Oh this sounds fun. It comes at a bad time for me to ramp up training but I am going to lurk so I can learn from you all before diving in about October or November or so.

NAME: Tracy/TracyV
STORY: I have been doing triathlon for 5 years. I am mainly a sprinter/oly distance athlete. I started triathlon because I was seriously bored with running. I was the runner in a relay and fell in love with the sport after participating in my first event.
FAMILY STATUS: Married, with no kids, 2 dogs and 3 cats.
CURRENT TRAINING: My last race is Aug. 28. I will then move into the off season, which is about 16 weeks for me. I plan to have a run focus, training for a HM on Halloween and then start working on my bike until Jan.
2010 RACES/Activities:  This has been a banner year for me. I have won my AG almost every race and have made it in to the OA winner status twice. I feel as though I could be a better, stronger athlete if I get leaner and stronger. Hence, the P90X.
CURRENT WEIGHT: 142.2  as of this morning.
% BODY FAT: 15.5% (that is low I think, just have a cheapo scale, but should be able to measure % lost from the program)
GOALS: I would like to lose 7-10 pounds from the program. My goal for the 2011 race season is to be in the 130 range with 13% body fat. I believe I can achieve this. I just need the right program.

Great idea, Tracy!

NAME: Blake
STORY:My first triathlon was 2 years ago - an Xterra event. It was a really tough race, and I ended up crashing more than halfway through the bike portion and cracking two of my ribs. Last January, I met my current girlfriend and while I continued to train off and on last year, I did not participate in any events. As the year wore on, my healthy habits fell to the wayside and I gained quite a bit of weight.

I've struggled with my weight since junior high, and resolved a few years ago to begin a process of living a healthier lifestyle. While I have had some setbacks, I am still almost 100 lbs lighter than where I started (but still have a ways to go).

This year, I finally got my act together again around the end of May and have been back on the wagon since.
FAMILY STATUS: Serious relationship - popping the question in a few weeks. No kids, but 4 dogs between the two of us.
CURRENT TRAINING: No races this year, but have been working on establishing a base again after being inactive for about 8 months.
2010 RACES/Activities: Ran a 5K at the beginning of August, and have a 10K the 2nd week of October. Considering a half marathon in December.
CURRENT WEIGHT: 265 as of this morning.
% BODY FAT: Will take a measurement of this prior to starting the program - I doubt it will be pretty. lol.
GOALS: To finish the program. I attempted to do it at the beginning of the year, made it 2 months and quit. I'm here to lose some more weight, be healthy, improve my base and have fun. (Oh yeah - and BRING IT!)

NAME: Marcia/Kimmax

STORY: At 38 I started to have this overwhelming feeling that I needed to do something for myself.  I wanted to challenge myself in some new way and see if I had what it took to meet the challenge.  I’ve never been an athletic person (i.e. sports) but have always found a lot of pleasure in swimming/cycling.  Dec. 2007 I saw some photos of people getting ready for a triathlon and thought "I could try that".  Summer of 2008 I completed my first three TATs.  Last summer I worked up to sprints.  This year I turned 40 and signed up for my first Olympic.  It’s this Saturday!  I used to weight train approximately 3 hours per week and liked the results but let I it all slide with tri-training and feel soft as a result.

FAMILY STATUS: I’m married, one amazing child, two sneaky black cats.

CURRENT TRAINING: My last triathlon is this Saturday.  I’m building up to a 100km ride on October 2nd and I plan to run the Niagara half marathon on October 24th.

2010 RACES/Activities:  The past two years I started the season off with a bike spill so – knock on wood – this season was off to a good start!  Prior to this year I felt like I struggled in my races and was happy to just finish them.  This year (2 sprints completed) I was happy with how strong I felt during the race and pleased to see some improvements.  No clue how I’ll feel this weekend.  Just trusting the plan/training.  Like Tracy, I feel that if I could tone up and get leaner I’ll be even stronger.  And I miss the resistance training.  Hence, the P90X.

CURRENT WEIGHT: 142.5 as of yesterday.
% BODY FAT: 26% (all located in my trunk!)

GOALS: I think my ideal weight is closer to the 130-135 mark which means I’d like to a %BF of closer to 15%.  I feel as though I’ve been trying to lose the same 5 pounds for about a year.  It feels so much harder to control my weight now-a-days. Hoping P90X will shock my body in to submission!!

