![]() | ![]() Hi, I'd like to join your mentoring group please Name: Cre'shea Story: I have always secretly wanted to do a small triathlon, but have never been brave enough to commit to the training or even attempt it. A local nearby city is holding a triathlon (500m, 22k bike ride, 5k run)...The bike and run are on flat/loop courses. From what I understand very basic in triathlon speak. Family Status: Married 4.5 years, 1 child 15months old Current Training: I haven't started yet, would really love some guidance in that dept. I am not training for time or performance. I would just love to say that I did it, even if I cross that line last...as long as I cross it. I walk 2-3 miles two-three times a week, not so much recently since it's been raining. I own a Nordic Track Ellipitical, and the our local swimming pool allows free admittance for triathlon training! Weight loss: I am not interested in weight loss. Although I am a breastfeeding mother and I am also a vegetarian. So I might need some help in making sure I am receiving enough calories. Can I do this??? I am pretty sure this is my year!!!!!!!!! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lovey - 2011-12-20 11:52 PM Can I join you again? NAME: Lovey / Tracy STORY: I wanted to do triathlons because training for it help me lose weight since I was overweight and out of shape. . In 2008 I started out running first and did local races and really liked it. Then I attempted a tri in 2009 and with 200 yards to go on the swim, I got pulled from the race for exceeding the time. After joining a triathlon swim training class, I completed the same triathlon a year later in 2010 along with another sprint tri. I did the same tri this year as a relay with me as a biker. I am still a tri newbie with a lot of questions. Its a journey for me. I don't care that I am back of the pack or even last, I want to finish and finish stronger each time. FAMILY STATUS: Married with 2 children ages 13 and 8. CURRENT TRAINING: Just started running again 3x a week. Took the summer off because I had a stress fracture in my foot that wouldn't heal (my fault). It even hurt to swim. I have been trying for the last 2 months to train consistently and failed. December seem to have started off well though. I am just running right now so as to ease into it. My goal is to have a schedule that consists of spinning 2x a week (once will be on my own bike), strength training 2x week and swim 2x a week. THIS YEAR'S RACES: 2011 was a year of injury for me. Got my stress fracture training for my first marathon. I did finish it though, along with a 5Ks, a 10K, a 15K (horrible), a tri relay (biker) and my first duathlon (can you say hard?!). 2012 RACES: I don't know which race will be my "A" race yet. I didn't get into Iron girl triathlon so I have to find another one to do. Right now I am only registered for Cherry Blossom 10 miler and Iron Girl Half Marathon both in April. Still deciding on which triathlon but it will be a sprint. WEIGHTLOSS: I am overweight and have been most of my life. Since I started running in 2008, tri'ing in 2010, I lost 20lbs and 3 sizes. I gained back 10lbs and 1 size recovering. I still need to lose at least 30lbs. Welcome back! Sorry to hear about your stress fracture ![]() |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sherilyn - 2011-12-21 12:37 AM Hi, I’m Sherilyn. Story: I completed 5 sprint triathlons several years ago where I placed twice. For the past 5 years I have been the Co-Race Director and Volunteer Coordinator for a 1500 participant Olympic distance triathlon. I am also the Co-Race Director and Volunteer Coordinator for a 1500 participant marathon/half marathon. I have completed over 20 marathons. Most races were completed in 4 to 5 hours. For the past 5 years, I have also been deeply involved with our local running club including President. I am currently the Tennessee RRCA State Representative. In 2007 I went to Kona and volunteered for the IM World Championships. Currently I help time our running club’s races and work part time as a timer for Team Magic – a multi-sport event management company. My regular job is a Sr. Programmer Analyst. Family Status: Happily married for 22 years. We have no children but we do have 2 dogs and 3 cats. Currently Training: I am only running a couple of times a week. I plan to stick to a good training plan starting at the beginning of the year. 2011 Races: I participated in one 8K, participated on a relay team of a triathlon where I ran a 10K, ran Tennessee Ragnar Relay. 2012 Races: Mach Tenn Triathlon (.6, 16, 4), ESi Ironman 70.3 Augusta, maybe the Tennessee Ragnar Relay and Co-Race Director and Volunteer Coordinator for Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon and the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon & Half Marathon. Goals: As you can tell, I have been on the administrative side of running and triathlons. In December I turned 49. My goal is to do a HIM when I’m 49 and then an IM when I am 50. Welcome Sherilyn! Your involvement in race organizing sounds pretty cool! I have helped organize a large 5K/10K race in Philly the past several years, so I know a little bit about that, too! You and I are about the same age, by the way... Glad to have you as part of the group! |

