Subject: RE: Disco Triathlon : Official Threadyeah it's looking like most of the races are going w/ the new disposable chips (similar to those used in marathons and 5k/10ks). i just use my old timing chip 'anklet' and put the orange chip on it. but i agree they are wayy bigger than they need to be. you can always shave down some of the plastic if you're like me and always trim your race numbers. my Disco thoughts: Bike: i HATE those roads. all i could think about was this year's stage 3 of the TdF, the cobblestone stage. i ended up getting TWO flats. thankfully the Bicycles Plus van was roaming the course and they hooked me up w/ a free tube so i could finish. although i lost a good 35 minutes between the 2 flats and all of the walking. i also got nervous/worried because i spilt all the water outta my aero drink when changing my flats. so i ended up getting a WARRRM bottle of water from one of the policeman who had it in his trunk lol. but it was better than nothing. i also picked up a water bottle that someone else dropped but it only had a small amount of warm water left in it. i was just glad i was able to finish. Swim: that swim was CRAZY choppy compared to TexasMan a few months ago. BUT, at least it was the full distance and not short. i could instantly tell that the buoys were further out than they were in TexasMan. and it was annoying that they moved the buoys sooo far left for this race. for TexasMan the buoys were more to the right and i only saw 5-10 people who found the "sand" bar and walked it. but you all know that is wasn't a sand bar, it was a ROCK bar. that thing was painful. Run: same exact course as TexasMan, my watch read under 6.2mi as well (6.17mi (pedometer not GPS)). I was exstatic to see that they added powerade to more of the water stations. at TexasMan they only had powerade at the 3.1mi turnaround. and the ice cups and cold towels were amazing as well. overall the race organizer is getting better. most of my old complaints have been addressed: incorrectly advertised distances, crappy water stations, etc. |
