I have a HM on Feb 6th that I'm currently training for and am looking to drop my PR 2 minutes, sure would love to have a group to 'get my arse out the door'!  After that its Jorge's cycling plan and some sort of swim training plan to get ready for a very competivite Sprint on June 5th.

Bama, Lostsheep, and I are pretty good swimmers.  We can help here.

I hope I am not out of my league in this group but here it goes

I am a 32 year old mom of 3 (5, 4 and 18 months) and have been married for 10 years. This week is my first week home as a full time stay at home mom. I have worked as a Registered Dietitian for 10 years at a critical care hospital here in Indianapolis.

I have never done any sort of training for a tri. My sister has done an ironman and has caught the "bug" to keep going. It has rubbed off on me so I am going to train for the tri (olympic) in Cincinnati in July. I am also thinking about doing a Sprint in Kokomo, IN in June--not sure about that one.

I have always been fairly athletic and feel I can do this, but honestly I have no idea what I am doing. I work out 3-4 times a week (I am 5'5", 127# and this is the best shape I have been in) but typically just do free weights and a little cardio. I haven't done a lap in the pool in at least 10 years. Are floaties allowed...lol.

I will take any suggestions, any advice, any motivation available. I didn't know where to start but found some programs available on here...is that the best way to get started? I just have no idea what I am doing but I know I can do it!!

Thanks for the support!!

Leslie

Hey all!
I'm a soon to be 46er, 5'10" 170lbs, with two growing kids 11 (son) and 9 (daughter) who are on swim teams, and my wife of 14 years who loves to run and WO at the Y.  Training is a family affair these days. My son did a kids tri when he was 8 and wants to do more of them.

I've been hanging out on BT since 2004 and still very much a "beginner", I'm always learning something about training and my body's response to it.  I've used the training logs regularly since late 2005/2006 when I realized it was important if I were to do a HIM in '06 and have race reports for all my races.

As I stated previously, I have a HM on Feb 6th, A-race, it'll be my 3rd HM and same one I did last year when it was my 1st.  I've been run focus training in the FL running season (tri off-season) now for 3 years and the fitness gained from it has been great.  Earlier this year I was dealing with calf injuries and decided to take some time to heal and not do anything focused after teh June Sprint.  It was tough starting again with three 2 mile runs per week but it came back relatively quick and had a good Sprint race in early Oct and a solid C-race HM a month ago.  November was my first ever 100 mile running month and Dec will be the 2nd.

This past year I split Jorge's V2 bike training plan in two, doing them before the two local sprints I've been doing since 04 did and set bike leg PR's by 1.5 and 1.9 mph.  That program works the heck out of you but is sooooo worth it.  It was the first time I have ever done a focused CP plan like that.  I developed a spreadsheet to use the Kurt Kinetics MPH to wattage so I could use power training on the trainer as the HR and RPE on the trainer was not doing it for me.

Now for the swim, I love to swim but hate getting to the water.  Of the 33.5k yards last year and 30k yards this year, 90-95% have been done in my backyard pool that's only 10 yard long Tongue out!  When I did the HIM in 06 and another long course in 07 (1.5x Oly distances) I did more but not nearly enough.  This year I have promised myself to take the swim serious, I have even bought my first pair of jammers!  With the lack of swim training I'm usually upper BOP, so if I can get into the mid-upper portion of the MOP in swimming I'll have a serious shot to get in the top 10 at the next Sprint race.  This race is very AG competitive with racers from all around FL coming to race it.  I will be asking for assistance on this as we go.  I know I need to get started now to be able to build up my yardage without my shoulders having issues.

Looking forward to hanging with the group, game on...

That's crazy!

I love to swim and don't mind the 4000+ yrd (upwards of 6000yrds straight in March-May) straight swims in a 25yrd pool, but a 10yrd pool and I think I'd have to be admitted to a psych ward!

Story:
In high school running was my post school stress relief - run 1mi at puke pace and call it good. Didn't seem to bother me and I loved it. I carried it into college and kept going a bit.

I was running 3mi at a time, about 4x per week and on the Crew team. I got my butt whipped on numerous occasions but loved it. I was fighting to get my weight up for the 165# boat. I was lean and in shape...then I graduated college and started the real world.

I got married (2006) weighing in at 200#. I figured running 2-3x per week for 2-3mi was enough to stay healthy, but it wasn't.

Went in for a basic physical and was alerted with high cholesterol, blood pressure, and just lazyness. Figured I'd get my butt in gear.

In 2008 - Did a couple of 5k's, and a 10k and realized running wasn't so bad, but it was only helping a little with the weight. I needed more.

In 2009 I upped the annie. Always loved swimming and swimming distances so I joined the Y's masters swim class. Little did I know the coach was a Tri coach as well and half of his pupils were there in the class. They took me in and showed me the dark side. I went to some of the cycling classes and figured it can't be all that hard to do what they do and do a tri. And then it began.

I completed 2-5ks, 2-sprint tris, and a 10k. The weight was coming off and I was happy. I was logging miles on the bike and felt great. I joined a local running group and started prepping for what was going to be a good future in running.

In 2010 - 1-10mi, 1-half marathon, 2-10k's, 2-5k's, 1 sprint tri, 2-olympics. I've finally gotten back down to my Crew weight of 165 and keep fluctuating between 159-165. I'd love to get down into the 150s and get my leaness back.