Congrats on the great placings Tracy and way to go Blake on the weight loss to date!!

I think I'm in for this... I did a round of p90x a couple of years ago and thought it was great. I saw results really quickly so I'd like to give it another go this year.My name is Robyn and I'm 28, single with 2 lovely puppy dogs and I live in Denver. I work full time as a biochemist for a biofuels company. I am currently training for Rev3 Cedar Point full and will be all done with that on September 12. I'd like to avoid the post-Ironman blues by having another goal already in the works. So my goals for this would be 1) drop 10 lbs, 2) bench press my body weight, 3) 5 unassisted REAL pullups, 4) a sub-4 marathon in December. To do this I don't plan to follow the p90x plan exactly as its written... I'd be marathon training on top of the weight workouts. Instead of the nutrition plan, I will follow my own which is nothing out of a box or bag; everything made fresh.Since I'm gonna be out of commission the week following Cedar Point, I'd like to start on 8/20. Its late in the game but I'd still like to keep up with everyone

I learned the hard way to always wear shoes when using bands, the bands will roll off your heel and snap you in the neck, wearing shoes is more stable and will not give or sweat. I have done it with the black and green band, not fun!

Most workouts last 50-65 minutes with the exception of yoga, the cool thing about P90x workouts is the ability to pause and skip, I will skip the dvd to the next move when Im finished opposed to waiting for Tony and the gang, this will save almost 20 minutes for me as most workouts will run through all moves at least twice. Its hard to shorten Abripper, it lasts about 12 minutes and is done 3x a week. I suggest going online and making copies of the workout sheets and print them out to keep track, it take about 2 seconds when working out and really helps keep track of weights and bands.(P90x Worksheets)

Ok I've adjusted my schedule and will be doing P90X for the first time...starting today...I'm coming from an Olympic lifting background....I'm doing the lean version...I have always been a critic of the P90X program ( coming from a strength training background) ...but whats the best way to test out a product than to run the 90 day program yourself. I have seen the results and damn...I want some too... I will post pictures tomorrow

NAME: Amanda / LSU25
STORY: I was a college strength and conditioning coach after completing my career as a track athlete. I have been doing triathlon for 2 years. I am moving up to the half-iron distance this year. I just had my first son 4 months ago and took the entire time off from training/ working out.
FAMILY STATUS: Married, 1 son ( 4 months old and 2 fur babies)
CURRENT TRAINING: Base building with a few running races thrown in to keep me on my toes, nothing longer than a 10k till my half mary in December.
2010 RACES/Activities:  I've only done two races....I did a sprint Tri in July and won my age group on 2 months of training, and ran 1-5K....I have a few more 5k's and random running races thrown in which will take me through the new year.
CURRENT WEIGHT: 164.2  as of this morning.
% BODY FAT: No clue...I would estimate mid-20's, I'm going to go up to school tomorrow to get it done
GOALS: I want to get down to 150-152lbs and hover around 16-18%...before I got pregnant I was 154 and 17% bf and would love to get back there by the time I start specific training for New Orleans 70.3 in December.

ETA: I forgot to add....my plan is to go into 2011 faster, leaner and lighter than I have ever been before...some goals are a Sub 21:00 5K , a sub 5:30 Half Ironman which I know will / is going to be tough .....and just generally have a successful season before we start trying for baby #2.....which I've already made a promise to myself I will continue to workout while pregnant this time around and not just sit around eating my double whoopers haha

Hey folks, I'm in.  I've actually already started my round, but took a couple days off (Fri and Sat) because of orientation stuff for school.  I'm doing the classic version.  I have to do some modifications because of some lower back issues (3 bulging discs), but otherwise, I'm stoked to be reactivating my activity.

And yes, you will be super sore.  I've done Chest/Back, Kenpo (sub for Plyo...no jumping for me) and Shoulder/Arms.  Oh, boy, trying to lift my arms was comical.

If anyone wants a really nifty P90X excel workbook that has awesome tracking tools, let me know.

