Real tree is first option, then fake tree.  No tree is NOT an option, well except this year since I have been living in this small space in Ft Worth post-Katrina.  Usually, I end up having to go the fake tree route since I always travel home for Christmas.  Can't leave a real tree for that period, so it is fake for my home wherever it has been over the years, then a real tree at my Mom's house.

We always go for a real tree. Since we were married in 1983, I have kept inventory of each ornament - where it was purchased, the circumstances, etc. Whenever we take a trip we get something that we can put on the tree. So decorating the tree is a trip down memory lane! The whole ritual just wouldn't be the same without a real tree.

Mine are real, and they're spectacular!  (that's a phrase I'd like to hear more often!)

Real.  Always real.  My wife wants to add a fake in the living room for the "fancier" lights and ornaments.  Ok, that's what she wants, but I'm REAL REAL REAL.  The only concession I made this year is that the tree has to be small enough that I can lift it by myself so I got a 9 ft. Fraser fir.  Last year I got a twelve footer and saved the trunk piece I cut off.  It's almost a foot in diameter.  I loved that tree!  The bottom branches of the tree spanned almost 7 feet.  It was gi-normous.

Oh, and we have a FANTASTIC vacuum cleaner.

Real. Of course it'll be dead soon if my cat keeps getting into the tree-water. I don't know how she manages it - I wrap the base with a blanket and cover the blanket with presents, but somehow she always finds a way to drink that thing dry while I'm at work.

I do the same thing. When we go to the tree farm to get our tree, I try to find a flat ornament in their gift shop that I can write on the back of to chronicle all the years we've gone there with the kids. I usually write what kind of tree and how tall, how the weather was, how the kids were and their ages, or if something unusual happened. It's great to pull them out each year. It will be a fun thing to hand down.

I'll sure be thinking of you and all the other Katrina survivors this Christmas. I hope you're hanging in there! God bless!

Only real trees in my house.  I think I'd get killed by my dad if we ever got a fake tree.

We always get a Fraser Fir - the Ferrari of Christmas Trees.  Smells great and will stay fresh for about 5 weeks.  Of course, a 7' tree cost me $60.

Totally agree about Frasers.  I don't know about near you, but I go to Home Depot (don't laugh til you see the price) and get a 9 footer for 49 bucks.  Last year my 12 footer was only 59 bucks.  Best deal in town and their good looking trees.  Beats the hell out of going to a tree farm to cut one down and pay $80+ just to freeze my tushy off!  I'd rather do that when I'm running.

Fake - why cut down a living tree? There are some good artificial ones out there now which don't cost an arm and a leg. If you still want the smell then get some clippings from a bush and place them in some foam (to keep them moist) on a table nearby.

Yes our artificial Christmas tree looses some of it's needles as well but at least they stick to the carpet with sap....

Funny, hangloose.  My MIL always gets Frasers, always gets them from Home Depot, AND also lives in Crystal Lake, IL.  Coincidence?  I think not.  I need to get my arse to Home Depot next year when tree time rolls around.

Just bought a pre lit 7.5ft tree its awesome. Took no time to put up and my mom gave me plenty of ornaments so my first real tree in my new house reminds me of my younger days.

Whoa!  Dude, we're like practically related.  If you ever come to visit her let me know, maybe we'll do a run or something.
