I would not say it's a lost art......of course I'll have to check with my wife for the official answer.

The day I look to someone else's definition of how I am supposed to conduct myself is the day I validate all of this rediculous media crap surrounding it. Dr. Phil et al, is an idiot (who apparently knows how to make cash, so I gotta give the guy some credit there) not to be taken seriously.

I agree with you wholeheartedly Stake, Dr. Phil is an idiot! Dr. Phil's career really started when Oprah decided to have him on the show. It's all her fault! Well, maybe not all her fault, but she's partially to blame for the idiot.

Oprah's an idiot. I'm soooo sick of her enlightened, self-righteous self, but that's another thread! Dr. Phil's just pure entertainment...definitely not to be taken seriously.

Men...I like 'em just they way they are. I like 'em outgoing and funny, and I like 'em quiet and sincere (like my DH). I just like 'em.

So would you ladies rather have the guy that could take care of you financially but maybe because he was spending so much time in med school he didn't have any time to workout and therefore couldn't protect you physically. Or the outdoorsy blue collar guy that is proud of what he does like work at the mill and can protect you if need be? I think that more of you would rather have the rich guy you could take in a fistfight than the workboot clad guy taking his hard day out on you. I think that the dream guy described above might be appealing to you, but how many of them exist? I work a blue collar job and I barely like to hang out with the guys I work with after work let alone have my sister date them. Lets just say that donald trumps get more girls than joe luchpail down at the docks.

Tania, are you perchance, describing your father?

Tom

No, I was cheating worse than that, actually. I was describing my husband.

A good example of this was a bunch of college friends got together a few weeks ago for a wedding at the beach in south carolina. Someone passed a fireworks stand on the way there...Bad Idea. Long story short guess who got to run away from rentacops at 4:00 in the morning on the beach.
As my friend said when he saw the fireworks that had been brought, "I hope I never reach a point in my life when I don't consider fireworks cool or farting funny"

Good lord! I am certain we have more choices than these two profiles!

  1. I don't want anyone to "take care of me" financially. I'm perfectly capable of doing that myself AND I don't want to be a burden to my mate.
  2. I don't need protecting. I've never been in a situation where I needed a man to step in and apply his fists and I never intend to get in such a situation.
  3. Protecting a loved one is not so much a matter of brawn as it is a matter of using one's brains and of having courage. I'm only 5'2" but if anyone was behaving in a menacing way towards one of my young nieces or nephews, I would use my head to remove us from danger as quickly as possible AND I would also put my body in front of their little bodies - without thinking, without hesitation.

Lara, is he always asking you where the ketchup is, even though its in the same spot in the fridge that its been for 10 years? I do that. It drives my SU crazy. I just can't remember. And I didn't even do the good drugs in college. Damn.

Heh. Things my exhusband used to hear:

  • I dunno. Where'dya leave it?
  • I dunno. It's not my day to watch it.
  • I dunno but I bet it's somewhere in the fridge.
  • It's probably where you left it the last time you used it.
  • It ran away from home.
  • Why don't you buy some OJ, too, while you're at the store buying more ketchup?
  • Why are you asking me?
  • Ask Daisy. (the dog)
  • Ask Winnie. (the other dog)
  • Rachel, do you know where the ketchup is? (cat)

Thats why I like my bachlor fridge. I know exacly what's in it.
Chicken breasts, squash, asparagus, ground turkey. 3 different kinds of mustard. 2 shiner bock beers. Eggplant.
In the freezer 4 beermugs, 6 to 8 grouper heads and backbones.

Shows how much you know.  And what the hell does "workboot clad guy taking his day out on you"   mean???

Manliness may be turning into a lost art, but I don't think I want to date someone that has to buy a book on it.

Me? I just want someone that can deal.

Granted, with me, there is quite a bit to deal with, but I'd like to think it's worth it. And you'll find no books in my bookshelf on the "Lost Art of Being a Renaissance Woman." However, you will find books on war, intelligence, history & art, biographies of world leaders and my copy of London A-Z. Right under the Arabic cd's and next to my Tilley hat with my NRA marksmanship pin on it.

I don't need a book to tell me how to be me. I'm spectacular at it already.

Any guy I date shouldn't need it either.

Who needs a book to tell you who to be...That's why you get married and have a wife.

Amen, brother!  Funny you should mention....last night the "dream man" (thanks, clamato, I'll be sure to tell him you said so) and I were watching some mindless whatever on TV and somebody said something like "I just want a relationship where we accept and love each other for WHO WE ARE..." and I turned to my husband and said....."isn't she dumb honey?  Every woman knows we're just looking for good raw material to work with so we can love WHO WE TURN YOU INTO".
