For U.S. athletes, I know our USAT card isn't necessary, but do we need to join Triathlon Ontario?  FAQs say we need to bring a T.O. card for Canadian events.  I assume this means everyone, including non Canadians?  ETA - actually shouldn't it be Triathlon BC?    Can you buy a one day license on site like with USAT?  Anyone know the cost?

Whistler is in BC so you would need a TriBC 1 day membership. Each province has a PGB which in turn is a member of Triathlon Canada. each province buys insurance seperately so anyone from outside BC or Alberta needs a 1 day. Alberta and Bc honour each others memberships.

Quiet group so far but it's still a ways out.  I'm just about ready for Bone Island Full next month and will take a few weeks off then get right back into some training.  I'll be searching for some good routes with elevation gain after January.  I'll probably take a few trips further north to get some better hills to bike on.

I've been dealing with a bit of tendonitis on the top of my foot since October.  Flared up at at HITS race 12/1, so I've not been running since then, and just decided to sort of take December easy and just catch a workout here and there.   I have Oceanside 70.3 end of March, and start working with a coach 1/1, so just going to try to not run until January.  It's getting tough, trying to be patient.  I worry that it won't be enough for March but have to keep my eyes on the August A race

If they sanction with TriBC its probably $20 or $25 for a day licence. They bumped up the day fees and lowered the annual a few years back to drive annual memberships up. It only takes 2 races for it to be worth while (for us Canucks).

What type of gearing is everyone looking at for this course? Compacts or Standard?

My bike has standard cranks and I'm not converting to compact cranks.  I currently have an 11-25 cassette but may change it to a 12-27 for race day.

I think I will also stay with my 11-27 and standard set up. I used it in CDA last couple years and does well for me. Only time if was tough was in Lake Stevens last year on one up hill that was very steep. First time I ever saw people walking bikes up hill.

I ran a standard with an 11-28 for IMC last year and will likely keep it the same for Whistler. Tempted to go to a 12-25 to keep gear spacing a bit closer, but I do like having a bail out gear in case things don't go according to plan. It almost goes without saying, but training on the course is the best way to find out what works for you.

Compact with 11-23 or 11-25. I'll test myself on highwood pass and decide.

I wish I could train on the course. I would like to see how the ride is laid out as far as corners and hills. Will be fun no matter what I think.

If anyone comes across a CT course for Whistler, be sure to pass it along. I've been looking around but haven't found anything

Kicked off the year with BoneIsland full last week and now I'm ready to refocus for Whistler.  I'll take it easy for another week then start ramping back up training.

I live in a really flat area (prairies) and won't have a chance to train on the route for IMC 2013. Since I don't often ride hills and this is my first IM, I'm a bit unsure about gearing set-up. I currently have a 'mid-compact' up-front (52/36), and am thinking of putting on an 11-32 on the rear (I have a SRAM WiFLi rear derailleur that handles their 11-32 10-speed cassette). From anyone who may be familiar with the route, is this overkill, or a good idea to be on the safe side with a bail-out gear?

Funny timing! I was just coming on here to post since my wife and I were in the area yesterday and drove the bike course. Its been a couple of years since I've been on a bunch of the sections of the course, and my memory wasn't as good as I thought.

The climb from Pemberton back to Whistler was way worse than I remembered. Pretty much 35km of steady climbing. There are a few brief drops (one quite steep), and pretty much zero flat sections. Be prepared for an hour or more of just about constant climbing on the way back.

The route as a whole was  hills, everywhere (up and down obviously, as your covering the same road both directions). The only significant flat section was Pemberton Meadows. I'm definitely looking into changing my gearing out, as I'm not a strong climber.

Just one guys view. And keep in mind I haven't ridden any of it yet. But I plan on hitting it a bunch as soon as the snow clears out a bit, because I haven't got any better place to practice sustained climbing anyways.

Thanks.  I've read reports about the ride back from Pemberton to Whistler, and also the fact that there are often afternoon headwinds in the area.

Sticking with my compact and 11-28 I think