NAME:
Peggy/maggyruth
STORY: I have 2 seasons of tris under my belt, but haven't done any in the past 2 years due to either injury or time constraints.  I've been overweight/obese for as long as I can remember, though I'm currently weighing less than I did in high school (between 75-80 lbs down from my highest weight.)  I want to get back into tri-training again, but just haven't had the motivation to do so.
FAMILY STATUS: Newlywed (this past May!) with 2 fur babies.  I've also been transplanted from Midwest to the East Coast.
CURRENT TRAINING:I've been primarily doing pilates and strength training for the past few years.  The recent discovery of the bulging discs in my back (discovered after I developed debilitating pain) equaled no working out (hard enough to sit) for about 4 weeks.
2010 RACES/Activities:  No races, getting married and moving was enough for me
CURRENT WEIGHT: 250.2.  That's 77.8 lbs down from my highest, but 16.8 up from my lowest.
% BODY FAT: um, I'm going to pass on putting that down..it's just depressing.
GOALS: I'm in a challenge in the YouTube weightloss community, and I have a goal of fitting into a particular t-shirt by Halloween.  I'm also shooting for 238.0 (90 lbs) by Halloween.

Like I said, I already have  a few days under my belt, but I think that will be ok.  I'm also starting school this Wednesday, so it's going to be a scheduling challenge on my part, but hey, I'm here to make it work.

Off to do Yoga-X (be prepared for a lot of chatarungas...oh, the triceps be killin'!)

Hey folks, count me in.  I ordered my DVD about a week ago from ebay and am waiting to get it.  Hopefully any day now.

NAME: Deb/DebTri

STORY: I spend 8 months of the year in Marco Island Florida and 4 months in Ocean County NJ.  I'm brand new to the triathlon world.  Got talked into doing the Miami Nice Sprint Tri (which was today) with a group of friends.  I've been swimming and biking regularly, but never ran until about three months ago.  As of today I've done 3 sprints and am hooked.  My running is the worst, but I'm not giving up!!!!  I've never had a weight issue, but I would like to tone up and take off about 10 pounds.
.
FAMILY STATUS: I'm 49 years old and married almost 28 years with two grown children.

CURRENT TRAINING: I workout with a masters swim team three days a week.  Spin any where from 4-5 days a week.  Usually long bike ride on weekends.  I'm planning on starting a HM training plan next week.  I need to improve my run, so I'll be concentrating on that over next few months. I was recently diagonosed with exercise induced asthma (they think).  Not sure how that will effect current plans.

2010 RACES/Activities:  3 sprints down.  Considering doing Tri in Key West in December.  60 Mile bike ride in November.

CURRENT WEIGHT: Today I'm 146, but that's after the race. Usually about 149.

% BODY FAT: Embarrassed to say about 29%.  My legs are great, but that belly/hip fat... not so great!

GOALS: I would like to get down to 140 pounds and stay there for more than a day.  I want to be leaner.

In previous thread someone mentioned the "lean" version vs "classic".  Are these just different workouts, or are there different DVDs?  Not sure what I ordered.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and making some healthy changes!

These are just different ways of using the program.  They both involve all the same DVDs, so you'll be fine.  The lean one has more cardio workouts than the classic does.  The info you get with the discs should explain everything for you.

I have a question for the group on the best way to measure body fat.  I have the Tanita scale, not the one with the "athlete" setting.  I have read that the body fat measurement isn't all that accurate.  Is there any truth to that?  Are there more reliable methods you can do at home?

Someone else will probably have a better answer than me... but when I take my BF measurement, I use a tape measure and use a calculation I found online. Obviously there are far better ways to get it done somewhere, but I'm not aware of somewhere that i could get such tests done locally.

Excited that every one is either getting started or about to start. I'm 2 weeks from the start of my program, but went through 62 days of the program earlier this year.

For the people that don't yet know what they're in for - expect the first 2 weeks to be really sore. After the first 3 days of doing this in January, it was a challenge to lift my arms above my head. The soreness went away about midway through the 2nd week though.

During my first round of P90x (which I did not complete), I noticed a significant increase in strength and flexibility, but did not see much weight loss. The diet is kind of brutal - I didn't eat eggs for 2 months after I stopped the program.

Welcome to the group Peggy, Deb and Amanda.

I am dreading the soreness. I am know I am going to be super sore. I just have to get through it.

Also, I am using the BF on my scale just to give an idea of the fat loss I might lose. I hope I lose. I think I can do the diet. I am going to give it my all. I am living by the 80% rule. I have been doing the diet on and off for a week. Husband is on board so that will help.
