If any athletes out there need a race buddy or extra motivation/ encouragement to shake off the race jitters let me know. My wife and kids will be there but at a distance. I know I will need the same! |

Veteran 629 Grapevine, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas : Official Thread The one thing I'd say based on last year's experience, if you are not in the early waves....don't put your wetsuit on too early. Also, I think the waves ended up changing last year; can't be sure but I remember thinking going into Galveston my group was further up and ended up in later wave. Best to keep an eye on it. Another reminder from last year - there were wetsuit strippers. Not sure if that's standard, some races I've done do, some don't. |

Veteran 604 Cleburne, Texas | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas : Official Thread I saw that! Good time to get in some long runs/rides and maybe we'll be better acclimated by the 6th. But with the winter we've had there's no telling what it will be like on race day. |

Expert 1323 Rowlett, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas : Official Thread Maybe you can fuel yourself before your workouts a little more to help. Nice job on dropping the weight though. My long run yesterday in the super gusty really blew... It seemed to drain me more than last weekends run but alot of that has to do with me getting in a lot of training the last few weeks. I am no where close to where I wanted to be and slacked horribly this winter. Now just trying to do my best for my last big training week. |

Veteran 629 Grapevine, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas : Official Thread Originally posted by Iron Zen Is anyone else suffering from fatigue? Not muscle soreness just overall fatigue........ I think I've dropped too many lbs. I was thinking about this question this morning. Wtth Training Peaks and a simple heart rate monitor like the Mio Alpha watch you can track your fitness and fatigue levels (assuming you set your thresholds etc.) using the Performance Manager. It assumes you have decent sleep, but has been fairly accurate for me. I attached my recent results. Last fall I was peaking for Ironman 70.3 Miami. Now, I'm working on IMTX with stint at Galveston. The yellow line is relative fatigue. If you are not aware of what TSS is, you can look it up on TP. This chart even shows my bout with H1N1 and later the common cold, when my workouts were sub-par for me... But mainly because I couldn't imagine trying to swim in a full suit, in spite of how mobile they're supposed to be. Wearing a suit in salt water and you should float on top. I'll be in mine! I have both a sleeveless and sleeved Blue Seventy (Helix I think). Will bring both and make a race day decision. |

I plan on getting into it and swimming in the 68 degree Barton Springs pool next week just to get a little acclimated to cold water. |

New user 17 Queen Creek, Arizona | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas : Official Thread That's pretty awesome data! If I could put my finger on my fatigue issue it would probably be lack of sleep and my early morning training session that I've been doing for the last 4 months. Not to mention I work full time, have a wife and two kids....... Why in the hell did I sign up for this Ironman? LOL |

I'm not very buoyant, plus I have heavy legs. I'll be getting in one more long swim with it tomorrow. Having some Velcro strap issues with rubbing, not sure how to remedy it. Any ideas from anyone who may have this same suit? |

Not sure how it would work for a suit but I use Body Glide in many places to keep from chafing. Armpits and nipples especially! I don't know if they'll have run through showers or not after the swim but I can only imagine what 56 on the bike and 13 on the run could do to armpits with dried salt water in them!! You might get some, if you don't already, and test it out. |

Extreme Veteran 1574 | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas : Official Thread Not trying to scare anyone and nothing has been said yet about it causing any problems, but there was a collision in the Ship Channel and over a hundred thousand barrels of oil were spilled in the waters. They have contained the oil from areas that they consider as sensitive but I have not read if Offats Bay and that area have been protected. If it has not been protected there is a chance with the proximity that the oil could make it's way to the swim area and effect things. Fingers crossed that it doesn't. I noted that Ironman does not have anything on their site about it at this point so I'm hoping there will be no effect. |

I am just going along as if everything is still on. If they cancel the swim I will probably just bail on the race and stay home for better training. |
