I drove the first part of it yesterday with borsenik9 and thought it looked like it has changed since I wrote down the roads yesterday morning.  Can anyone confirm this?  My road listing isn't the same as listed tonight.  I had it listed as a crooked lollipop type ride with two loops then return, now it's totally different.

Either way we drove it from where the swim is east on Cannonsburg, Lincoln Lake north to 10 mile and across to Myers Lake where we left the course.  Lots of climbing in the first section, though it looks like it level's out a bit once your heading up a ways on Lincoln, there is some serious work to be done.

The run course did appear to be kinda of flat, though I didn't drive down 3 mile road and stayed on Grand River.

Wish I could do at least the half but other plans will prevent that from happening for the foreseeable future.  Hope I can make it out to the training ride in August.

Ended up not riding the course.  My husband's calf seized up on him on his Friday run and he had to hitch hike home.  So he is now in recovery mode for awhile.  I will let you know when I ride.  May have to make it solo depending on his prognosis.

I'm not sure what to make of the elevation.  Last year I rode in that area a few times when training for CDA.  The elevations were comparable to the Idaho course, but found out on race day that the climbs were not comparable at all.  So I was thinking that I was prepared for the climbs, but was not.  I ended up with a 14 mph average, and predicted to be 16-17, since I was able to average 19 for my HIM on a relatively flat course.   In my opinion the GR are is quite rolling and I was able to use my down hill momentum alot more.

gojogo - 2012-06-06 8:20 PM If anyone would like to join us, looks like my husband and I will be riding the course on Saturday.  Will probably be starting around 7:30-8:00.

How was the ride

I am too curious on your thoughts. I got out for a bit on Friday. I first drove the run course. Kinda winding, nothing to hilly, could be shady, two loops. I think a pretty descent run course. Hopefully they will have it coned off or something cause with all the winding roads I could see cars not seeing a runner out there.

As far as the bike course I only had time for an hour ride. I drove to the West Cannon Baptist Church on Cannonsburg to park and rode out Cannonsburg til the turn on Lincoln Lake and headed north for  a mile and then turned around and headed back.

Cannonsburg road will be great. It is in perfect shape, wide shoulder. rolling for sure but should be nice.

Hopefully next Friday I can get out and ride a ton more of it. One thing I find odd, the course maps say the total climbing for the ride is 1535 ft  over the 112. They have the climbing for the run at 512ft over the 26.2. Just what I have seen so far, the run didn't seem that hilly and the bike seemed way more hilly.

Everyones thoughts and opinions welcomed Laughing

Up to 90 people signed up so far, thought maybe after the half on Sunday that many more would jump to this one. I know the price increases $50 on Saturday so that may get a few more in today and tomorrow.

Gatorade drink. Hammer gel. We were lucky to have both companies come on board as sponsors and share the nutrition needs.

Here is what they had at the Grand Rapids Triathlon a couple weeks ago:

http://twitpic.com/9u9u6d

It was Fruit Punch flavored on the bike course. The water bottles were Aquafina with a sport top added instead of the regular screw top.

On the run course, there was both lemon lime and glacial freeze (blue) mixed powder Gatorade from packets like this (http://www.amazon.com/GATORADE-FROSTED-GLACIER-FREEZE-powder/dp/B004HMBIKS).

I can't 100% guarantee it, but my guess is that it will be the same for the Michigan Titanium.

I'll see if I can get a firm answer at our next meeting.

Thanks - would be good to get some exact info as the nutritional info varies a fair bit between the different Gatorade brand offerings.

Well I am out.  The months and months of training, not sleeping and trying to keep my eye on the big picture came to an end.  After talking with my mother last week she asked to talk to my wife.  Nothing strange about that.  I knew her heatlh was getting bad, but she told my wife not to make plans to come down at Christmas as she figures she will not make it that long.  Real cheerfull call.

So my wife hung up and started making flight plans for my daughter and myself.  The only time I have off is the race time.  The choice wsa easy to make, I hve to go to Florida.  It looks like I got a good start on next years training.  Hope you all have a good race and I will look forward to reading the race reports and comments.

Joe

78 degs is the USAT legal cut off -  so looking at the forecast i would say it would be unlikely that the water temp is going to go up a whole lot over the next 2 weeks.

Did the run course after work tonight its freshly paved in the past week. Very Smooth but hilly. The hill on 3 mile road will be a killer.
