molto veloce mama 9311 | Subject: RE: tell us something we don't already know there is a big stigma about it...which is insane. if a man never has kids - he's career focused, go-getter. woman = frigid? or something. same goes for being determined and hard working. for a guy, that means his a great guy. if the woman does the same thing = b***h. stupid. i think it is awesome that you can say it...if more women hear that its okay, from strong, confident women like you, they might realize the same thing. i know folks who probably didn't really want kids, and some who never should have had any. takes more caring and thought to NOT become a parent. kwim? anyway...you're awesome. |

Master 2052 Colorado | Subject: RE: tell us something we don't already know I hate fruit. Yes, all fruit. Even as a baby, I would not eat baby food fruit. OJ makes me want to gag -- even just looking at it. I will eat Apple Pie, but only if my mom cooks it and then only if she's watching. I will drink a strawberry margarita, but thats about as close as I go. Yech. My brother's are the same way. No fruit for us. I have a feeling I might work my way into berries, however. I reallly think berries could be a 'gateway' fruit for me. |

Expert 736 Longview, TX | Subject: RE: tell us something we don't already know I feel like I'm pretty open too and not sure what I could think of that people don't already know. Most on hear know that I'm blind in my right eye, but may not know how that happened. It occured at birth. I was born on a Halloween evening and apprently the doctor was not happy about spending his Halloween evening at the hospital. The forceps that normally go back behind the baby's head, he simply put beside my head, forcing pressure on the ocular nerves. It demaged the nerves to my right eye and I have been blind ever since. And yes, my parents did try to sue, but at 18 (they started young) they were kind of railroaded. I still have an eye, it just never really developed, stayed small, etc. I now wear a prosthetic eye that fits over my real eye that I put in every morning and take out every night, very similar to a contact, except much bigger of course. Oh, and it bounces and it drives me crazy when I drop it My prosthetic helps me to look 'normal'. I was teased endlessly as a kid because of my eye (I got my first prosthetic in 3rd grade). Generally people think I just have a lazy eye since it does not have as much movement as my other eye. And contrary to popular belief, my depth perception is just fine, how would I walk around normally otherwise. About the only negatives that I can think of are that I will never be able to see a 3-d movie or those crazy posters, obviously no peripheral vision on that side. I've been this way all my life, it's what I know. |

I have 10k + comic books. 2. I love reading about almost anything. 3. I want to give up surgery and be a science fiction writer. 4. I didn't like Serendipity all that much. One of my first memories from primary school was getting roused from a daydream by the entire class (it took the entire class calling my name to get my attention). I was totally in my own world. It still happens today during meetings when I am not directly affected by the discussion. |

Maybe you don't know that I have a black belt in karate, though I did post that in another thread. Up until about age 30 I always maintained that I would never have children, and I am not going to harp on this because I always hated when people would say "you'll change your mind". What I do want to say (particularly to jeng) is that we ended up adopting and it has been the most incredible experience in our lives. I think a lot of people are scared of the notion of not having a "biological" child, but if people actually realized what an amazing feeling it is, I mean actually being in the moment of meeting your child for the first time, when all the apprehension just melts away - more people would do it. I never thought I would feel so blessed. Good luck in whatever you decide. |

I never thought I would feel so blessed. Good luck in whatever you decide. You're not harping, I've heard it plenty of times too. I do know that I may change my mind and have never felt the need for a biological child. If I do change my mind I would probably adopt. There are many, many children who need loving homes and if I was ready I would open my heart and home to them. I appreciate all the wonderful families who do want their own children and try. The world is about balance. Back to the subject: I've always been interested in the Peace Corps. I wish I had learned more about it in college and gone. Edited by Comet 2006-11-09 11:31 AM |

All that hooker stuff keeps an offset sleeze factor that can redeem the movie for a guy. |

I wish I had learned more about it in college and gone. I attended a Peace Corps recruiting meeting and sat down with a recruiter a few months ago to give this serious consideration. Then I decided that I wasn't able to uproot my life, training, etc and move. But this served as the catalyst for me to start seeking a new career. I wish I was carefree enough to join them! |