Family:
Been married for 4yrs and have 1 daughter (6mo). She was an equestrian competitor through her high school and into college days. Running (5-10ks) was her comfort zone.

Focus for 2011:
Sub 1:45 half marathon; First Half Ironman;

Races for 2011:
Red Nose 10mi, Mercedes Half Marathon, Talladega Half Marathon, Ride of Love (150mi charity ride), Pensacola 5k Swim (DNS 2010 so I need some revenge), Buster Britton Sprint, Rocketman Olympic, Augusta Half Ironman, Montgomery Half Marathon.

I'm ready!

guys add me again for round 3 to the group again.  I started training again consistently since my IM in November.  I am about 20 weeks out from HIM Disney.  I have not signed up for Augusta 70.3 but I hope the group is still wanting to do it.  I see a member from Melbourne on here which is not far from Clermont/Oakland Florida where I reside.  I think I may know him from a couple of other BTers from the Melbourne area - shallowsalter, and tocan.  Any way looking foward to training consistently again.

Hey Brian, I know your name from toucan and shallowsaltwater, don't think we have physically crossed paths yet, maybe someday! Once the HM gets over and I start bike training again I want to head back over to Clermont for some awesome riding, it's been awhile.

To introduce myself to everyone:

Name: Jason / 35

Background:  Was reading thru an article in a magazine in June 2009, discussing triathlons and decided I would give it a tri.  I had been running, basically doing 5k's and trying to run 2-3x week for 3-4 miles and not doing very well at it.  Signed up for masters swim at the local Y, got a bike and started riding, and continued running to train.  Like Sheep, my health was getting away from me, went from 220 to 190.  In August 2009 I did a "Try it on Tri" and did a sprint in October 2009.  Didn't do much after my October 2009 tri, started back training in Feb 2010.  Completed a couple of 5k's this year, a 10k, 2 sprints and an OLY in August this year.  Did my first HM December 4th.

BT since 2009.

Strong leg:  none.  swim and bike are about equal, but neither very good.

Limiter: Running by far, which is why i'm run focused this fall/winter season.

Family:  Married for almost 10 years.  My wife is a Nurse Practitioner, trying to get into running, but had a run in with a lego and the lego won.  I've got her swimming and riding her bike on a trainer, but can't get her to do a tri yet.  Maybe one day.  And the reason we have lego's around, we have 2 boys (Age 5 and 4).

2010 Races:
March - Rumpshaker 5k (29:41 PR)
May - Memphis in May Sprint Triathlon (B) 1:28:01
June - Grandman Triathlon (B) 1:48:37
Aug - Rocketman Triathlon (Intermediate) (A) 3:10:50
Sept - Camp Smile a Mile 5k (29:22 PR)
Oct - Race for the Cure (29:23)

Nov - Vulcan 10k (A) (59:36 PR)
Dec - St. Jude 1/2 Marathon - Memphis (2:24:00 PR)

2011 plan:

January - Red Nose Run - 10 Mi
March - Atlanta Half Marathon
May - Memphis in May (Sprint or OLY)
June - Grandman or Buster Britton
July - ???  Maybe Nashville or Chatanooga OLY
August - Rocketman OLY (maybe Mountain Lakes)
September - Augusta 70.3

I'm planning on starting Jorges Cycling plan first week of January, as the last two weeks have been way to busy to get started.

I guess I should reintroduce myself:

Jacques - 39

Background: Back at the end of '08 I weighed in at 215 and hated it.  Bought a mountain bike and lost 45 lbs over 5 months.  Found out I was better at bouncing off of trees than MTB, so decided to try something else.  I used to be a swimmer, so I picked that back up and started running.  Even after a 20 year swim layoff it came back pretty well; the running was more of a challenge.  This last year was a good one for tris.  And I managed to complete a 3.3 mile swim in under 1:30 - the best achievement I have had in a long time.

So I can swim, and biking has come pretty well.  Just don't ask me to run.  Trying to fix that (again) over the winter.  Trying to get a half marathon done in under 1:37 in a month or so here.

2011 goals:
Sub 1:37 HM
Sub 1 hour 40k TT
Sub 1:25 3.3 mile swim

A Dietician. Thats awesome!! I need your help.

Here's a little info on me:

35 years old, maried with 3 kids, 5, 3 and 16 months. I to, am on my 3rd go round with this group. They've seen me through my 1st year of tri trianing and racing. 2010 was my 1st full year. I went from my 1st sprint in March, to Full Ironman in November. I completed Augusta 70.3 as my 1st half and Beach 2 Battleship Full.
For 2011, I'm registered for New Orleans 70.3 in April, and plan on another summer half, and a fall half as well. I still consider myself a beginner, but I've come a long way in the past 18 months. Right now, I'm 3 weeks into Jorge's cycling program, and my HIM program actually started this week. My short term goals are to drop the 8 lbs I've put on since B2B, and go into NOLA at about 165 or lighter. I hope to go 5:30  or below, but that may be tough. I went 5:28 at Augusta and 13:28 at B2B.
Glad we are getting some fresh blood in the group!

All right Alabama guys.  I just signed up for Mercedes, Buster Britton, Mountain Lakes, and Rocketman.  I'll plan on joining the crowd up there in August.  Probably bring the family up there and bring the kids to go see real rockets after.

BTW, if anyone wants a discount code to use with Team Magic, use 2011dateswap?maybe/maybenot   or    ACT_prs120092

$10 off and as far as I know it doesn't expire.
