marmadaddy - 2006-01-31 1:59 PM Congrats! Where are you registering? TriSports? Nashbar? Performance?

Elope, church wedding, Vegas, Mexico, your basement, whatever...... what you should be doing is taking Marma's advice. Think of all the neat stuff you'll have when you do that race  ahhemm I mean honeymoon at the place where there's just happening to be a race.

WHoo Hoo! Congratulations! We started planning a big wedding, and then ended up going to Jamaica and got married on the beach. Very beautiful, loved it. Enjoy it!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone!! Actually my "dream" wedding is to elope to vegas. After seeing many friends and family freak out for months at a time about the big day, I want Vegas!! Of course my fiance has NO problems with that!! We're not telling friends and fam the plans, we dont want any input and start to feel guilty. We'll have some sort of reception later though, so the families can meet and we can get $ Good ideas on planning it where a cool race is though... hmmmmm....

Congrats! Have you set a date yet?? I know it's early, but how fun!

My wedding is coming up in July and I was just imploring my hubby to be to elope... alas, he would not agree.. i loved wedding planning when it was just us and bunch of fun ideas.. then his family (read: mother) got involved *eye rolling..* and it got a lot less fun! HOWEVER.. . the wedding is the least significant thing in the grand scheme.. more importantly you are with someone who love and respects you and who you will spend your life with - that is WAY more important !!

msgatita is also engaged so perhaps we could start a support group

I am all for a support group!  And good for you guys for running off to Vegas.  That is awesome.

I beg my fiance nightly to just elope.  Unfortunately I don't think I have convinced him that I am not kidding. You're right that the abstract is fun, the details, not so much.

Ok I have to chime in.

 1) CONGRATS! Weddings are totally aweseome, any kind. I watch them when I'm on beach vacations. I love weddings.

2) Planning anything big can be a bit stressful in the moment, but it'll be worth it! Looking back, I would do it exactly the same way all over again. (or maybe, my family in not as nutty as everyone elses, but I dont' believe that... I could tell some stories).

One thing I will say about eloping...while I don't regret it and it was great for my DH and I, almost 10 years later my parents are still mad at us about it. My dad didn't get to walk either of his daughters down the aisle as my sister got married on the sly too. Eloping was right for my husband and I because neither of us ever thought we'd get married, ( I was all about career) and I was never one of those girls that dreamed of planning a big wedding and being a princess for a day. Plus, we are both super careful with money (not cheap) and we wanted to buy a house right away instead. (Which we did and still live in!) But my parents were hurt, and that part I do regret. We could have handled it differently. My husband and I are planning to re-new our vows for our 10 year anniversary to hopefully try and make up for what they missed. But whatever you do, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

That's so great! I've been married for a little under a year now. I have never looked back. It has been a great experience. Just make sure that you guys have tons of fun while you're planning the wedding, that can be a pretty stressful occasion!
