Also, I don't know if you have noticed but I haven't been running in a few days. I have some tightness in my glute/ITB from my previous HM and figure I am best just resting before this weekend's HM than trying to push through it (in this case.) So, hopefully I don't kill anyone.

I have a list, in case you're wanting to make any money off your misery.

Surprised you haven't done it yourself. How have you been feeling by the way?

Honestly? Not great. But I did take today completely off for Mutti's Bday. Hey, I even skipped our 8am walk

However, I'm full speed ahead with IM training (sort of. Highly adjusted). If I'm to have any hope in December, I need to. If I blow out training--well, I'll probably have a really nice aquabike and vacay then.

Well he did his first mary when I did mine. Long story short he is attributing his poor performance to the fact that he didn't run a full 26.2 in training and completely ignoring the fact his training was terribly inconsistent in addition to missing a whole-lotta long runs.

Do you have a strategy? I worry that you will try to do too much at once and make yourself sick(er) I wonder if just an approach of frequent short workouts would better suit you? I dunno ... thinking out loud.

Yes. My strategy is cram with massive bike volume/run a little every day/swim when I can, drop down to zero on an extremely short taper, die.

I'm seven weeks out. If it were frequent short workouts, which, admittedly, may not be that bad, I would be doing 2-3 bikes a day of 1-2 hours each (plus the long ones).

Of course I'm going to try to do too much at once and make myself sick(er).

Interesting "article" lists the top 100 male athletes of all time.  Dave Scott is 85 and Crowie is 58.  Sadly they were both beat out by Brad Pitt (57) Yell and Richard Simmons (20) Surprised. LA was #8.  There were some other cyclists and runners in there.  Pix not hard to look at either Laughing

(as posted on FB)

How was I supposed to know that the cake (for my mother's 79th birthday) pointed out to me by the boutique deli owner (in stringy cutoffs and flipflops) as "very popular" would be a NUCLEAR GAY SMURF EXPLOSION?!

The evening ended with my mom snorting blue frosting out her nose. I'd say it was a ripping success of a 79th birthday.

Oh my GOD!!  BEST CAKE EVER!!!  I'm totally making one of those someday!! LOVE IT!!

Let's try to just keep this one to triathlon ...

and life, the universe, and everything, 'kay?

Oh, Lordy.

So, I mentioned in the previous thread that I got a cramp in my right calf at the end of my run last night. I stretched it. Soaked it in a hot bath. Slept on it. And it's still a little sore this morning. I've not had this happen before (that I can remember), so I don't know what else to do? I'm scheduled to run 3-4 tonight, so I'd like it to be in tip-top shape.

Advice?

ha...i don't know how legit this website is...but there are some petty good calf stretches on there.  And if you're in for some entertainment...check out the chick's HAIR!  good. god.

I just got my fitness results back from our coordinator for the test we had earlier this week.

My body comp (aka BMI) is in the 85th percentile

My run (1.5 mile) and push-ups are in the 95th percentile

My sit-ups are in the 90th percentile

And my flexibility is in the 80th percentile

These percentages are based on law-enforcement, not the general public, and they are based on gender and age. Interestingly my numbers are down from last year because I didn't specifically train for the fitness test this year. My run, however was faster in spite of stopping at one point during the test to fiddle with my music. Yay!

The frustrating part is that with those stats I am stil BOMOP in triathon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TJ - that's awesome!  you're  a stud!!

Hi guys an gals. Thanks for the enquiries, been on my hols then v. busy at work once back. Add to that the fact that i started smoking again whilst in TurkeyFrown and my mojo went a little bit too far south. Gave myself a big kick up the b*ckside and feel a lot better for it.

Back on the non smoking meds so I should be back in the clean air society by the end of the weekend. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Just started back on the jogging and am planning a final event before the end of the the year. The 'Evil Sheriff' duathlon calls to me. Should be a lot of fun, running through Sherwood Forest, if the November weather holds out.

I seem to have missed a lot af chit chat and no doubt a few RR's. Well done to all of you who have completed races recently. I have been thinking about you Manatees despite not getting onto the site that often.

Unfortunately for you lot, I'm back.

Glad you're back, we missed ya, chap!

(uh, HELLO! rhyming!!!)

I just typed out a mega-rant but deleted it all. I think I will spare you.

My cousin is asking for my blessing on his terrible marathon plan. Siiighhhhh.

Your cousin (doesn't matter which one) is hot and awesome and I think it's great he's gonna do a mary.

That said, when people ask me stuff like this ... I generally say:

Eff off and die. Never mind ... looks like you're well on your way to doing that already!

Okay, I say it more nicely. But that's pretty much the sentiment. If I really really like them and they're even partway genuinely asking for advice (not just to cosign BS), I'd point out something like how incredible he is and some good parts of the plan (I mean, it has running in it, right? Right?) and then ask questions about the other parts. Pointed questions.

Well he did his first mary when I did mine. Long story short he is attributing his poor performance to the fact that he didn't run a full 26.2 in training and completely ignoring the fact his training was terribly inconsistent in addition to missing a whole-lotta long runs.

He's a very smart guy whom I respect the heck out of but c'mon!

I don't know if this is helpful or spiteful but...you could

-let him run a 26.2 mile training run and see how it goes and then let him see how his marathon goes and let him figure it out

-ask him to find ANY training plan that suggests running 26.2 before the race...

you could just say, sorry, buddy, but i think it blows - here's why (list) then say, but do what you want...

some people are ASKHOLES - they ask your opinion then do whatever they want anyway - totally frustrating, but you cant let 'em make you crazy (easier said than done...).  after a point, you'll learn to jsut stop sharing your opinion...

hope your soreness goes away for this weekend - smart move to rest.
