I'd look in cities like Shawnee, Lenexa, Olathe and Overland Park.  I think DeSoto even has places to stay.  I live in Overland Park and will have about a 45 minute drive.

Looked in those places as well, most are sold out or not worth the price.  Good thing I have a tent, air mattress and blankets!!  See everyone there!

I have bugged Reece about splitting a camp/parking site . . . but no response.  ;-)  Might be willing to expand my search if Reece doesn't want to.

Awesome!  I am in for one parking spot.  Still deciding if I am camping overnight.

joncolbybohnsack - 2013-04-19 3:12 PM He seemed to think a lot of the locals are sticking with the KC Tri.  At least that was the word around their store.

I attended the "First-Timer" clinic at Gary Gribbles tonight put on by the KC Tri folks.  They announced there registration numbers are right at about 1,000.

For what it is worth, really good clinic and gave away some really cool good stuff, I came away with a new pair of K-Swiss K-ona shoes :-)

RANT: I know it's just the way it is, but the total lack of information about KS 5i50 drives me nuts.  An email to them, a facebook post and a tweet to them and no response about anything on the race.

Makes my head explode! Yell

How early race day morning do I need to get there if I want to park in the campsite?

I've got a crew of 4+ preview riding the bike route and 1 loop of the run route around 7am Sat. in case anyone wants to join.

To the poster annoyed with not getting a response, I've sent a couple inquiry e-mails and received a response every time in a day or two, so my first 5150 experience has been good thus far.

Well put me down for 1/3 of that spot, it will give my kids a place to hang out while I'm on the bike at least.  They can crash while I get ready for the swim etc.

What spot did you get?  My family will be setting up in CG 3 plot 101.  Looked like it had some nice shade.

Well, I finally heard from someone at Ultramax, and they have heard nothing from the RD.  So at least they know as much as we do!

Due to the weather, we are moving our test ride to 5/11.  Didn't want anyone showing up in the snow pissed .

Just wondering about wave start times, etc.

Nothing too pressing, I'm just a control freak like that.  Assuming similar to KC Tri last year.

For what its worth, a lot of races won't announce wave start time until it gets closer to the race once they have a good grasp on what the head count will be for each age group. I've been to many races and its not known until packet pickup.

I saw the water temp was a nice warm 48*F at Clinton Lake.

What do you think the chances of the RD bagging the swim and having a DU?

Make sure you bring your wetsuit.

Water temps at Escape from Alcatraz were 51 degrees this year...so yikes!

The Clinton Lake Facebook Page said the temp was 55 on the 27th of April. This weather won't help, but it will be okay.
