Hello Ghoulies.  I was going to try and go for an activity each day, but already blew that yesterday.

RANT WARNING... Things are crazy at work.  They have announced our new hours, 44 open hours a week, keeping us at 7 days a week (WTF).  We will have staff in the building in order to get in the full time staff with their 40 hours in during 5 days.  That would be too mean to make them do a 6 day work week, for 40 hours.  Anyway, I just found out that I will be losing one of my awesome staff to another branch, and in replacement, I am getting a staff person who is on PROBATION!!!  Whose bright idea is that?  Of course they butter us up with sweet words about how my ABM and I are a strong management team.  Ha!  Stop stealing my good people.  Anyway, while the other branches only have to cover two nights a week, my staff still have to cover all 4 nights, because we have the library help line, which needs to be up and running whenever a branch is open, whether our is or not.  So, the shortened hours do not give my staff any relief.  And the person who they are taking has swapped to cover a bunch of other weekends.  I doubt their relief person will want to work the crazy swaps their first month here.  Arrgh!

RANT OVER

I'm headin' south, and I'm bringing my bat!

I found this recipe on Southernfood.com.  This Canadian recipe was posted on our forum. The popular Nanaimo bars are with vanilla pudding and chocolate

Ingredients:

 Bottom Layer:

  • 1 stick butter (1/2 c.)
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 c. chopped pecans
  • 1/2 c. coconut

Second Layer:

  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 2 c. powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp. milk
  • 2 tbsp. instant vanilla pudding mix

Third Layer:

  • 3 sq. semisweet chocolate
  • 2 tbsp. butter

Preparation:

 Bottom Layer:
Melt sugar, butter and cocoa in a double boiler. Let cool. Add egg and vanilla. Add graham cracker crumbs, nuts and coconut and mix well. Cover the bottom of an 8x8 pan with the mixture, packing it down well. Refrigerate.

Second Layer:
Cream the butter and pudding mix. Add milk and powdered sugar and beat until smooth. Spread over first layer and chill until firm.

Third Layer:
Heat to melt. If too thick, add milk. Pour chocolate over top of second layer. Refrigerate. Cut into squares.
Makes 3 dozen.

Good morning Ghoulies!

I have an appointment at the pain clinic this afternoon. I'll be grumpy tonight and tomorrow, but after that I should be mostly pain free. I waited entirely too long to make the appointment. I won't do that again.

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma -- which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuitin. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary." ~Steve Jobs 2005

Morning Ann.

Glad you are going to the pain clinic. You will be happy just in time for a Fat Frog!

BTW, the bartender couldn't make one so I still have never had one.

Robin,

You had asked about new race goals.  My friend  and I enjoyed the bridge race so much that we have picked out a 10K in May.  In that one we get to go across the top of the Grand Coulee Dam in eastern Washington.  Should be really great views!

They inject steroids into the nerve that is pinched by the stenosis in my spine. Right now I have a burning sensation that goes down the back of my leg, the whole way to my foot. There have been a few days recently that I haven't been able to lift my leg in the morning to put my sock and shoe on, my leg hurt that bad. Eventually I will need to get a procedure done that will just deaden the nerve. I don't want to do that unless absolutely necessary.
