chrismcturnan - 2012-11-21 10:12 AM As far as the water temps, I guess my sleeveless would work right?

It will be a bit nippy but I do not think it would be that unmanageable.  If that is what you have, you can do it.

Athlete guide just released...looks like they changed the bike course from what I saw originally. The 1/2 is a 2 loop out and back and quite flat....666 feet of total elevation gain. The run for the the 1/2 is 1 out and back with just 177 feet of elevation gain! This will be the flattest race I've ever done! Nice!! (My only other 1/2 was the Auburn 1/2 Iron this year....6000 feet of elevation gain on the bike and about 1,400 on the run!)

My wife was going to do it, but she is backing out cause of some other issues (stressful school year to start), but I am still doing the open. Hint for anyone wanting to pass me...my weakest leg is the run...always has been and always will be.

I called on Wednesday and they said water temp was about 60 degrees. He said as long as the state doesn't fill it this week, it should stay around lower 60's. apparently when they fill it, it drops down into the 50's. brrrr. Good luck everyone. Hope to meet some of you that weekend. I'll be in the red, black and white Kiwani suit, with "swim bike run 4 hope" written on it. ( for a charity). I'm doing my first full on Saturday, but going to be around Sunday to do the open with my wife and son. Josh

So I am thinking about backing out of the race.  I have not really trained too much due to work and school and really do not feel like making a fool of myself out there.  I am back and forth on it.

I swam with a buddy of mine up there three weeks ago and we did it in jammers.  Not too bad.

He is doing the half and called me to say that he was freezing in his wetsuit with a hoodie - so take that's for what it's worth.  The temp must have plummetted the past couple weeks.

I just called up there and the water temp is currently 64 degrees.  Same as the ocean so sleeveless would probably be fine.

Before I forget,  I got an RV spot next to the lake and they said it allows two cars and up to six people.  I am just going to pitch a tent since it will be for one night.  If anyone needs a place to rack out  and park close to the event message me.

Called today, and they said it was 64, but requested the lake to be filled. They said it would only drop the temperature no more than 5 degrees. When I asked if this was done prior to last years race, they said yes and the water was 60 degrees. (This is a load of bull cause anyone who did last years race will tell you it was in the mid 50's)

When I further pressed about the temp, they did say that it could drop into the 50's so be prepped for a possibly cold swim

That sucks, because when I called a few days ago they said they had nothing to do with the lake being filled. Only the state did. Not sure why they would need to fill it before the race. I'm sure it's deep enough.

I'm super stoked. Have the stomach flu that's going around. Perfect timing. 4 days before my first full distance. I'm totally bummed.

Don't worry, my IT band has now decided to start aching over the weekend so I have been stretching and resting it like mad. It has been feeling better today, but I have not put any stress or run on it since.

Yeah I just read that on slowtwitch. One of the employees from Hits, said they should find out today if the state will accept their request. Lets hope so. People are saying that last year the water was 52.

Yeah at those temps, it's going to take till mile 40 to warm up. At least day temps are looking great. I'll be in the red, black and white Kiwani suit and red kestrel with teeth chattering.

Doing the sprint, I will be the guy in the LB Tri suit on a blue Fuji, that is me. Come by and say hi as well. I am not a morning person so if I seem grouchy it is not you but the time of day. Ask my first period class if you don't believe me.

Haha, classic. To make it worse, we will be jumping into some cold water! Although I've heard they still haven't filled the lake yet, so maybe we will luck out

Just finished the Half...water was great! Low 60's but calm and clean. Full wetsuit and you'll be fine. Good luck to everyone!

Just got home from La Quinta.  Excellent race, support was mediocre for the sprint but hey....its a sprint. The water was awesome, I used my sleeveless and was fine.
