Some friends of mine & I did Muncie in '09 & we all stayed right in Muncie.  My family stayed at the Hampton Inn & my friends stayed at the Holiday Inn, I believe.  It is close to the expo/packet pickup convention center (unless this has changed) and probably a 25 (ish) minute drive to the Reservoir in the morning.  I'm not sure how much closer you can get.  The race itself is smack in the middle of nowhere.  I was happy staying there and will probably stay there again this year.  We were in walking distance of a grocery store and a couple restaraunts, too; which came in handy.

For those with Hotel questions here is a list of those in Muncie.  Keep in mind that all of the hotels are on the North-West side of town and will require 25-30 minutes to drive to the race.  I live in Muncie and have done the sprint and several other races at PCR and love the roads and the little traffic there are on them.

Hampton Inn
Holiday Inn
Signiture Inn
Best Western
Days Inn
Lees Inn

Oops, just realized that you may be looking for a list of "PRO's" competing at Muncie.  Not sure if they are on that list or not

All:
Let me know if I can help in any way. We live on the course and have done Muncie 7 times since 1994 as well as the RD in 1996, 2000-2002. I just might jump in the sprint this year for fun!

Hi everyone..Muncie 70.3 like many of you it sounds will be my first HIM as well.  I live in Fishers, is it worth getting a hotel or should I stay at home and drive up that morning?? Sounds like the hotels are not that much farther than what I would be driving (about 40-45 from Fishers to Muncie).

It might be worth your while to book a hotel.  There is no race day check in.  You'll need to pick up your race packet on Thursday or Friday.  There is also an athlete race briefing that you'll want to attend on Friday evening.  You can find the schedule of events, as well as a lot of other good info, on the Muncie 70.3 website.

We are considering camping - any leads on good campgrounds near the race?

I would stay home but plan on arriving at the race very early! Traffic is always tight since there is only one road in front of the entrance into the parking lot.

The are also cabins on the west side of the reservoir...think its called Rosewood (?).  Also Harris Chapel always opens their church to athletes to sleep on their floor the night before.

The park campground mentioned by stomboni is called Prairie Creek Reservoir and they'll take reservations over the phone (no internet reservations). I've stayed there 3 times last year for the Endurathon and a couple Muncie Multisport events. They have mostly seasonal campers but they have some day rental sites with electric (30 amp only) and water. They also have tent sites without electric. No full hook ups, but they have a dumpstation. There's one dated bath/shower house. If you go to rvparkreviews.com website and look under Indiana and then Selma (the official location of the Reservoir), you'll see a review of the campground. The office folks will fax you over a copy of the campground map so you can pick a site. The location is perfect for a race base but I'd never go there just to "camp".

From someone in the know, can we get a better discription of the bike and run courses?
Flat-ish bike?
Hilly-ish run?
thx.

I'm not sure when/if this race closes out.  I had friends sign up late June in '09.  That could change since it is officially a 70.3 event now.

Bike ~ flat, fast, closed out and back course with good roads from what I can remember.

Run ~ rolling hills throughout, also an out and back course.

I have heard that Muncie is 50/50 on being wetsuit legal.  So, I guess that means the temp is right around 78 degrees.  It was wetsuit legal when I raced in '09.

2010 it wasn't wetsuit legal.  It's always close on way or the other.

Just registered for this race, will be my first 70.3, also doing IMLOU this year. My best friend is from Muncie (she lives with us here in GA) so I will have a lot of support from her family and a place to stay, I'm so pumped up for this race.

The Cube - 2011-02-09 9:37 AM From someone in the know, can we get a better discription of the bike and run courses? Flat-ish bike? Hilly-ish run? thx.

BEFORE WTC took over, the bike course was completely closed off to traffic (We will see if it is this year). Pancake flat for the first 20 miles, one small small hill this was where there was a river or creek. I honestly only remember coming out of aero to get water and turn.

The run had rollers that were manageable However there was not a whole lot of shade. It was pretty warm last year. This is the elevation from my garmin.

Wow, Jillian - I just watched your video from your blog. What an amazing transformation! Congrats on what you've accomplished so far. Good luck as you tackle the 70.3 and then 140.6. Cool, cool!
