Pro 4578 Vancouver, BC | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad Yeah, I've used the TrainerMic, but I've used it in my workout room where there is no internet access, so I haven't been able to race anyone online. I however has created programs from my coach. I did a test and then she gave me a bunch of workouts based on that test (she has TrainerMic too) and I uploaded them and reuse them. It works great and is fairly cheap. Anyone, let me know if you get one and when I workout with internet access, maybe we can go head to head sometime. |

Just fixing some bugs on it. I did a test ride yesterday with it and it did the whole ride and uploaded it to the site. I'll be doing a real 60 min ride this weekend with it. 25% of the visitors to http://www.TrainerRoad.comuse macs, so it's a high priority to use. -Nate [email protected] http://www.TrainerRoad.com |

Member 194 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad Yes, I use the GSC 10 and it works great! Somethings to try: Make sure the battery is good. The older the battery, the smaller the the ANT+ field. You will get a better signal if the ANT+ stick doesn't have any obstructions. So don't put it in the back of a desktop computer. It does go pretty far though. I can get 15 or so feet off of a HR strap with a new battery. If you need to go farther you can use a USB extension cable. If you're still having problems, e-mail me at [email protected] (creates a ticket) and I'll get you going. -Nate [email protected] http://www.TrainerRoad.com |

Why are there some Garmin ANT+ sticks being sold at half the cost of new ones on ebay? There are two types of ANT USB sticks. ANT1 and ANT2. ANT2 gives you a few less drop outs (not really noticeable) and supports 8 ANT channels compared to 4 that the ANT1 gives you. Garmin.com sells the ANT2. Every where else seems to sell the ANT1. We use the ANT1 in all of our testing and it works great. The ANT2 is about twice as much as the ANT1. The ANT1 isn't being produced anymore. Hopefully the ANT2 will come down in price to match what the ANT1 is today. -Nate [email protected] http://www.TrainerRoad.com |

(i.e., how does the computer know what my bike is doing) Thanks, JC You need an ANT+ USB Stick like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-010-10999-00-USB-Ant-Stick/dp/B000UO9K... Then either a ANT+ Speed sensor and/or an ANT+ Heart Rate Strap. It also works with ANT+ power meters (but those aren't required). If you sign up for the beta (free) you will get instructions and links to all the stuff you need. With the ANT+ USB stick we read from the ANT+ sensors that are on your bike. -Nate [email protected] http://www.TrainerRoad.com |

Member 194 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad I see that Jorge's program is a thread on BT. We'd love to add it if Jorge would let us. If you can give me contact info or permission to add it and a list of workouts we'll add it to the site. We'd give credit and links back to the original plan. We're doing something similar with sufferfest, but that's still unreleased. For adding your own workouts, that's kind of a lot of software to write. What we don't want is 100 people putting in Jorge's plan individually, and you end up with tons of workouts that are pretty much the same. That makes it harder to do competitions and compare workouts. So we want to do that, but we have some other things first. -Nate [email protected] http://www.trainerroad.com |

Member 194 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad jawgee - 2011-10-18 3:47 PM A representative (owner?) from TrainerMic.com just emailed me an quick and informative response regarding questions I have about their product. Very refreshing! From how it was explained to me, it seems like it's relatively easy to create your own workout programs (think Jorge's workout program) and it was cool to hear that you can race/train against your previous rides to see how far you've progressed in terms of power output. I have a Garmin USB ANT+ stick coming my way so that I can try out the TrainerRoad app along with a TrainerMic kit to test as well. I'll perform some tests with my KK Road Machine and write up a non-scientific review comparing the two programs. I'm a n00b when it comes to using any sort of power meter, so please don't expect anything fancy. Steve Sweet! I hadn't seen TrainerMic.com before. Let us know when you write the review, I'd be interested in hearing what you think. We have some racing plans but those all all hush hush at the moment... -Nate [email protected] http://www.trainerroad.com |

From what I've read on DC Rainmaker's site, you should be all set. The Garmin 305 is kind of a red herring as it does not even come into play with being able to user the TrainerRoad app. I have a 305 as well, so I had the same concerns as you. |

For TrainerRoad, we connect directly to your sensors, so it doesn't matter what watch you have. -Nate [email protected] http://www.trainerroad.com |

To do VirtualPower (speed to power), you would need one of our compatible trainers. We have most of the big ones though so you should be good to go. |

It will say USB1 or USB2 in the upper left corner. I think the plastic part under the metal usb port is white on the USB1 and black on the USB2. That's just from experience though, I'm not sure if it's always that way |

That's exactly right! Your computer becomes the head unit so no watch needed. You can still have your watch pick up data at the same time the computer does. You can think of your ANT sensors as little radio stations that multiple head units can tune into. Actually...they are little radio stations except they spit out hr, power, speed and cadence instead of sound . |

From what I've been reading it shouldn't matter whether it's compatible with the 305. It should read the data from the Garmin heart rate strap and cadence sensors since they are ANT+. That's how Trainer Road gets the data. |

Although, if you have just a HR strap you can still do all of the workouts based on your Lactate Threshold Heart Rate (LTHR). If you add a speed sensor we can translate speed to power which we call VirtualPower. |

8 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad Just did my first ride in last month because of this software! It's definitely an awesome tool to motivate for off-season trainer rides.
Based on my first ride, I'd like to make one suggestion: I, personally, would like to see the cadence reading directly next to the target power, rather than on the other side of the interval and total times. My reason is this: when remaining in one gear, it is much easier to focus on maintaining cadence than maintaining power (due to the exponential relationship). If cadence was directly next to power, I would be able to correlate a cadence with my target power more easily. This would be very nice. Perhaps making it so you can adjust the interface to suit your personal tastes (in terms of number location) would be nice. Other than that, it's great. Looking forward to trying out one of the training plans!
Thanks for the awesome work, TrainerRoad staff. |

Member 194 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad Thanks! Did you notice that your power was jumping around a bit? Is that why you want to see cadence right next to it? Being a smooth rider is a skill that take some time to develop. You'll have some efficiency gains (especially in triathlon) if you can keep your power constant instead of little peaks and valleys. So I don't want to do anything that will mask riding that isn't smooth. That being said...we are going to add a little data smoothing into it as an option. Probably 0, 3 or 5 second smoothing. The ONLY reason I want to do this is because of the new power meters coming out like Vector and Brim Brothers that give you data every 1/4 second throughout your stroke. It might get a little crazy if you don't smooth your data. Do you think smoothing the data might help in this situation? I still urge you not to smooth your data and learn how to really nail a power output. You'll be fresher after your ride and run better off the bike. |

Extreme Veteran 645 Media, PA | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad I just tried this out, with a non-listed trainer, a Travel Trac Fluid+. It has an adjustable resistance system, with 5 discrete settings. I looked up the KK road machine power curve, and it's pretty close to the "3" setting on mine, so I went with that. Generally I could nail the target power within a couple watts, and had a pretty good hour ride, doing the Twin Peaks ride. I'm just starting off with power-based (or VirtualPower in this case) training, but have tracked calories for a while. The summary data shows 602 kilojoules, which converts to 143 calories. This seems kind of low; most hour-long rides for me will be in the 600 calorie range. |
