TracyV - 2012-01-17 8:53 AM I am in. I registered last week. Debating camping?? We will be driving down from WI for the event. I have heard many good things about Kansas. It will be my first race of the season.

All the folks I have talked to liked that they camped out.  From a racers perspective, running through the camprounds was great.  If you have friends/family they can just hang out in the camp area and watch you run by twice during the run while they sip on their beer and cook their brauts.  Almost like tailgating for a Packers or Brewers game

If we can get a site, we have decided to camp. Absolutely no reason not to. We have all the gear. Sounds like a fun race.

Now, to just get through the winter. The Packers lost, which was a bit unexpected and humbling for those of us who adore them.

I just received my email regarding campground reservations. I will be reserving a non-utility spot this Monday. It'll just be myself, as any fan club I bring won't be camping with me, so if any other BT'ers want to share let me know. The past few years we've been able to get some good groups of BT folk together.

20 week training plan for this race starts Sunday!

Can you share the details of said email. I didn't get one, and definitely want a site.

I can open it, but it is acting a little funky. Now that I'm not at my work desk and my internet use isn't restricted I'll try a Google doc link. (I'm trying to avoid copy and pasting a somewhat email).

Got my site, P146, now I just need to sign up for the race itself, lol.

Family is coming with, but if not I'll still bring the 5th wheel and open it up to other team members if they need it.

I'm thinking of signing up for this race.  Sorry for the stupid question, but do you have a choice of kinds of camp sights?  Are the camp sights for pitching a tent only or do they also have cabins?   I like camping to some degree, but the day before a big race, I kind of want some comforts.

No cabins on Clinton Lake.
According to the web site, here are your choices:

Non-Utility Primitive Site per night = $25.40 (Plus one time $11.50 Reservation Fee) You’ll be able to pitch up to THREE Tents and have 2 vehicles at the site.

Utility Site with Water & Electricity (20 & 30 Amp plug-ins) per night = $25.90 (Plus one time $11.50 Reservation Fee) You’ll be able to have ONE camping unit and 2 vehicles at the site.

Prime Site with Water & Electricity (50 amp plug in) per night = $28.40 (Plus one time $11.50 Reservation Fee) You’ll be able to have ONE camping unit and 2 vehicles at the site.

Thanks so much for that information.   Hmmmm, something to think about.  I know my husband would love that kind of camping.  The price is good too.  Of course I better think fast,  seems like the camp sights are going to fill pretty quickly.

Changed my spot to number 155, the other one had too many trees and not enough play area for the kids

I just realized that I inadvertently reserved a utility site, even though I'm pitching a tent (pun intended). Will I stand out amongst campers and rvs? Should I get it changed? Right now, I'm thinking about leaving it so I don't have to hassle changing it, but I would like to be around some tents.

Me too. Pitching a tent in a utility site. She said it was a nice site on the run course with a lot of shade. What the heck.

Silly question. How are you getting your campsites reserved already? Per the imkansas website it looked like we couldn't reserve a site until sometime in march? First time doing this distance and this race and want to make sure I can get a campsite. Thanks for any info you can pass on.

Yes. If you go to their FB page it has a map of the campsite layout for the Ironman (there's a link under accommodations on the official Kansas Ironman website). It will be my first HIM distance, and first time doing Kansas! I have campsite #266, shaded and on the run course. Should be fun!!---Ali
