Happy Birthday, America! Got through my 50-miler today surprisingly well. I was anticipating a slower avg. speed and lots more during- and post-ride muscle fatigue and pain, but I'm feeling pretty dang good if I do say so myself! Time for a well-deserved nap before heading to the pool with the fam

Keep this up and you'll have to increase your stages/mileage - you're already at 40%!

I'm going to reevaluate after this weekend.  Really thought I would have zero miles for the July 4 weekend.  How long do we have to make adjustments to our goals?

Ciao, i miei amici!

Happy to be on the team. I'll post my distances later today once I get home and look at my HIM training plan. I'm doing two rides a week of between 25-60 miles for the duration of July, so it should be something like 100 miles over the next three weeks.

- - - SPREADSHEET SHORTCUT - - -

Because I am too lazy to spend two minutes each day figuring out the cumulative miles and stages, I spent 2-3 hours and added a sheet to the spreadsheet so that Excel Google will do the figuring out for me.

If you too want to be lazy efficient, it's really simple:

IMPORTANT - if you've already put in numbers for miles and stages, be sure to write them down before starting to copy/paste so you can reenter them in the "Enter Mileage Daily" sheet.

Here's how to do it:

A - Ask me to convert your cells in Sheet1,

or,

B - Copy/paste the formulas in cells E7/F7/G7 and I7/J7/K7 and M7/N7/O7 to your row.  Example for MechEchick:

Left click (normal click) on cell E7 and don't let go of the mouse button.
While holding mouse button down, move the mouse to the right so that cells E7, F7, & G7 are all highlighted.
Let go of the mouse button
Ctrl-C (copy).
Highlight cell E10.
Ctrl-V (paste).
Repeat for weeks two and three.

Now when you finish riding, just click the tab named "Enter Mileage Daily" (near the lower left of the spreadsheet) and put your miles in the correct cell.  In the event you do two stages in a day there's a second set of lines (rows 15-21) below the first area. Once you enter mileage, go back to Sheet1 to see your total stages and miles/hours/KM.

I've already done it for MechEchick, if she doesn't want to use this system just overwrite the cells in row 10 with your numbers.

And I've conveniently added a link to each day's results at the top of the sheet named "Enter Mileage Daily" sheet.  Just click the stage name then click the link that hovers up.

Increasing goal is good... you can do it anytime...and is encouraged!

Decreasing goal then just check in and let me know and we will work it out.

Hate when that happens! =)

Going to go easy today, maybe I can hook the kid trailer up to the bike and talk my wife into letting us all go out for ice cream after dinner!

I did an easy 12 with my foster kid - it was so funny I was telling him how Jay-Z is one of the Forbes 400 now and what that means, and I got on the topic of how he's still making loads of money even though he doesn't make music much anymore. The instant I stopped talking he fell way back, and I thought he was going to walk up the incline we were on. I dropped it into the granny gear and waited for him. When he caught up I said, "Are you dying?" and he said, "I didn't want to fall back while you were talking, so when you were done I said "Thank goodness, I can slow down!" " - hahaha!

25 miles done this AM, it feels great to get a 6am ride in and be done for the day.

I've switched more to bike racing this year than tri's so I have to get out with these guys as much as humanly possible.

They rip my legs off the majority of the time but it was nice this morning to be able to hang for the whole ride.

Have a great day everyone

Also, post more, we're way behind Dee's group, can't have that.  just post about anything or nothing at all, that's what she does ; )

I hear ya on the morning rides having the whole day to do whatever - doesn't work for me though because I'm just not a morning person! haha

I've become WAY bike-focused since I got signed up to do RAGBRAI, and I've really been toying with the idea of trying my hand at a crit in the future, once my achilles gives me the go-ahead to really stomp down with serious force. I did a time trial about two weeks ago when I wasn't really in time trial shape, but I talked the foster kid into going with me and he ended up becoming the de facto state champion in the 10-14 age group, since the kid who beat him was from Iowa! So that was kinda cool. There's a place in Lincoln called Champions Fun Center where he wanted to go for his birthday gift from us and I talked him into waiting a week so we could do the TT and on the way back home from the TT I turned to him and said, "See, if you had gone to Champions today, you wouldn't be a champion today!"

What's everyone's excuse for doing the TdF challenge? I figured it would keep me on track to average 25 miles per ride as part of my regularly scheduled RAGBRAI training, since I knew I would do at least 12 rides between the start of the challenge and the start of RAGBRAI which just so happens to start the last day of the TdF challenge!

I did the "Run Every Day in the Month of May" thing and it really improved my running.  I figure this is the closest thing for bicycles and it sounded like fun.
