Anybody got a lead on any good deals on tri or bike jerseys?  I'm good on shorts but last year I only had two tri jerseys and no bike jerseys so one or both were always in the laundry and I rewore them more often than I care to admit...I've added a bike jersey to the fold but I could still use one or two jerseys.  I joined my local tri club and I'm going to get their jersey and probably use that in my race(s) this year.

Mike!! If there's room for another, count me in. Hope all is well!

NAME: Mike

LOCATION: south of Boston, MA

STORY: I was a 43 year old former athlete (HS, college) who spent too much time behind a desk, and on the couch. Found myself as heavy as I've ever been, and so out of shape it was shocking. Having the doctor tell me I was obese was a shock that got me off the couch. Started with some classes at the local Y, watched what I ate, and then discovered triathlon. Was asked to ride the bike leg in a relay of the local sprint in June 2010. It was a struggle (hand't ridden a bike in years and years). Decided there and then I needed to do a race myself. So, I found a sprint race happening 3 months later, and signed up. could not swim or run, but having found BT only 3 days after that first bike, I figured it out, and finished that first race. Hooked!!!

FAMILY STATUS: married for 18 years with 14 yo daughter and 10 yo daughter (who has done 2 tris herself!)

CURRENT TRAINING: limited as I've been on the sidelines due to injury (torn hammy) and illness

THIS YEAR'S RACES: 2013 was a sprint, an oly, and 2 HIMs. also a few road races (HM, couple 10k's, 5ks, etc)

2014 RACES: so far signed up for 1 sprint and 1 HIM. will likely add a couple Oly's, maybe another sprint, and definitely another HIM. 2015 is a full IM

WEIGHTLOSS: lost nearly 60 pounds the first time around. Need to shed about 25-30 as I've put a few back on the past couple months.

Nashbar.com and backcountry.com usually have decent sales going on.

off to get Chinese food, and probably fall asleep by 10 PM

Mike -- loved the blog on the ultra race. What was your average pace per loop? what a cool event. Congrats on the run.

Tomorrow, back on the horse for me. A run, and some bike time.

Pace was just over 12 minute miles for the first six loops and just under 14 for the last loop. The details are here http://connect.garmin.com/activity/420882397. Not sure what my Garmin did on one of the loops with the elevation spike.

Joe.....I'm your Faaattther! And, I liked your homage to the Goonies too.

My wife found this website for cycling jerseys. There may not be anything of interest to you but it could be fun to have a bit of a look through the site:

www.love2pedal.com

I've been considering a "skeleton" jersey from them but not in a hurry to buy anything. I haven't checked yet but there is a website where you can design your own custom jersey and apparently they weren't too pricey either. Unfortunately I inadvertently deleted the website so it may not be easy to find it again.

New people - welcome to the group.

Everyone - Happy New Year. My wife and I always stay up 'til just after midnight so we'll likely do the same again tonight and we're just playing on our laptops as usual.

A bit of excitement for me - Registered today for the Victoria (British Columbia) HIM. I'm now committed to two HIM and later I'll likely add a 3rd. I am a bit worried that 3# HIM in one month intervals may be a bit too much for me to handle. Starting PDQ I better get running to build up my run fitness eh?

Already looking at accommodations in Victoria (its kind of a homecoming for me).

Year end stats - hopefully we can do one last chart for our old group. I'm quite surprised at my stats in 2013 compared to 2012. I swam fewer hours but logged considerably more yardage; my cycling hours and distance were quite a bit higher than 2012 and my running hours were actually down this year but my pace was higher.

I really have to increase my running hours in 2014 - like double this year or more.

Carlo - glad you're back. Sorry you have to work. Hopefully it will be fun and the time will go fast.

Happy New Year and welcome to the new folks. I've done the stats before but figured I'd get a fresh start with the new group. Hopefully Trial_of_Miles will join us. No word yet, but he's about 12 days out from HITS Naples, FL Olympic.

RE: attire: I actually hate swimming in a tri top. As cool as it looks, it constricts my breathing. Wore one my first Sprint and panicked. Wore not top the whole second tri, and liked it. Would not have minded a top on the ride. Was watching some transition videos the other day, and saw some total zip-up tri tops -- they just laid them out on their stuff and put it on quickly in T1. Anyone use those? If so, what are they called? I'd like to see about trying one of those out this season.

Oh man that is awesome, I love those star trek jerseys!  A little more than I'm hoping to spend and they don't have the star trek ones in my size but I'll be keeping an eye on that site, very cool collection.

Thanks for the tip, I was unfamiliar with backcountry.com.  Just bought a couple clearance jerseys there.

I have some zip up cycling jerseys but no zip up tri jerseys. I like swimming in the tri top to help hide my gut :-)

I've never been in water that cold but I would consider two layers where you can plus neoprene gloves and a layer of Vaseline on any exposed skin. Brrrrr!

Welcome Nick! Regarding getting your swimming in, check and see if there is a masters swim group in your area. Are there any tri clubs in your area? If so, they may know of some local pools.

The swim is ALWAYS a cause for concern when it comes to competing in a triathlon. This is the event for which you need to concentrate on RELAXING.
