this month and maybe cools off some more....but don't get your hopes up.... i recommend a possible fast skin and some skin cooler gear.... swim - be prepared for a long swim, currents will be strong, they are always strong in that bay. the bike course will be fast....i have done races there...the cross wind is nothing....and once you are downtown with the big buildings shielding you it will be fast....on the way back from old cutler road things will be very quick.... the run you will see some carnage...there is absolutely 0 cover and a monster bridge that looks like nothing.... |

Member 5 Miami | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread Unbelievable...and the course is changed 2 weeks out...just like that. Would be nice to get an official "heads up", but all I received today was an email about yet another sponsor. Well, at least we're not running across the MacArthur Causeway (twice). Like someone said previously, the HILL on this causeway is a killer, and doing it twice would have been torture on an otherwise fast course. During the Escape to Miami race down here in September every year, that HILL has punished a lot of triathletes. |

Elite 3315 Miami | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread they changed all 3 if you want to know. bike was going to miami beach but apparently they couldn't get city of miami approval. run was same as ING now we get to go to the port. the swim is little different. thing is with swim there it depends on the current. i think we get to swim into it the entire way until the final turn around. the bike will be flat and fast. the run course....well the bridge tot he port is small BUT....you have to do it 4 times i think as you do 2 loops. |

New user 529 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread This just in. If you plan on the pasta dinner next Friday, you have to call Jennifer and make your reservation by tomorrow. I just received the email today. I called Jennifer and let her know that this was the first email I had received from anyone associated with Miami 70.3. She told me that race updates have been going out, but this is the first that I ever received. For a race of this magnitude, it seems as if the organizers really don't know what the hell they're doing. Very disappointing. We'll see how the race goes, but my expectations have been lowered. |

Does anyone know? I searched everywhere on the site but could not find a thing. I sure hope I don't regret signing up for Miami Man Half IM!!! who are super super organized...may the current be with us and the wind and sun on our backs! |

Veteran 250 Florida! | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread packet pickup is at the hyatt, where the expo is. bike drop off is, of course, in the transition area, in front of the intercontinental / bayfront park. that's clear from the website. the website is poorly organized, but there is a lot of information there. i have been getting updates. some hit my spam box though so maybe check there. that run course is jacked. i'd rather just have the original course over the macarthur. |
