Bripod - 2012-04-23 2:01 PM lisac957 - 2012-04-23 1:23 PM Couple of friends on Facebook are throwing around May 5 as a "ride the course" day if anyone else is interested. I would be happy to lead a 15-16mph group, plus a short brick run afterwards. I'd prefer a morning start but am pretty flexible. Any takers? Count me in with this group Will hopefully arrive there no later than 11AM (preferably earlier though you know how that goes sometimes ). What time are you thinking you'd be starting? 11 a.m. start time sounds great to me.
The 11AM start time was more of a "group" decision...
We should figure out what the expectations are. During the week I go riding with a group of roadies and what we do is we all ride out together and keep the group together if we can, but if people fall off in the hills that's fine. At every turn the group stops and waits for the riders to catch up. Everyone catches their breath and we set out again.
Now, realizing that we are all triathletes training for a specific race that doesn't allow drafting or blocking (or any other kind of camaraderie ) some folks might want to ride solo at their own pace while others might want to ride together. Knowing what everyone's expectations are ahead of time will help to mitigate any hurt feelings or sense of abandonment while we're out there. And if people are going to ride solo it doesn't really matter when they are going to start. It's not like the roads are only going to be open to bikes for a set amount of time.
I am fine either way, group or solo (or a mix of both ). I'm comfortable in my skills at handling my tri bike in a group (even rode it with the roadies a couple weeks ago--only rode in the aero position when pulling or if I was way off the back ) but I know not everyone is cool with riding in a group with people on tri bikes. Based on how my 40 miler went this past Saturday I'll probably be somewhere in the 16.5 mph range for the full 56 this weekend. |
