Subject: RE: What do you drink on a sprint?
This past summer I wasn't really racing in extremely hot or humid conditions, but I don't really drink anything.  I might have taken a sip of water at an aid station on the run, but that was more for mental purposes I'd say.  Most of the time I'd take those aid stations as an opportunity to dump water on myself.  I have been kind of wondering if not taking anything in during a sprint actually hurts me. (Although from these responses it sounds like it doesn't.)

All I drink in a sprint is the tears of all the people I'm crushing.

I had pink eye that day - sorry about that!

In a sprint at MAX I do a bottle of flavored drink and that's about it.

Not a whole lot will actually digest during the event, preparation is key, but as it was said above, it can stimulate your system into using up more of the stored glycogen before getting shocked enough to shut down using it.

Not nearly long enough to get dehydrated either, but it can help mentally when your mouth gets a bit dry as well.

Run, nothing.

One water bottle, half full still don't finish it. I try and pre-hydrate as much as possible for two days before. I grab a drink from the water bottle a mile or two into the bike. Just after turn around point I eat a GU and then drink some water a mile or so later. On the run, I only get water from the stations to throw on my face/head. I could actually do the whole race with zero water but I feel better if I drink a little bit. I just try to consume it on the bike so I don't feel it sloshing around and/or cramp during the run.

I just did a race and it was FREEZING cold!! 42 degree air temp. Thats the coldest condition I've been in in like 3 years. I didn't have any warm clothing either; just my skin-tight suit meant for cooling your body down!!

Needless to say I only had enough of my bottle to wet my mouth. Didn't drink anything at all and just set a PR considering the longer bike leg

When your legs go numb you can't tell if you're fatigued or not so might as well just blast it right? haha

I usually take a single bottle and  have a few sips on the bike, but I like to drink on the run  always have so it comes off with me as I NEVER drink anything offered on the course.

Single bottle with G2, mostly because I prefer the flavor over water.  I rarely get through the bottle, maybe half at most.  I find it hard to drink when I'm pushing max effort.  I don't really worry about dehydrating given the distance.

20oz bottle on the down tube full of crystal lite iced tea.  But last 2 sprints, didn't need it nor needed any water on the run.

Few sips during the swim (can't help it) and a few sips on the bike...that's it.

I drink a beer j/k I fill up a water bottle about half full is all. I don't see any point in taking in anything but that as I'm not going for more than 70 minutes at the most in a sprint.

I don't do many sprints but the ones I have done are usually in cooler weather.  I take the cages off my bike as I don't need water on the bike.  On the run, I might grab some water to rinse around in my mouth or throw in my face.  I usually throw up just after crossing the line so anything in my stomach just gets that going a little earlier.  If you are really going hard, there is not a lot of blood circulating around your stomach to absorb anything.

I am about the same as everyone else. I fill one bottle that is up on my aero bars with Cytomax but don't drink much. I also have a gel with about a mile or so left in the bike to keep the energy up. More mental than anything. Nice thing about to much in my water bottle on the bike is its there when I am done I also like a drink after a swim to get the water taste out of my mouth.

I wanna see someone load up on a pre-race beer, have a mixed drink on the bike and finish the run with a glass of wine lol. That'd be VERY entertaining.
