At Last (Etta James - of course, duh!)

You know, I was actually thinking of that exact song. I love it. But, come on, I'm twenty-freakin'-five. I don't think it's been a particularly long wait for me to find the man of my dreams.

LOL - it was our first dance at our wedding. Not a dry eye in the house. Then again, we were both over 40 and our friends were just in shocked that "at last" we'd each found someone to put up with each other. :D

"The way you look tonight"...Sinatra's "Fly me to the moon" to be a great wedding song.

We used those, too. Great fun!

This is a great song. Don't be confused by the title - it really is perfect for a wedding. I'll send the mp3 to you if you like.

Wedding Song, by Tracy Chapman

I’ve been having dreams and visions
In them you are always standing
Right beside me
I reach out for your hand
To see your arms extending
Outstretched towards me

For you I don the veil
By your light
Others pale by comparison
I place my faith in love
My fate in this communication

I’ve been having dreams and visions
In them you are always standing
Right beside me
I reach out for your hand
To see your arms extending
Outstretched towards me

To you I give my pledge
I honor all that’s good
In this life we’re living
To think not only of myself
But of the greater union

Can I get a witness
There is salvation and rapture for the lonely
Can I get a witness
Bless this day sacred and holy
Sacred and holy

I’ve been having dreams and visions
In them you are always standing
Right beside me
I reach out for your hand
To see your arms extending
Outstretched towards me

With you I am revealed
All my shame all my faults and virtues
Behold body mind and spirit
Heart and soul devoted all to you

Can I get a witness
Bless this day sacred and holy
Sacred and holy

tuxes  are entirely unnecessary at weddings

Even if one of the brides wears one?

(Not that I did - just sayin.)

LOL! Yeah, mine is a case not of having found some one to put up with me 'at last'. It's more like 'so soon?'. NOT that I'm complaining.

Sent to your hotmail (the old one I had).

Let me know if I win! I mean... if you're gonna use it at the wedding.

I would agree with Etta James "At Last"-the song is just so full of love
also, when I read the lyrics Renee posted about Tracy Chapman's "Wedding Song", it gave me chills-it's different, and meaningful.

I want to suggest a fun song for perhaps the march out- a Beatles tune, "When I'm 64".
My friends did this at their wedding, and it was so perfect and the melody warms the heart. They are both fun-loving, musical people and that song really left everyone with a smile!

"When I'm 64"
When I get older, losing my hair, many years from now,
Will you still be sending me a Valentine, birthday greetings,
bottle of wine?
If I'd been out 'till quarter to three, would you lock the door?
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four?

Hmm------mmm---mmmh.
You'll be older, too.Aaah, and if you say the word, I could stay
with you.

I could be handy, mending a fuse, when your lights have gone.
You can knit a sweater by the fireside, sunday mornings, go for
a ride.
Doing the garden, digging the weeds, who could ask for more?
Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm sixty
four?

Every summer we can rent a cottage in the Isle of Wightif it's
not to dear. We shall scrimp and save.
Ah, grandchildren on your knee, Vera, Chuck, and Dave.

Send me a postcard, drop me a line stating point of view.
Indicate precisely what you mean to say, yours sincerely wasting
away.
Give me your answer, fill in a form, mine forever more.
Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm sixty
four?

by John Lennon/Paul McCartney

Carrie Newcomer's Silver is similar to When I'm 64--

try it.

I am becoming a justice of the peace this summer bc my brother and his future wife have asked me to perform the ceremony (yikes!) and this is a song they might use.

Oh...hey...how about "We're Going to be Friends", by the WHite Stripes. Simple, sweet and anyone can play it on guitar (even me):

 Fall is here,hear the yell
back to school,ring the bell
brand new shoes,walking blues
climb the fence,books and pens
I can tell that we're going to be friends

Walk with me,Suzy Lee
through the park and by the tree
we will rest upon the ground
and look at all the bugs we found
then safely walk to school
without a sound

Well here we are,no one else
we walked to school all by ourselves
there's dirt on our uniforms
from chasing all the ants and worms
we clean up and now its time to learn

Numbers,letters,learn to spell
nouns,and books,and show and tell
at playtime we will throw the ball
back to class,through the hall
teacher marks our height
against the wall

And we don't notice any time pass
we don't notice anything
we sit side by side in every class
teacher thinks that I sound funny
but she likes the way you sing

Tonight I'll dream while I'm in bed
when silly thoughts go through my head
about the bugs and alphabet
and when I wake tommorow I'll bet
that you and I will walk together again
cause I can tell that we're going to be friends

"What a Wonderful World" by Louis (Sachmo) Armsrong would be a perfect song to end the evening with.

As for Pachelbel's Cannon in "D" having been played too much, I say "so what", it is still a brilliant piece of music.

Certainly better than "Closing Time".

Or worse - "To All the Girls I've Loved Before". :0

Lara - 2006-03-15 3:20 PM Hire Chris Isaak

I don't think that would be prudent at my wedding. I'd probably try to seduce him.

You're getting hitched as well? Cool. June 24th is our wedding day, although we're already legally married. Well, at least there's a lot of really great classical and religious music out there!