Welcome Cre'shea! You can absolutely do this!! When is the race you want to train for? Your first step really should be to take a look at some training plans, and pick one you think you can follow. There are some great plans available for free right here on BT, and if none of those look right for you, there are many other free plans available on-line - google "sprint triathlon plan" or "sprint triathlon training" and you'll find a bunch of them. When you've checked out a few plans, if you have any questions about how to implement them, just post them here! That's great that you have a place that offers free pool access! Do you have a bike? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks Jenny, and hello everyone. Here is my bio: STORY: I had been somewhat athletic in High School, playing soccer, beach volleyball and basketball, but that was a long time ago. Marriage, two children, business ownership, and the general busyness of life just got in the way. A few years back I began going to the gym, lifting weights and such. Then, in late July, 2010, we had a family weight loss challenge. In order to lose, I began running. My youngest daughter suggested we run a race at Disney, so I began to prep for that and my oldest sister joined in as well. Before that race had happened, I began looking for more challenge, since I was enjoying the training. I had a friend who had been in tri’s a while back, he gave me his old bike and it grew from there. Now I am on the Health and Wellness committee at work, head up the work running group, and look forward to any chance to get outside and train. STATUS: I am a 6’3”, 45 yr old male and I've been married for almost 25 years. I have 2 girls, 20 and 22. My wife is the most wonderful person a man could have in his life and has been very supportive of this addition to my lifestyle. CURRENT TRAINING: At this point I am nursing a sore knee from being undertrained for my last HM. So training has been reduced to swimming whenever possible. I restarted running this week, and I am shooting for a few miles every other day. I rode the bike for the first time in nearly a month this week and it seemed to tweak the knee. THIS YEAR: 2011 was my first year racing, or should I say participating. I ran my first race, the WDW Half Mary in Jan. All in all, 2011 included 3 HM’s, a few 5 and 10 K’s, and 2 sprint tri’s. 2012 RACES and GOALS: I am not signed up for anything yet, but this year will hopefully include two HM’s and at least 2 (probably 3) sprint tri’s and an Oly. My hope is to see time improvement from last year, quicker transitions, and advances in my overall endurance fitness. Oh yeah, I will also volunteer at the local sprint tri again this year, as I really enjoyed that last year. WEIGHTLOSS: As I mentioned above, this all started as part of a family weight loss challenge. I started at that point at 240 lbs. At my lowest I had reached 207, which felt low for me. Currently I am about 224, with a goal weight of 210-215 for race season. WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD GROUP MEMBER: I am not certified in anything, although some might think I am certifiable. I am, however very interested in health and wellness. I am not the fastest, nor will I ever be. I am supportive, upbeat, and really do want to be a better triathlete. I have questions and will hopefully have answers as well. |

The hub has a strain gauge to measure torque and provide a measurement of power output. It's a great tool for bike training, and I'm excited to start using it! |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() It's a lot easier to swim with a masters group. I especially like that the coach pays attention to my stroke. Sometimes more than I would like. lol The only bad thing is that they are using an outdoor pool. The pool is heated so the swimming part is bearable, but getting in and out can be a challenge. Member ![]() | ![]() Hi Jenny. I'd like to join the group if you still have room. Here is some information about myself. NAME: twostep252/Dan Other: My biggest obstacle thus far has been joint pain in my ankles when I run. I have somewhat of a bum ankle, so the running is the biggest challenge due to the impact on the ankle. It has gotten a lot better over the last year, but it is still something I am very careful of. I've started to fill in my training log this week and will be sure to keep it updated. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 2.6 miles jogging through the neighborhood this evening. It has been warming again here which I really am not a big fan of. Usually I run in the mornings. I am trying not to tweak an already wonky left knee, so I just started back this week, every other day. Slow and steady is the motto for now. Off to soak the joints in some cold water. I will be adding everyone to my friends list so they have access to my logs. |

I got rejected because I was too slow. There are others willing to work with me but one is 30 miles away and makes it hard to get back to work 35 miles the opposite direction. the other one is a late night practice that seems to conflict with my family schedule. I am going to try to find another that will help me out. |

NAME: Erin FAMILY STATUS: married 19 years, two busy little boys ages 2 & 5, dogs, live near woods and lake (trail runs and OWS in the backyard - hooray) Other: Nutrition and Avoiding/Preventing Injuries are important to me. I'd also love to hear how other parents of small/crazy children manage to train and stay faithful to family responsibilities. So far I've chosen my kids and my training over most other things, and the laundry is piling up..... |

New user![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi Jenny! I'd love to join your group! My name is Dana, I am 42 years old, I've been married for 17 years and have four children (17, 16, 5, and 3). Last year I trained for and finished a sprint tri and a duathlon, but stopped training after the summer was over. This summer was busy with selling our house and relocating to another state, so I let my fitness slip. I really feel like I am starting over, so not sure if I should set a goal for sprint distance next summer, or go for an olympic distance race. I am planning on working on my running and biking fitness only for now, and work on swimming after I have increased my fitness level. Looking forward to being in the group! |

New user ![]() ![]() | ![]() I would like to join if possible. My name is April and I am a twenty-four year old mother of three and live in south central Kansas. I have a four year old daughter, three year old son, and seven week old baby girl. I am also a Physical Therapy student and fortunately a stay at home mom. I have always wanted to compete in triathlons and now that I am finished having children I believe it is the perfect time to begin training. As of now, I try to run every morning or when the ground is dry enough to keep me from sinking in the mud ( I run on dirt roads ) and I swim twice per week. I love to bike, but haven't gotten the bike out since we moved to the middle of nowhere. My only issue is motivation. I am still thirty pounds overweight since I had my baby and I have been trying to do the P90X workouts during naptimes. To be a triathlete is a dream I have had since I was a child and 2012 is the year that my dream will come true! |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi Jenny! Are you still taking people? I made the decision to begin learning about, preparing, and training for triathlons tonight after trying to talk myself into it for over a year. My name is Sarah and I am in Louisiana. I am a wife, college student, and stay at home mom to a 17 month old. I have lost 70 pounds since July 2010 but i still have about 70 more to go. I have been eating well and I have completed 2- 1 mile races, 2- 5k's, 1- 3 mile adventure mud race, 2- 10k's, and in October I finished my first 1/2 marathon in 3:33:21. I am a very good swimmer and I enjoy running. I have 2 sprint triathlons in mind for this spring but I also have 2 half marathons (1 in Jan. and 1 in March). I have a pool and a bike that I can also use for my training. I am planning to sign up with a local Triathlon group for additional support, help, and training but most of the people have done multiple IM's and I fear that I will not be able to keep up with them and they will not have the patience for me. |
