ESI Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official Thread (Page 2)

Hi all,

I just signed up for Augusta as my first HIM.  Right now I am thinking that I am crazy!  Quick question - has anyone stayed anywhere downtown so that we would not have to drive in for on race morning?  Some place that still has rooms available?  It doesn't even have to be nice, just close!!!

The 2 downtown are sold out. Anything off washington? rd and 20 are really pretty close. I stayed LQ one year and courtyard last. Niether is fancy but not much in Augusta is. Both were clean near alot of food and 10-15 min drive to race site.

We made reservations at the Best Western on Center West Pkwy. $65 a nite.

Lucky!!!  I've called a few times with no luck, and there is supposed to be a waiting list (of which I'm on).  Just called again, and still nothing available, she said there were over 100 names on the waiting list.

I'm reserved at the Partridge Inn, which is about 2 miles away from the race site.  Did anyone stay there last year?  I know nothing about Augusta.

I stayed at the Best Western the past two years.  I staying there again this year.  Very convenient to everything.  There is a parking lot (open field) next to the Marriott (left side) that was free last year.  We had to pay $10 the year before. 

Somehow I ended up with a Suite last year (still just $65). Nice surprise! Not sure if this is true but the women at the desk told me that the guy who won the first year stayed at the Best Western that year.

I just made a reservation at the Quality Inn Medical Center.  Anybody stay there or know anything about the area?  I was surprised that they still had rooms and that they were so cheap.  I don't know if I should be worried or happy?

I was also wondering about the wave starts.  Have they stayed the same?  If so, does anybody know what they were last year?

I am getting more excited and more nervous!!

Hope everyones training is going well.  Just completed 14 hour week with 4 runs, 3 bikes, and 3 swims.  My long bike was 65 miles last week and long run was 7.5.   Working on a slow build on the run so I get to the race injury free.  Did the race last year and my knee was messed up.  So far no issues with the knee.

How is your training going?

QI is not too bad, but you cant walk to anything except McDonalds. You are close to DT!

There is a new Sheraton off Washington Rd and I-20 that looks nice. 

Gah!  I just realized there are 2 threads for this race, and I think I was following the wrong one.

HI!!!  I signed up for this last week after a little peer pressure from some work guys.  I wrapped up IMCdA a couple of weeks ago, and this will be a pit stop on the way to IMAZ in November.  I'm coming from the Pacific NW, so it will definitely be a change in scenery for me.  All of my HIMs have been on hilly courses, and while this one isn't flat, there's no reason I couldn't knock out a PR.  I'll set some goals once I get out of recovery mode.

Hi All,

Completed the Englewood Sprint today.  Always a great race.  Swim in the gulf with an nice bike along them water.  Swim and bike a lot better this year but run was just a little better.  Sprint in July in South Florida does not make for a good run

Nothing until September for me.

Signed up a few weeks ago, excited and very anxious to make my transition to long(er) course races. By the time race day comes around I will have completed 3 Sprint Tri's, and an Olympic (exactly one month before Augusta). 

Also ran into the same problem of not being able to find lodging downtown. Will be staying out near the highway. 

Any idea on if there is an informational 'e-packet' before race day or is all the information on the website?

Looking forward to the swim, I am a strong swimmer, and look forward to competing in a wetsuit-legal race. Bike course looks great, and the run-course (which is why I chose this race for my first HIM) will be great for my friends and family to see me.

Looking at your "to do" races and it seems we will see each other quite a bit.  I'm in for the BOK Tower ride, (just the Century on Sunday), IM Augusta, IMFL then 70.3 Florida in 2012.

Hi all,

My training was going great for the race, until I got sidetracked on Sunday by a bike crash.  Bike is okay, road rash is oozing, and collar bone is killing me (but supposedly not broken).  Training is on hold for the week, so please share with me how your training is going.  I would love to live vicariously through all of you!!

Sorry to hear about your crash, hopefully you will be up and running again soon.

It's going.  Got my hard ride in yesterday with a run off.  Swimming planned for today.  Lots of work ahead through Saturday morning, then starts another week of build and my first tri in almost 3 months next Saturday.
